I really enjoyed this week's Spartan Ops. I played Heroic solo and those hunters were pretty punishing. I hope we get more missions like this week's ones.
 
Quick list, no idea if I'll make a bigger one later and I'm likely echoing earlier sentiments from a lot of people here:

Campaign:
It's short, 5 hours or less
No Campaign Theater
Repetitive Firefights
Audio Issues, music sounds very low at times
Campaign is generally: Push button to hold area/to continue to next area, etc
Promethean Kill Order is as follows: Watchers/Crawlers > Knights
Poor Prom. Knight A.I.: They altogether ignore you after a certain distance or forget about you if you go behind cover
Poor Banshee A.I.: Constantly crashes into walls for easy boarding <-I played twice on Legendary and this happened in every level with a Banshee
Covenant on a whole are much easier to kill, examples:
-Elites are dumber/more aggressive in the face of danger and will charge you or stay shooting at you when their shields are down.
-Jackals, due to their new design they're much easier to headshot due to their bigger heads
-Grunts, due to their new design are wide and stick too close to each other which allows for easily wiping out a group with a single grenade, it has also resulted in Grunts shooting each other with the Fuel Rod Cannon.

Multiplayer(without getting into gameplay design aspects or maps):
Frame-drops
Missing Modes
Lack of Customization
Playlist do not inform players what the gametype is about
Lobby UI is non-existent for Party Leader who is left with two giant buttons, PL must refer to Roster List to know who is in the Party
Active Roster is non-existent
Roster List -> Party Details does not display how much time a Friend has left in their game
JIP can throw players into games that are seconds away from finishing
Lag seems to occur fairly often
Killcams not functioning properly
No customizable controls for those who do not like the default set
If Trueskill is actively at work in the game then how does JIP or staying in the lobby after a game affect or factor into this?
XP Cap: Why instill a progression system only to halt a players progress?
No Red X when a teammate dies
No friendly fire
OD's are stupid, they at least need to be tiered to hand out lower end weapons and go up
JIP and quitters, sucks
Nobody wears mics anymore, I remember H3 every lobby was always full of mics. Still more mic'd people playing H3 than H4


Spartan Ops(without getting into assets, gameplay or story):
CG contrast issue when viewing Episodes in-game
Input Lag/Poor Netcode
Cannot play SpOps on Legendary when searching for a game of SpOps

Outsourced Forge: I understand there are a slew of issues with lighting, objects and active Forgers who are disappointed with the selection, please refer to them for a wide and varied insight about the issues with H4 Forge.

Waypoint: Incredibly unfriendly to navigate

Campaign:

If the Covenant are going to stick around in the next games, why not mix it up? I would like to see things like Jackals with Swords darting at me, Elites with Jackal Shields playing up support, suicide grunts with Camo. You get the idea, the list goes on. If this is a splinter faction of the Covenant than why are they playing by the same rules?

MP:

Vehicles: By not having their health linked to player health ala Halo 2 are they turning into support more than offense? Without that health link a few players can turn any vehicle into paper-mache, the only way for a vehicle to survive now is to get in and get out and have a good team providing auxiliary fire.

Even Reach was playable in MLG. Now I can't even watch other people play Halo.

It's pretty bad.

Not going to dispute that the game has some glaring issues (which have been pointed out in great detail on numerous.....numerous occasions especially as of late) that hopefully will be addressed in the coming months. However, plenty of people, including a long time Halo fan such as myself, are still enjoying the hell out of it for many legitimate reasons. I understand the level of frustration that many have experienced but at it's core it's still Halo and from a gameplay standpoint it's infinitely better, even in it's current form, than Reach will ever be.

And if MLG Dallas is any indication, Halo is hardly dead and will thrive competitively within the pro circuit for a long time to come. Hell I had more fun watching out of the box Halo 4 at their last event than I ever did Reach.

