Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Let's enter Karl's memory lane. A while back, July of 2011 to be precise, I mentioned my ideal weapon sandbox. Now things have slightly changed in my mind, but it is relatively the same.

We can compare this to Halo 4's sandbox. The Rockets and laser remain with the same features as Reach and my sandbox. The Focus Rifle is gone. Needler, and Plasma Pistol return. The Brute Shot isn't back, but the Conc Rifle from Reach remains(what a shame). The Plasma Rifle hardly functions like it did in previous games, but functions more like the Repeater from Reach. The best addition to Reach stays with Reach. RIP Pro-Pipe 2010-2012.

Now, where the base weapons come in, it gets interesting. The Shotgun sounds like the Shotgun. The SAW sounds like my AR. The AR sounds like my SMG. The Pistol sounds like mine, but forced into a secondary role. The BR sounds like my BR. The DMR is damn close to my DMR. The Sniper is like the Sniper.

Also, within the same day of my posting that, I got people to post their sniper proficiency in response to Fyrewulff saying that the H3 sniper was easier to use.

Sniper proficiency = Snipe medals / Sniper kills * 100;

Halo 3: 49.57%
Halo Reach: 66.43%
Halo 4: 63.19% (68.99%)*

*Note: I included the Binary Rifle in the first number, but I don't make it my goal to land the headshot with that. So I included just with sniper+beam in parenthesis.

Also, later I called Spec Ops a couple of weeks before David publicly got a promotion to level designer... On Spartan Ops.

What am I getting at? I dunno. Implement things better. It was ultimately Reach's downfall.

If it makes you feel any better I called no less than four new weapons in Halo 4. (Storm Rifle and Railgun for sure, Light Rifle and Scattershot in that they were alternates of existing weapons)

I have not been able to switch loadouts all night without going into the pause menu. Y Button does nothing. Is this a known bug?

Would Carbine being a 5-shot kill be overpowered?
I think it's an 8 shot kill right now, bumped up from the 7 that it was during the E3 builds. So yes, 5sk Carbine would be insane.
Where is the no ranks not wanted coming from though? Halo 2/Halo 3 are highly popular titles with it and Reach died off slowly, and Halo 4 has 180,672 at this current time.

I'm thankful for ranks btw, but if you think hiding it online is stop selling you are crazy. You just made it easier to show and sell online.

By looking at matchmaking of not only Halo 2 and 3, but any game with ranked and social divides, Gears being a good example. Ranked playlists (regardless of if they are copies of the same "social" playlist or specific ranked playlists) will drop populations dramatically and immediately.

It's completely worthless at 8, no decent player is ever going to be killed by it if they're using any of the other weapons. Needs a buff in a bad way. :|

I didn't play the E3 build, but I didn't see anything wrong with it from the footage I saw. The classic H3 beta/Reach beta "everyone bitch insane amounts because the Covy weapons are actually equal in power to the human ones" situation.
 
something definitely needs to be done about the DMR situation. It's boring having one weapon pretty much dominant in all encounters

The problem is the alternative is literally rock paper scissors, having weapons be more useful than others at different ranges means that the game plays out in the menus more than anything.

One utility weapon allows me to have dmr battles all over the map and know I won or lost based on my skill with that weapon. When the BR wins due to mechanics close range that makes those close range battles less interesting.

The weapon profiles are not distinct enough either, usually I can't tell if someone is using a BR or dmr until we start fighting. The weapons need to be visually distinct if you want that rock paper scissors gameplay so that I know to avoid the guy with the BR if I have the Dmr etc

I may just be blind because many times I can't tell what weapon my opponent is using, Railgun has the same blue glow as the storm rifle, AR doesn't stand out and even when shot with it I don't know if its an AR or saw which is shooting me, I could probably list more.

Played a custom game where everyone just had 4sk br's yesterday, loved that setting.

I would prefer other weapons get a slight buff instead of nerfing the DMR. I completely agree that unscoping needs to come back. Flinching just doesn't work to the same degree as unscoping.

Eh. I only really play BTB / CTF and it seems like map movement is hindered enough because of the DMR. I'd only expect it to get worse if every other weapon was buffed to compete.

Someone just melee'd my hardlight shield while they were 1 shot and it killed them. Lolz were had.

Also, hit sprint and jetpack sound came out. lol what.

I spent entire matches putting it up, making people one shot and waiting for it to finish them off.

It never did lol, it felt like I was trying to teach a pet to shoot or something, I pretty much died every time and never got one autos entry kill.

Thing is pretty useless, which is fantastic.

H4 has too many BTB maps. Exile, Longbow, and Meltdown would have been fine. Vortex and Valhalla seem unneccessary, could have replaced them with good 4v4 maps.

Save the gametypes in case something interesting is in them and the playlist disappears :p

It says 0 players. I started a search in it and it started fine, I backed out because I didn't actually want to play it lol.

But now I tried to play BTB Slayer and it was 100% Valhalla 100% of the time, so I'll try it after this game.

Just played FFA Oddball on Abandon. Meh. Total gametype to get in there, get a lot of kills and fuck around. Just as it has always been. King might be better though.

Just played FFA King Abandon. Same rules for Team King applied to FFA. Didn't give you any + white text for kills, your hill points count up in white text as you're in the hill.
