Halo: Reach Beta Thread

When does the Beta go live for UK peeps?

How can you tell the AA of your enemy? Specifically Armor Lock. I don't like to be surprised.

The only thing I want from this game that wasn't in Halo 3 is the ability to lower in game volume so I can hear the chat.

Edit: seeing the Halo 3 Beta ran for 35 days makes me a sad panda. :(
Whoa. Friend came over, spent an hour, suddenly two more full pages of posts? This thread moves too fast.

All I was gonna say was, it wasn't really 35 days - at least not for mortals. If you got in under the Friends & Family program right when it started, and then stayed in a custom game for 4 days AFTER the Beta officially closed down (but before Bungie turned off the servers completely), you got 32 days. For Crackdown folks who had problems day one and quit when Bungie told them to quit, it was 24 days. The 35 must count the pre-F&F week that some employees had access to.

Massive spoiler.

Take your party to combat and objective-based missions that you select and design. Your rules, your maps, your game.

Holy shit. Unbelievable if true.

Wow, never seen that before. Right, time to give it a read.

Oh, man.

Infection
Forge
Race
Bumper Cars (WTF?)
DogFight (WTF??)
Golf (WTAF???)
Grifball (HOLY SHITE!)
HogPile (LOL!)
Soccer (OMFG!)

OMG YES!

It's kinda lame that you drop the flag when you do an assassination.
You should put the pole in front of their neck and strangle them with it or something. :lol

Am I reading the spoilers right?

Will some armor give you benefits with AA's
If so that would add an interesting layer of depth.

With all they included, they could have included
Chess. Well if what your first spoiler states is true, maybe we could recreate it ourselves?

I think these would be extremely minor passive improvements.

Like certain chest piece would give you a slight speed increase in the banshee for example

If true, I can see bungie really using halo reach as a testing ground for their next big project.
mmorpgfps?!?!?!?1?!

I really hope is true. I would offer sexual services for it to be true. Even if its a minor difference, it would make me incredibly addicted to Reach.

I'm really starting to get the hang of the DMR, I'm learning how to control the shots better and It's just making me love this weapon more and more.

Here's two multikill clips I got with it last night if anyone wants to check them out :D

A bit off the current topic - and I'm sorry if I missed it - but did anyone get the menu music?

That thing is beautiful
Yeah, the music is amazing.

Couple of severe annoyances: Really wish nades would break glass and continue onwards for the destructable shit in Sword Base. Also wish defense could use the flag room lift :/

Thoroughly fixed his post incorrectly. The current melee system is stupid.

Why is it stupid? You hit once to remove shields, and again to kill. Seems to work just fine for me. Maybe there's lag issues? Maybe it's hard to tell if someone has shields down? I'm not sure why it's 'stupid' or 'broken.'

I don't get the melee hate either. Maybe I'm so used to losing 75% of them due to lag, that now I'm actually winning it 75% of the time I don't want to see any flaws. But it just seems more fair to me as it is right now.

I still haven't had a chance to play headhunter yet.

Regarding control setups, I'm wondering which one is the most used (using Recon myself). Would be nice for Bungie to provide some percentages of things like this after the beta's over.

The example they give there is the text from the FJ/Para shoulder pieces, which are in the beta, which I am currently wearing, and they do not give me any benefit. They've said cosmetic only, I believe them.

It's broken because a beatdown's damage doesn't roll over into the base players health even if the player only has a sliver of shields left. There have been plenty of times when I'm shooting someone who has sprint just run up to me, hit me once - at this point it doesn't matter if I hit him because I didn't take down his shields with my gun- then hit me again and I die. If he runs up to me and hits me first, even if I land a punch on him, it won't matter because he'll be able to do his second punch before I'm able to do mine.

Headhunter is quite fun, and I'm not normally a 'Lone Wolves' type of guy. It can be both very frustrating and very rewarding.

I use Bumper Jumper, having recently discovered it in Halo 3. Seems to work really well.

From everyone's impressions, it looks like Reach's netcode crushes Halo 3's but how does it compare to other multiplayer games? Is it the best netcode so far on consoles?

Recon is a dream come true :p

Bolded the important part. He's taking advantage of an armor ability, maybe you should do the same, or adjust your tactics. Shields are totally fine right now, and I take advantage of people's current inability to adapt to it's fullest.

Overlook looks soooooo much better than the other maps, why?
Pretend this is a link to the word "beta" in the dictionary. The game is not finished. Work in progress. All that.

Semi-related; I finally got Bungie Pro, and after a ridiculous amount of time (like 2 hours) the 108k unlock key for it finally downloaded. This was about 4 or 5 hours ago, but I'm still not showing that I have Bungie Pro on bnet or in Reach (didn't check Halo 3). How long does it usually take to show up?

Also anyone have any insight on this? Still showing that I don't have Bungie Pro -_-

I was providing just one specific example. How am I suppose to adjust my tactics if he gets the first punch in, even though I've dealt more damage previously? There's no way I can win at that point if he hits me first.

I have pretty crappy internet (1.5 Mb down, 384 Kb up) and it performs much better than Halo 3 ever did.

Yeah, you could say that.

These spoilers labeled "MASSIVE SPOILER" and "UNBELIEVABLE IF TRUE"...are they multiplayer spoilers or campaign spoilers? If they're multiplayer, then I'd like to know.

When people are bum-rushing me (with or without sprint) and I'm not going to be able to keep distance, I counter rush THEM and usually can get in the first melee, so when they're getting their first melee off I'm already getting my second in. It's not hard, you just need be pro-active and be willing to get the first hit in, instead of being in the mindset that you need to avoid letting them hit you if you're not sure you can keep distance.