So I'm sorry that you and others have had some less than satisfactory experiences with the game (yeah I know....."that's an understatement rofl") but please understand that a significant portion of the community, both casual and competitive alike, don't necessarily share the same views when it pertains to what Halo was, is now or should be in the months/years to come. And we really don't appreciate being disparaged as a result of that fact.

note: That last part is not really aimed at you specifically, just making a general statement about the current dialogue existing within this thread.

This game is awesome. I'm having fun with it anyway.

And I'm not sure if people are being serious asking 343 to ditch some of the major changes they made for their first game here. This was never supposed to be the Halo we knew - it was supposed to be a new take and a new approach.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a gaming DISCUSSION forum.
So, eulogies then? Well, can't say you're not in the right company.

What's the problem with instant respawns? I'm sure there's some purist view on the issue, but come on, I want to play the game, not stare at countdown screen.

It's the next logical step in modern game design. Totally won't ignore map flow.

I wish I was having as much fun as well. (Actually, I am, but that's because I've been playing Skyrim.)

Thing is, the longer I go without playing, the less I feel like I have a Halo itch that needs scratching. Which as clear a signal as can be that I'm moving on from the game, and probably series. Even with Reach, there was something for me to latch onto (dat feedback loop in Firefight/Campaign....). Halo 4 just doesn't have a gameplay hook that draws me back, and I feel like I've gotten about as much out it as I'm going to.

I should never be able to die, respawn, and finish off my own kill before his shields have even started to recharge. Ever. You're talking about a game with a significant recovery time for damaged players, where people can spawn with a weapon that crossmaps with ease. I should never, ever be able to get a double kill, die, respawn, and then get the triple.

Respawn timers help to dictate the pace of the game. It's a drummer in the band, without it you get chaos. Before, he had a drummer pal named Weapon Spawn Timers that chimed in with the triangle a few times per match to help out, but he died. In objective games, where their effect is most obvious, the currently-glitched instant respawns mean that the pace of the match is totally destroyed, you can't get that Overkill, tell your team, and then reliably make a push for the objective because the enemy team you took out are already respawning by the time you tell them.

Funny, Killcams don't bug me at all. Instant respawn doesn't bug me at all.

Ordnance bugs the crap out of me, though
Auto ball/flag pickup bugs me too. In some firefights, you're forced in close for carrier protection. If they die, you should not be penalized by losing your primary and being confused by the harsh auto-transition.

Flinch doesn't bug me, either.

I wonder how many more seconds of fun have been experienced by players, in aggregate, by eliminating respawn times and giving the game back to the players instead of Father Time.

It should be readily apparent to anyone who has played a Halo title why instant spawns could be detrimental to gameplay. Thankfully, Havok outlined the reasons perfectly.

I lost count of the number of times I got revenge with a single DMR headshot.

Positive thoughts time:

Dominion is really good. Really fun mode, one of those things that people probably didn't know they wanted until it showed up kind of things, maps work well with it like Exile and Longbow. Plays kind of like a quasi-RTS. Lots of bells and whistles to play with in Forge (also gave use Turrets.. which is something we've needed for a while now in Forge). It's Objective but doesn't overly beat you over the head with it's Objectiveness. It's easier for newbies to wrap their head around than Invasion.

This gametype should have been more featured and crowed about more, because it's just really well done and fun as hell.


Salty thoughts time:

Spartan Ops finally started picking up, although I'm a bit miffed at where Reach was thrown under the bus in vidocs and interviews for having spaces appear in both MP and campaign, and now 343 does the same thing. Valhalla was neat "oh, the crashed pelican is now part of the canon" but I'm not going to pay for a supposed second season of Spartan Ops if I'm just paying to play my maps or DLC in a different way. Right now it feels like I'm playing someone's custom Forge variant of MP/Campaign spaces, and I wonder why we don't have these tools and why they just didn't keep Firefight alongside Spartan Ops and let us play FF in both Campaign locales and on MP maps (like Gears Horde) because it's clear we're probably going to be visiting Adrift, etc in SPOPSs now, so these spaces have been rigged for AI navigation.. kind of like the annoyance that Crater was in Reach but not in Firefight.

