That Halo 2 poster... bring back memories.

A Halo reboot? Sounds nice.

That was a baaad year for games. Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Unreal 2004, Paper Mario, Far Cry, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes...ect.

But I think in terms of pure hype, it was Halo 2 that took the crown. Half-Life 2 didn't seem like it was even real, and MGS3, I thought that jungle setting was still a joke by Kojima until I played it(but I loved it).

True.

Meh, needs more baseball cards
Well looks like everyone hates the baseball cards design.

I like it, and getting to show off your Spartan, the problem becomes that it does all that at the expense of some admittedly less flashy but more useful aspects. Even just flipping the SR and GT placements would have helped. Little things.

X for Roster didn't work, don't try it again.
Out of all the UI issues, this is the one that bothered me the most. The roster NEEDS to be color coded based on peoples' armor color, too. Also, just in general, 343 needs to switch to an all-purpose font that's easier to read, and...

...I feel a UI rant coming on, so I'll just stop now.

Realistically, I imagine that Halo 5's UI will follow the metro layout that a lot of first-party/X1 games have begun to adopt.

See Forza 5:

I say we can expect h5 info next Sunday Night. This is assuming the Seahawks win the Superbowl... Hopefully Frank comes into the thread drunk posting and drops some hints.

But yet the Active Roster from Reach showed off your Spartan better than Halo 4's did. What exactly did Halo 4's add that was beneficial?

Also, I did these a while back. Obviously still a WiP.

Parangosky's involvement never went unnoticed. I just told you it was specifically mentioned. You like many people here don't seem to understand that even if a characters thoughts and actions mirror the author's, they are still only speaking for six or seven voices ina universe of people.

Sorry Fuchsdh, but there's a reason most people walk away with the impression that 343i officially hates Halsey. I'll read Mortal Dictata sometime in the next couple of weeks and let you know if that changes anything in my mind, but for now...

The protagonists that the reader is obviously supposed to be identifying with all think Halsey is bad to varying degrees. There's not really an effective counterargument supporting Halsey presented (that I can remember) to give us the impression it's anything but the intent of the narrative to make the reader think Halsey = bad lady.

Since the books were obviously made with the oversight of 343i, we can only assume that's what they wanted us to think. If they wanted to present it merely as the "perspective of some characters", they obviously failed.

Yeah but that Forza menu is functional and isn't requiring more button presses for stuff that should be accessible without it.

Here's another menu similar to Forza that works fine for the game, AC4:

The issue with a game like Halo is it's very social and party based, so that functionality needs to be brought to the front. That's something that Reach did nearly perfectly and Halo 4 did not do well. (Then of course there's other poor design decisions like sideways text, etc.)

Functional, sure. But it looks awful.

Yeah, FIFA is another example of Metro done correctly:

And as far as Halo, I'd be hard to please I think if they did a metro theme with is (however if they focused on what's important in menus it'd work well...but even without the constraint of conforming to the metro restraint, Halo 4 was pretty bad).

Well the idea is as it's a menu screen that just takes you into different aspects of the game, might has well use the space given to you on the screen.

But the issue with 4's menu UI isn't with a main menu screen, it's with the multiplayer lobby screens, so none of this is actually a very good comparison.

That Forza menu is pretty blah, but I like the AC one.

I dislike baseball cards in multiplayer as much as anybody, but how is the menu in that fanmade video nonfunctional?

You select your mission, skulls, and difficulty, and then start the mission. It would take just as long to navigate those menu items, and isn't any more confusing than 3 or Reach's (meaning, not confusing at all).

I liked it a lot, and I'd be all for Halo One looking like that.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the music. Shit was gorgeous. Maybe not the kind of stuff I'd put in a Halo main menu, but excellent stuff. Then again, Halo 2 and 3's main menu music was similar at a certain point.

It's not a big deal for campaign because the information you need is much less, but for a multiplayer lobby the design choices for the Halo 4 menu's quickly falls apart from a functional perspective as well has being difficult to read/see information on the screen (teams aren't separated clearly, sideways text, can't see who's in your party without pulling up a menu prior to searching, etc)

I freaking love it, even the music. Gives you a chill/clean vibe... awww man.

I think the baseball card format for the players make sense so you can see other player's armor, but pretty much everything else about the UI was bust. Hell, even the baseball card spartans weren't anti-aliased.

I agree, but that's what I was saying: I don't see a problem with it in campaign, so I don't know why people are "rolling their eyes."

In mulitplayer...yeah, no.

Here we go, I like this for multiplayer:

Fuck Metro

Pt4k6I1.jpg

Player card changes based on highlighted player

Who made this? Es perfecto. Like seriously, I would like this.

Though I dislike the voting thing. I like veto better (the only issue with veto is when people veto after the map has taken forever to load. They need to have opening for veto available before the map loads, so we don't have to wait for two whole maps to load for the price of one to play on).

Player card is corny,it doesn't even need to be there. Halo 3 had a way where you click on a persons gamertag and then you can see their stats. That is better.

Switching in and out of menus to view stats is pretty bad. The more stuff you can display in one area the quicker and better it is. I understand what your saying I just don't agree.

But you're probably not going to have totally different UI's for campaign lobby vs multiplayer lobby, so it's got to work well for the more demanding of the two.

Stalker, where'd you find that? I like.

Also, who thought of using "Warden" for "Guardian" because I'm pretty sure an epic soldier type person is a lot cooler than a janitor.

EDIT: Oh, you did. Veranice.

Ehh, if implimented well, I don't think it's a problem. I'll bet somebody could take this awesome picture Stalker posted and make it look very similar and inline with the fanmade trailer.

And damnit Stinkles I hope you're looking at that picture.

Yea i know how they think where less steps will be easier but i just prefer it cleaner and it really isn't bad to just click a GT to see them. The worst part is that the armors are all terrible looking so you are forced to look at them.

I made it. Warden and Guardian are synonymous terms

Arbiter and Zion are cool, since Arbiter means "judge" which sounds cool, and Zion has to do with light and people being of one mind, which works very well -- the former being about the map, and the latter sort of referring to teamwork.

I still think Guardian sounds cooler.

Why do maps have to change name every time they are redone, even if they are exactly the same?

Also Veto over Voting anyday.

*high five*

Just lets not have the map load before we get to vote, so that if we vote to veto we don't have to wait for yet another map to load. I'd rather just load the map I'm going to play.

Either that or just have that "power of the cloud" and dedis load it instantly.

Well, I'm glad Halo isn't likely to use Futura for their menu text.

The counterargument is made pretty often, though most eloquently by Halsey in the Halo 4 prologue (it's worth asking if she actually believes it; she certainly takes some level of pride in the Spartans if not their actual use, but her actions in Ghosts of Onyx are entirely at odds with her original goals.)

It's not rocket science--you either think that the ends justify the means or you don't. As Halo fans it's a lot easier for us to say it does when the laws of plot essentially made the Master Chief the sole reason humanity survived.

Complicated, busy, and wordy. I like Stalker's better.

How is it complicated, busy, or wordy?

Instead of showing everyone's spartan you see details on the game settings. No useless info about how many games the persons played, no giant squares, no sideways names, just useful info that actually pertains to the gametype you're playing.

Stalker's works fine, I just honestly don't care about other people's spartans and stats. Yea I can check their K/D (and their rank maybe) but everything else is pointless to me.
