Wait, are you talking about a Squad Slayer in Halo 4? Cause it wasn't the fact that Squad was 5v5 that made people like it in Reach. It was the superior settings. In H4, they could:
- Remove camo, jetpack, and PV.
- Static ordnance. No personal ordnance.
- Five second respawn.
- Match teams with teams.
- Perhaps stricter JIP limitations?

Other, more controversial possibilities:
- No DMR or Boltshot.
- Pre-made loadout options. No custom loadouts.

Yeah, I was just asking for a list of what would change that wouldn't make it just 5v5 Slayer Pro. Half of those should be MM wide so I just don't see the point in sending Squad out to die again.

He's still missing the Forge variants in Reach's rotation though.

I still don't consider them actual launch maps anyways. Anyone could have made those instead of Bungie in Forge.

Well, no matter how you slice it, it feels like we've got jack shit in rotation right now. And complex is one of the worst maps ever.

You know if 343 or CA can't make a Far Cry level of map maker I still vote they do a Halo Creators Club thing.

That could also still work with Halo 4 technically but it would take up A LOT of space.

Honestly I wouldn't hold your breathe for logical playlist corrections.

Just everything about them since H3 has just been mind numbingly dumb. Just terrible god awful moves almost all the time.

Hopefully MS is realizing they can't just sit back on gears and halo anymore. Both games are beginning to decline and turn people bitter post release. I'd like to see both franchises reinvigorated next gen. I think GOW judgement is going to be hot garbage. And I would be willing to bet the "annual" version of halo next fall will be forgettable too.

I'd love to play good Halo 4 with classic-ish settings anytime. I'd prefer to play that over 3 and Reach whenever able.

So I played Black Ops on a friend's xbox today. The maps were mostly symmetrical. Also, I noticed that in death match the score goes 1,2,3,4... as it did in classic Halo as opposed to the COD style of 10,20,30,40... that Halo 4 blatantly stole. Does this mean that as COD becomes more like Halo, Halo will become more like Halo?

Loadouts are BR/Pistol and Ar/Pistol; both with 2x Frags, no AA, Shielding and Dexterity mods

Haven has been changed to spawn on the symmetric sides. Added red and blue lights to each side and changed the respawn zones to better reflect symmetric gameplay. ARs, BRs, Plasma Pistols, DMRs, and SAWs are placed around the map. ARs and BRs are on 30s timers, Plasma Pistols 60s, DMR 60s, SAW 90s(1 spare clip and doesn't spawn at start). Grenades, Sticky Dets, and a Shotgun are on Initial Ordnance, and come back at specified intervals. Grenades are on 90s timers, Shotgun and Sticky Dets are on 120s. Personal Ordnance is always DMR in the left, SAW in the right, and Overshield or Speed Boost in the bottom(both on 50%). Melee reduced to 75% to reduce double melee.

Reasoning for changes:
-DMR changed to pickup because of scope and power
-AAs removed; Jetpack is OP, Camo is OP, PV is OP, Hardlight slows gameplay, Regen is useless, Hologram is useless, Sentry is useless, Thruster is fine, but it seems silly without the other AAs
-Shielding because Instant Respawn Still exists
-Dexterity because it speeds up gameplay
-Random ordnance removed because it had the possibilility of over-rewarding a team based on randomness

Sounds dreamy. Sucks that instant respawn can't be turned off, that shield recharge speeds can't be customized (?), and that grenades can only be picked up with resupply.

It is like Halo tried to copy COD but COD has changed. Capturing the COD audience is not what Halo needs to be doing. Halo needs to try to expand it's audience by offering a robust experience. For instance:

  • A good story might bring in RPG, SciFi, and Story fans
  • Competive multiplayer and ranks might bring in Fighting Game, RTS, Counter Strike/Quake/Unreal fans
  • A robust Forge mode might bring in nodders from pc titles
  • Streaming and theater enhancements could bring in the YouTube and Streaming crowd

This is the COD market

COD fans won't change. COD is Old Gold. Halo is Lucky Strike. You can't capture the Old Gold market.

Halo needs to expand it's audience by offering a robust and streamlined experience instead of offering a strange dilution of the Halo and COD formula.

Keep it classic. Add rockets and sniper to the ordnance drops.

Halo 5. Do IT.

Default sprint is great. Playing Halo without sprint hurts me, now. There's less urgency. I want to RUN for cover. It seems silly when someone herpderps around instead of putting their head down and gunning for the nearest corner. It's less "Halo", but I also am of the camp that if you want retro Halo, play retro Halo. It's still there.

There are also more playlists that feature the smaller maps in the game than the BTB ones.
That's the problem. There are 11 playlists currently in the game, 9 of them use the smaller set of maps, only 2 use the large set, yet we have more larger maps and are getting more larger ones in DLC despite desperately needing maps for the majority of the playlists in the game.
No one but Bungie's Reach crew could've made The Cage. It's a fixed point in time and space.

Chris Carney made The Cage, been working on Halo since the dawn of time, and made some of the most popular maps of all time, including Lockout.
 
Guys, let's not get mad at 343 for copying cod and metroid prime, cuts had to be made.

Nice to see some of our seasoned veterans are grilling the staff about it though.

More big maps? Issues aren't something you guys should skirt, stakes are pretty high.

At least they decided to trim the fat out of the playlists.

Protein Vision is overpowered as fuck.

Easier to make maps the larger they get, more room for abstraction and error. Sometimes though this results in POS like Complex, where just one dumb mistake (building 07) has the capacity to ruin the map.



Neither did I. Grifball, some idiot version of Oddball, okay. But taking away the only alternative FFA (which wasn't doing so hot because of no slayer) to replace it with a team version of a widely panned gametype.. Feels like they're fucking with me, this is Squad Slayer-type cut.

"Widely panned." You living in a bubble that is unlike the vast community that is Halo.