In objective games, sure. I'd definitely agree with you there. As I play a lot of BTB slayer I haven't personally seen this happen.

In a game where it usually takes 7-8 seconds to recover from a fight, respawning instantly and having sprint makes it so you can kill someone and they can kill you before you even have a chance to recover.

In games like CoD, Battlefield and SWAT it's fine because the kill time is the same as the spawn time. If you're paying attention and if you're good, instant spawn doesn't really negatively effect the game but when you've got shields that drastically affect you're ability to fight, instant spawn simply does not belong.

Got a betrayal in flood for killing a spartan as a flood form. Huh?

No Beta required.

Gotta love the number of carry over glitches from Reach

After you have gone through all 130, what will your Title be? The last Specialization, or will it go back to Spartan IV, or can you pick?

If I only had those to chose from, wetwork would clearly win.

The difference operator makes is negligible afaik.

Wetwork makes your footsteps completely silent and makes PV practically useless because you can't be seen through walls (tested).
 
Says 8 completed, dunno if it recorded all of the time, I was definitely connected to Live the whole time.

Also, Oddball & KOTH need respawn times like CTF, c'mon man. Simple stuff.

Oddball and KOTH have never had 10 second respawns in Halo, always been the same as slayer.

That said, they should have 3 second spawns instead of instant.

I swear, the man-cannons on Exile are like vacuum cleaners. If I walk anywhere near them I get sucked into it shot into the middle where 3 guys are waiting to kill me.

Completely agree with everything except the bolded. Dominion is really fun because there are different ways to play it to contribute to the team in a healthy way, but damn do I think it's pretty messy for a first timer who hasn't played that kind of gametype. Invasion was much simpler IMO, both very fun too.

And I especially agree with the underlined because it was shocking to see in a BTS several 343 employees comment on that as if that's what Bungie did with Reach.. basically perpetuating the misconception people have about that in an official video.

In objective games, sure. I'd definitely agree with you there. As I play a lot of BTB slayer I haven't personally seen this happen.

BTB Slayer is the only Playlist I currently find it acceptable and actually kind of necessary as long as the spawn placements are proper.

Trueskill has been very good for me until this game. The only time i've gotten bad teammates and it was not a fun experience. I was also the last kill for the other team (literally got quadruple teamed) so I had to sit through them tea bagging me post game for about 20 seconds and a lot of shit talk.

Removed flinch and added in descoping
Made the strafe on par with Halo CE/2

I would get off BLOPS 2 and never look back; too bad the things I ask for probably won't happen.

I didn't mean 10 second respawns, but there has to be more penalty than there currently is. Too many times I've killed 3-4 of the other team to only have it benefit them because they instantly spawn next to the hill/ball, so stupid.

Can we get a 'Vote to Boot' feature in SpOps matchmaking?
Just quit out of a game, One dude kept splatting me in a ghost, then all 3 joined to griefing me during the mantis segment.


If one dude is splatting the other three, it'd be cool to kick him.
While it wouldn't solve the 3 v 1 grief, it'd be nice to get those pesky "i want to fuck shit up' randoms out of games.

The rooftops on Complex have ramps that go up to them. It's not like it was even an oversight. Someone thought it'd be a good idea to let players up there. LOL

was playing splitscreen swat with my gf. she got a triple kill on haven killing the same player 3 times. oh, instant respawn.

Been playing a lot of Reach. The fact that I am somewhat enjoying it... I feel like my whole life has been a lie. Reach is still fucking terrible, but a million times better than anything in Halo 4.

I have to remind myself after every game of Reach that Halo 4 is out and yet I am sitting here playing Reach instead. Fucking terrible that is has come to this.

I'd go back to Reach myself if I hadn't traded it for Halo 4.

Also, people are climbing on top of Abandon now, as if that map wasn't shitty enough. Top center structure can be scaled with a few jumps.
