Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

It did, but these were my picks, some of the most memorable gametypes/matches for me.

Ah. I really don't remember much about playing Halo 2 on Live. I see a image of using a rocket launcher on Sanctuary in my mind... and a snipers match on Tombstone. Nothing else. Now same console split screen FFA slayer (didn't have Live then), that i remember well. Also all sorts of fun "games" we made up as FFA slayer got stale. Racing around Headlong, Hide and Seek on Contaiment...

Banshee has never been balanced IMO, but it was far less of a problem in Halo 3 mostly due to the fact that they gave you Spartan Lasers in Halo 3. They really should have added Lasers into Reach, oh wait.

How was Banshee in Halo 2 MM? OP, UP?

You know what is really peculiar to me?
The Game Informer interviews all happened some time ago, right?

Well... in the Halo 4 GI Coverage Trailer, one of the designers continuously reiterates that the game feels like halo, and that we should trust them.
That implies that 343i believed that a large audience would compare the features discussed to other games based on the information in the article.

So my question is.. why was the information presented in a way that we would compare it to Call of Duty?
If 343i knew people would worry, why wasn't clarification added into the original article?
Why is it being conveyed through a podcast that those who were turned off from the article might not even listen to or even know exists?

Were they blatantly trying to intrigue the Call of Duty fanbase, even at the expense of their own fanbase?

Yes, 3 plots, I only played it on headlong though, was quite rare.

Yeah, and Terminal, I remember now. Pretty rare in the rotation, but I thought that was a decent alternative to the Slayer/CTF/Assault game types. Turf was really good for 3 plots as well.

...

We're gonna get MVP and Headhunter, aren't we?

On par with the H3 Banshee I'd say. I never used it in H2 though, only fell victim to it on occasions.

So, very good if no AA weapons around? Reduced to hiding otherwise?

For Halo 4: How about Halo 3-like Banshee (ie limited to 45 degree angle dives) without Fuel Rod Gun, and if that's too weak, a bit more firepower or armor?

I disagree, every new Halo game gets commentary like that because fans simply don't want their baby fucked with. This seemed especially prevalent in Reach development. They weren't necessarily drawing conclusions that people would think it was a CoD feeling game.

Pretty much. And I don't necessarily think they need to change the Banshee as much as they need to be more conscious of balancing it out with power weapons. Give the damn Banshee something to fear.

Because they're making a demo. :)

Not sure i'd like this approach, unless there is anti-air-only power weapon. You add a power weapon (rocket, laser) to map to fight the Banshee, you screw up ground balance easily.

I think there was a 5 plots variant, called "Landgrab". I think it just depends on the map, cuz I thought 3 plots worked pretty fine on Terminal. Headlong/Containment had Land Grab, I remember.

I thought in Landgrab you couldn't regain lost territories? I remember hating that gametype.

Banshees on Valhalla felt fine, because you had the missile launchers and Splaser in the middle. They felt fine on Sandtrap because of the Splasers too. In fact nothing felt better than Banshee hunting on Sandtrap.

Gah, this was the shit in Halo 3 BTB. 3 plots is fine as it was a bit like Battlefield Conquest. Need Conquest Territories!

Yeah, well, the Splaser just about ruined ground combat on both maps, less so on Valhalla. The laser was an interesting addition but too good in Halo 3. In Reach, it is more or less fine... if the vehicles were worth using (not counting Banshee or Scorpion).

I still don't understand why no beta or demo is planned. So much is changing with this game, and it's not being playtested on the gigantic scale a beta offers? There's so many scenarios that would seem to be hard to get by having only journalists/343/MS people play it. A lot of players do their best to exploit AAs and break the game each match lol. Just look at Living Dead.

Saying this makes me question more than ever how Sword Base got past the first day of the Reach beta.

Strictly a harassment vehicle, primarily because it didn't have the game-breaking Banshee Bomb. That thing is a blight. Even in Halo 3, where it wasn't as offensive, it was still frustrating to be instakilled.

It was only overpowered in one gametype, Rifles on Ascension, because Bungie didn't have the foresight to remove the vehicle in a gametype where the weapons on the map couldn't damage it.

Beta takes a lot of effort to create and slows down development otherwise, at least that's how i understood it. Strong internal testing plus ability to tweak stuff easily in patches (should such be needed) should be enough, IMO.
Besides, we don't want people claiming the Magnum/Plasma Repeater is too good and leading to it being nerfed to a peashooter...

Interesting

Lol. I remember this from our splitscreen games. Well, we didn't play with Rifles only but anyway, the Banshee was a death machine. Honor Rule: No using the Banshee was added at some point i think. Though my friend shot me while i was flying the Banshee from other side of the map with dual pistols once...

Can't cut a map when you only have 7 other unique maps. =\

Oh wait, hasn't Halo 4 been in development for around 3 years? If they don't have the time or resources to do a beta, I wonder how much content they've been packing in there/still plan to pack in...interesting.

Some devs just want to see the world burn.

Not about time or resources, more about whether it is necessary. Sure, an open beta can produce a lot of useful data but you can simply do focus tests internally. Simpler, easier. I think. I'm not an expert on this stuff, just guessing.

I'm hoping that in these playtests 343's doing, they've had people play the game as a jerk lol. Maybe get an objective game going between players that are known for mainly caring about kills, or have people that were notorious for exploiting AA's in Reach go at it. Would go a long way towards balancing. Although I wouldn't guess many devs working there play like that.

I always wonder if a game's devs player only fairly or if they do try to cheat and exploit things as much as possible. Or if they're good, pros in the game or just casual players. You really need all sorts of people to test a game, right?

I would think. Although after the game is considered shippable and as many bugs are removed as possible, I'd get a group to go in and try to just exploit everything. Lord knows Reach needed something like this.

I haven't read the article but my question is:
Did the quotes by 343i employees make it sound like Halo 4 is like CoD? Or did the article by the GameInformer employee give you the impression that Halo 4 is like CoD?

If second, then I'd say that it is GameInformer's fault. GameInformer's main goal is to gather more customers, more sales to GameStop. If the game sounds like CoD, CoD fans are interested and will pre-order it. It's a marketing ploy. To be honest this is a very unlikely theory created by me, so forget it.

Wasn't there some KotH in BtB? 3 Plots?
Only ones I remember were 3 Plots in Containment (the one sitting on the track was hilarious), and some kind of Territories set in Relic and Containment. Also Neutral Flag in Waterworks, and Coag/Containment Gulch Wars. Now we get Heavies. Yeah, you like it.
