Halo: Reach Beta Thread

It's not in campaign or multiplayer.

1. We knew full well those files would be exposed, just like they were in the Halo 3 beta.
2. lol
Cool. Done are the days of the BR vs AR then!
RIP sweet prince :(

But the Plasma Rifle is still in the game right? Starting to wonder where I heard that.

Dragonball Halo confirmed.

Some people actually thought Battlefield Earth wasn't bad.
Huh? I mean he can have whatever opinion he wants on the game, but he comes over and is ruining my experience by the way he keeps talking shit about it, while I'm trying to enjoy it. It would be nice if he and some more actual friends actually played the game as well. I play system link and stuff with him, his brother, and a few other friends most often, so it would kind of suck if we lost him and his [battle] bro.

Though, iirc, he complained about Halo 3 before it was released too, now it's his love.

So at 00:01 people will be able to download the beta via ODST? Also, what's the time zone? I live in Brazil (-03:00 GMT) and don't want to lose precious minutes.

They haven't said what time it's going up yet.

I love the quick hill movement time on Team Crazy King. Keeps things dynamic instead of holing up in on place for 30-60 seconds at a time. I do think the movement timer shouldn't start until someone steps foot into the hill... sometimes you just make across the map before the damn thing moves on you.

OMG, it's early morning Pacific Time!!

We have one of those situations where people who played tons of the previous game automatically hate the gameplay changes in the sequel, due to them being so familiar to the previous game.

I think people will really warm up to the melee after they get settled in a bit more.

Urk, just wanted to tell you and the other Bungie fellas that this is the best Halo multiplayer ever, I'm sure of it now.
Thanks.

I wouldn't want them in Slayer Pro or whatever, but the most fun I've had so far in the Beta has been with Jetpacks.

Jetpack > Sprint > Camo > Armour Lock

I find Armor Lock extremely useful when defending in CTF.

Alright Bungie, you can keep your silly melee system, but only if you dont touch the grenade damage. I love these things! :lol

Does anyone else think that armor lock should be fire-and-forget. Like, once you opt to use it you're committed for a specific amount of time? That would stop people using it to block every freaking melee attack.

I played Halo 1 against a friend earlier today, and there seemed to be so many things that Reach does that Halo 1 did. Pistol and Shotgun felt about the same, yet I sorely missed Sprint.

Won 15-3 on Blood Gulch 1v1 and 15-11 on Chill Out 1v1, if anyone was wondering.

To be somewhat back on topic, that leaked stuff sounds really cool, but I'm not going to hold my breath until I have everything in my hands.

can they leak Security armor, please?!

Urk is taking names in this thread :lol

Every developer needs an Urk, seriously!

:( Man, all you guys rage quitting and I can't even get in the beta

Fixed for accuracy, terrible map, the only thing that I find it fun on is SWAT, even then though, powerhouse is still much better suited for it.
sword base shits on most halo 3 maps, verticality ftw.

Nope, I can stand verticality if it is 2 or 3 floors, but not when it's like that where the 3 floors or so are equal to about 7 floors in reality. I would swordbase up their as one of the worst Halo maps, right next to isolation, construct, etc...

Linkzg said:
why do people keep voting for SWAT? more Elite Slayer, less SWAT!

Because SWAT is 10x better than Elite Slayer...

Elite Slayer can become non-existent for all I care about.

Both the current beta maps are leagues better than Halo 3 maps.
They are so good... it's like they are from Halo 2.
Only this time you have verticality.
And abilities.
Balanced in a perfect way.

Can't adapt to a new game?
This is one reason I'm not a big fan of the super competive side of Halo, it puts so much pressure on people to maintain their stats, and disallows them to just simply have fun.

Like, people wanting to remove jetpacks. In the arena, sure, but in stuff like Invasion? gtfo, that shit looks so fun.

The verticality of the combat is the ONLY redeeming feature of Swordbase. I love that element and hope it finds some way into the other maps. Powerhouse also has some verticality to it, albeit with a more gradual height incline.

I'm enjoying both maps. Sword Base definately DOES NOT require a jetpack. Granted, a jetpack does make it easier to get around (just like it would in every map) but you can just as easily get around without one. You just have to know the map. Powerhouse is fun, great for sniping with the pistol. :lol

Hey dudes. So I'm not in the beta yet, but I think I have a firm grasp of how the new melee system works. I thought I'd give you guys a hot tip:

If your opponent has 1hp shield, don't punch him. Shoot him, then punch him.

Just spitballing here.

"7 Votes for Elite Slayer, 1 for 1 Flag CTF"

Me: "Hey I bet I know who that one vote is!"

:lol :lol :lol

Or doesnt want to play an unfinished game with clear balancing issues and one terrible map?

We all knew this was a beta and would have problems, its not like anyone here is handing in their Halo fan or 'skillz' card just cause they dont care to deal with all the game design brain cramps that Bungie has yet to work out.

Reach is well on track to being a great game. But its definitely not there yet. Hence the warning at the beginning saying 'This is not a finished game!'

You better believe it, though I didn't do too bad with it, but man did I completely own when we played SWAT today, the one game I went 25-6, crazy fun.

That's not the problem. The problem is this:

I see someone running, so I get the jump on him and start unloading bullets into his body. He turns around and instead of shooting at me, runs up and punches me. My shields are gone.

I punch him back because shooting will take too long to kill him and it's my only choice.

The death comes down to whoever can unload the second punch, and it's always the guy who throws the first punch who wins despite me shooting him for 5+ seconds.

meh console gamers... :lol imo more verticality in halo is good.

btw isolation is shit, construct has its redeemable qualities

agreed Sword Base works great with sprint, it may not be the prettiest map but I <3 it.

The biggest flaw of Sword Base, IMO, is not using the gravity lift to jump straight to the flag capture point. It's how ridiculously easy it is for the attackers to reach the flag before the defenders. If I'm a defender and I don't pick sprint as my AA, it's guaranteed I'll be met with at least three grenades coming out of the choke in the flag room. If I sprint, I can make it to dodge them just in time, only to face four on however many of us went with the sprint ability.

The only other option is to go around, but that just concedes the flag to them, in which case you have to deal with them slowly creeping the flag to the gravity life as you kill them over and over and over and over....

EDIT: Post #11700 bitches!

If you could direct me to the indicator that displays the exact hp left in the opponent's shields so that I could make a precise judgment about when to melee the guy, I would be most appreciative.

Agree even though i find the Jetpack worthless :D

IMO Armor Lock > Sprint> Camo then jet pack. But thats just based on my playstyle which is run into a fire fight and draw attention, pop armor lock and watch my team kill everyone else LOL

Fine enough, at least let the game end and then never play the beta again if you want, just don't "ragequit" the game.
In a beta.
A beta where you had VIP access.
Seriously.

I'm speaking generally here, mind you.

Please list the "clear balancing issues" now.
Also, there are no terrible maps, terrible maps are stuff like Construct, but that's an opinion so...
