I don't get why people keep saying E3 is for the games, this was about hardware and entertainment? Is that what they promised before this conference? All they said was we'll have a reveal today and explain more at e3. They said a new generation revealed, asked for all of us to send them our favorite gaming moments, took a shot at Sony and said they didn't show the console, ours will be a better reveal, etc.

And at the end, we saw more gameplay videos during the PS4 conference. We heard more about the specs, capabilities, we saw the controller in better detail, and we saw more games from Destiny, to Watch Dogs, to Infamous to that glorious Killzone gameplay.

Half the information we are getting now, is from tweets or off hand remarks during interviews. What kind of reveal was this?

So, with no backwards compatibility, as it stands there will be no Halo games playable on the Xbox One. That seems very bad. I wonder if that means we'll see Halo 5 much sooner than later or Halo 4 will have a Xbox One rerelease, or H2A with H4 multi? There has to be some sort of plan for this. It'd mark the first time since 2001 that Halo couldn't be played on an Xbox console. That's blasphemy.

I want more details about the new xbox live service and some 300,000 servers. Clearly they are running on the back of Azure and MS datacentres but I want specifics! I hope they have games servers and media servers quite separate and task dedicated. Considering approx. 200 countries the world over having 300,000 servers is potentially an insane xbox live service or new media services with local regional servers everywhere. They better not be mixing Office365 or Skype calls in with game servers and resources but I suspect that's where they get to 300,000 servers.

Honestly to me this is the most underrated feature, as Dominos Pizza say...it's a game changer. I hope E3 really brings home the gaming and new xbox live.

In terms of Halo it really seems like they could have made a presentation about the new xbox service and what Halo wants to achieve with it. You don't have to give all your corporate secrets away but get some 343i staff on stage and chat about the next gen development, next gen TV etc. After all MS owns 343i and is their premier studio but they announcement an exclusive Halo TV series? While I'm psyched for a Halo TV series I'm hoping for a new Halo game reveal at E3. Here is their AAA studios they built themselves, has the inside track to all things MS & Xbox as well as the content across the media they're trying to converge with e.g. FuD, Halo 4, TV series, web etc. This studio should have been hitting at least 3 of your major selling points and marketing goals e.g. exclusive TV series (Live TV), Halo games (new XBL) and innovation with Kinect. They missed a golden opportunity if you ask me.

Of course once again xbox and Microsoft remain USA focused and the Live TV isn't even available in Australia at launch and requires a separate device??? WTF! Honestly I'm over this international border deal, if Halo TV series isn't available here what I'm supposed to grey import or watch a compressed pixelated YouTube feed on my massive full HD TV's?

Also if Xbox One is supposed to be this insane media hub and live TV gadget why in the hell didn't they kit it out with more inputs/outputs, picture in picture and all the wonderful home theatre hub-like device features? You need to replace the amp, foxtel boxes, PVR/DVR devices, blu ray players, game console and more. Please don't lose focus on games.

I do really like the Kinect integration with the Live TV but what about all the other services, how do they interact for countries like Australia or Foxtel or web streaming etc? Not having to search for remotes is a great thing, if only they built in some home automation features to, they could sell home automation hardware and integrate it to Kinect all around the house. They could have added multi-room & multi-Kinect for home security, media streaming, home automation, multiple screen output and controller input from multiple rooms. I really think they haven't pushed the envelope for next generation and especially if they're targeting the living room home theatre hubs, they could have really stretched their creative juices but things seems evolutionary rather than revolutionary with Xbox One.

I know this reveal was not targeted at the games side but E3 better bring the AAA-game to the gamers. Further there was nothing about pricing, subscriptions, digital delivery systems (GonD etc). I'll bet they bring in achievements for your movie/TV watching habits.

I simply had to LOL about Spielberg video phoning in his Halo involvement, fuck it I'm Spielberg and I'll just Skype this Xbox One Halo thingy in...classic.

They said today is all about the hardware reveal and our non-gaming side of the console? No, people are just inferring that after the presentation and Microsoft's attempt to put a spin on it.

They said this was the next generation revealed. For the months leading up to it, they shared the past reveal moments, Bill Gates and the OG xbox, reveal of Halo, asked us to share our moments etc. Today was almost everything about the games, and even then, half the information we know now, is coming once the conference was actually done.

I'm reading the indie dev responses to the conference and these quotes stuck out the most.

Which is true. You ask your most loyal fans to tune in, you ask them to share gaming moments, you invite the world's gaming press and bloggers and gamers, and then essentially talk about almost everything but the games.

Imagine a next gen console with all it's switching and multi tasking working across multiple rooms, games, movies, multi-Kinect enabled and home automation too.

1. The presentation opens in a present day home with 3 bedrooms (2 parents & 2 kids).

2. Now the parents want to stream a paid per view movie in their room.

3. The oldest boy wants to play Halo while streaming his in game live tournament play.

4. The youngest girl wants to play Kinectimals or Mario party in her own room.

5. Here is the potential for add-on sales, multitasking and convergence of multiple services all delivered and manage by Xbox One.

6. Now there is a front door bell ring via Kinect/Xbox notifications.

7. Dad switches to the master bedroom TV with a gesture to check the home automation front door live feed to see his mate has dropped by with a 6 pack of beer. Dad opens the front door lock with another gesture and meets his mate in his man cave to watch live sports while comparing fantasy sports results in real time. Dad decides to order a pizza with a gesture and sends a notice to his eldest son on completion of the pizza order with a countdown timer sent to the son's room feed.

8. Mum gestures to switch over and check real time feeds of both children (as a good parent should moderate movies, Internet and games for their children). She then pauses her streaming movie and starts a re-run of Sex and the City while hubby is off with his mate.

9. She issues a 15 minutes shut down warning for her youngest daughter and that room service will automatically shut down from interaction at that specified time.

10. The oldest son has won $100 in his Halo tournament, shares his win and digital trophy online via Facebook, Twitter and thanks his live streaming audience. He schedules a replay save to his mobile phone and shares it with his Dad and friends too.


All of this goes on simultaneously due to the next gen hardware, cloud computing, Kinect multi-room interaction, third party peripherals (Smartglass) and on demand actions of each player/user. They got to show off the console, features included out of the box, up-sells for home automation, multi-sales of Kinect (multi-room), movies streaming, games being played (casual & competitive), they showed real innovation with Kinect and all while not focusing purely on games but providing the core of what each audience/player/user wants from next generation xbox.

Missed opportunity if you ask me, I was expecting big things and I doubt they're really thinking big. It's more of the same from the 360 launch, Xbox power play to take USA cable networks out of the equation.

This. I'm actually liking what I've seen. It's what I was expecting from my next Xbox. I'm excited for the Halo series because Spielberg and I'm hopeful for E3 and maybe even an announcement for a halo title at launch, remake/sequel/whatever I'm a-okay with it. Y'all are over exaggerating on some points. Just wait to see more. E3 will be big this year.

About Halo TV the reveal made it sounds like a Pay per episode show distributed via XBL, Could be interesting but I can see it having a limited budget and mediocre actors. I have no idea who its going to be about. Spartans seems kind of wild for TV. ODST's could work.

if you are using a non owned game and play it offline in case of disconection XBL gives you 10 mins to go online otherwise it shuts down the game.

Hmm, what if Microsoft offered two models of the Xbox One, a home entertainment system model like the one we saw, and a gaming console model, which doesn't have some of the features, like live TV and stuff, but at an extremely competitive price point. That could work well.
