What if Forerunner vehicles are just pilotable sentinels? "Scout" forerunner vehicle is a modified basic sentinel, the Strato-Sentinel:

could function as some kind of building killer or anti-air vehicle, Enforcers could be flying tanks, etc. I hope alongside some human mech we get to pilot (or if we get to drive those Mammoth super-elephants) we get some vehicle-based superweapon surprises from the Forerunners too.

reskin the chopper, call it the promethean lawn mower. sit back, relax, and watch the money roll in

That actually reminds me of something I thought of the other day: Engineers made Choppers out of human farm equipment as a peace offering between humans and brutes, and so far we've only seen them reconstruct things in forerunner images or provide close-as-possible enhancements (such as Chief's upgraded shielding from CE > 2).

Now where would they get that design from?

I can't wait to see Forerunner vehicles. My gawd.

Considering the way Forerunner technology morphs snugly into shape, and the Promethean Knight appears to be a vaguely human body wearing some kind of armor, it might be that instead of driving Forerunner Vehicles, you wear them.

You know. Step into some kind of metallic disc encircled by rings of floating forerunner-esque shapes, and they'd all re-assemble around your form, creating a body suit with weaponry attached. Or morphing into the center of a floating craft that other players can jump onto and ride.

Only problem is, Forerunner Armor on a Forge Map is essentially active camouflage. Kinda cheap.

So does HaloGAF think its fair to say (not hyperbole) that 343 was instructed by on-high to merge Halo with COD to the extent that it didn't break the game? Because it sure seems that way.

Forerunner Mech? I'm all for it... :) the concept of forerunner vehicles wrapping around my spartan blew my mind.

Nah, not really. I mean it's just the nature of the beast until something "new" comes along. Halo was "new" and held the crown till COD came. COD will be "king" until something new dethrones it.

Shit happens with everything, look at Everquest. Everything wanted to be the new Everquest until WOW came out, now everything is trying to be WOW. That will continue until there's a "new" MMO.

Someone mind linking that pic of the "artist's rendition" of the trailer monster based on assembled screencaps? If I remember right it looked something like a mechanical Flood Juggernaut.

Also, interesting bit of irony I realized: Halo's taking things from CoD, and CoD's taking things from Halo (all the futuristic stuff, amphibious Elephant equivalent, etc), and now it looks like Halo might actually take back its place on the throne if hype maintains.

I'll see if I can beat you to it then.

same lol... ;)

Haha you probably will :p I was approved ages ago now, I just don't post very often.

Damn all this talk about Forerunner vehicles is gettin' me hyped. Could they introduce multiple new vehicles now that there's a new faction? Or do ye reckon it'll just be one or two like normal?

True, it very well may not, I could just imagine all the grifball people raging up a storm. However they could just go the route of golf club or something :p

I was approved 3 months after you... I just constantly forget that NeoGAF exists and spend my time in other places lol... just about there. ;)

saw this scythe like weapon in the single player demo. looks pretty cool.

Prothean vehicles that assemble themselves sound cool until you're in the enemy base with the flag. As the enemy team closes in, imagine you and your teammate both shuffle into a freshly spawned hog only to have an elaborate 5 second animation play out as you get melted by enemy fire.

To say that is disingenuous. I'm sure 343i took inspirations from other games, it would be silly not to. However, I doubt that their goal or directive was to merge COD with Halo. Sure you can draw some similarities, but at the end of the day everything I played felt like a logical extension of the sandbox I know.
I guess its the combination of introducing personalized loadouts and perks, including individual perks straight out of COD and the naming of Spartan Ops that makes it hard to fathom how we could end up here without specific direction.

That being said, not everyone is going to enjoy this additions. I can say that it seemed to me that the term Infinity Slayer was stressed quite a bit.

I myself really enjoy Infinity Slayer and will play it on a regular basis, but I know I will also want to play a more classic style of Halo. I have no reason to doubt that I won't be able to play classic Halo this fall.
I agree about Infinity Slayer. It works, it's fun, but I would definitely miss classic Slayer. Regicide however is just amazingly fun. Stressful as all hell, but soooooo fun.

When I used a Forerunner weapon I was able to cancel the pickup animation when I fired or reloaded. 343 is obviously aware that practicality comes before spectacle.

Excellent! I was talking to a friend about this earlier and we were hoping that would be the case. Glad to hear it :)

There are similarities in just what you mentioned, but it still plays exactly like Halo. And honestly, the loadouts as they are now are what they SHOULD be. They're customizable things to compliment how you play, instead of being psuedo-classes like they were in Reach.

I wish they'd showcase that belief in their map design.
Uh? I only played 2 out of 3 of the maps shown, and both of them were perfectly fine.

Just wait till the last second to get in so the enemy team gets crushed to death in its assembly.

No, no :lol I think it was Ghaleon or someone that actually hand-drew a pic that roughly pieced together that CSI screencap panorama to show what it might look like.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that these changes ruin the game. For all I know its the best thing ever (I <3 loadouts). But it does make me wonder how some of 343's early meetings went (or hell, even earlier, before Bungie left the campus).

I imagine it was something like "The loadouts in Reach were a nice start, but limiting the players to a few choices at the start of a match seems a bit unfair. Let's flesh that out some and try to balance it ad best we can."

And here we are.
