Here's a secret:godhandiscen said:Also, I never had to guess how much shield a person had left. I only had to worry that my melee attack carried enough momentum. Now, even if I fall with the might of god on someone's head I only reduced his shield. Before, I could count on that momentum to add to my melee strenght and kill my oponent.

K2Valor said:That's not the problem. The problem is this:
I see someone running, so I get the jump on him and start unloading bullets into his body. He turns around and instead of shooting at me, runs up and punches me. My shields are gone.
I punch him back because shooting will take too long to kill him and it's my only choice.
The death comes down to whoever can unload the second punch, and it's always the guy who throws the first punch who wins despite me shooting him for 5+ seconds.
Play Halo CE again and tell me how the melee hasn't changed over the years. Or Halo 2 pre-patch (jumping melee forever). The system has been retooled through every version and it's obvious 3's isn't the final "THAT'S IT!" I'm sure Reach's won't be but I think the idea is that Bungie wants everything to be usable instead of what happened in 3, 2, and CE. Radar Jammers, spikers, lol!godhandiscen said:You cannot tell if the shield is fully discharged. That's impossible. I often feel myself second guessing wheter Is hould melee or not. This is a drastic change from the old Halo gameplay to which Bungie got us used to for 10 years. Backing up and not going for the melee is the obvious solution, but then it just doesn't play like Halo. Is this meant to be an improvement? Is Bungie suggesting that the trifecta they backed up for 10 years isn't fun anymore? I still fail to see how changing a system that just worked and was incredibly satisfying is an improvement. If the improvement is there, then I will obviously need to play for hours (far more time than the beta period will allow me) before I come to this sudden revelation, but I wish somebody poured some reasoning to back up this improvement, then maybe it would be easy to understand why such a drastic change.
"Everybody does" ? Everybody enjoys the change? Is that really the reaction of the majority?
Then don't get in melee range! You guys aren't changing your playstyle despite it not working. Just keep shooting him at the initial distance, create a gap, keep the high ground you created for yourself. You don't charge the hammer guy for Christ's sake, don't get as close as possible to the guy you're trying to shoot.FunkyMunkey said:This.
Melee is BROKEN. It doesn't make sense the way it currently is, at all.

See how one flickers with electricity, while the other doesn't? Additionally, there is a bursting effect when a shield is popped, which is a good indication of when to melee.

Absolutely. I don't know what the numbers are for sure, but it feels like you can more easily get kills through team-shooting with the Needle Rifle than the DMR. It's the main reason I prefer Covy Slayer to Slayer Pro at the moment.Dax01 said:So, yeah... Nerfle>DMR.

I will grant you that just because I rack up a bunch of those during a game of oddball where I'm in last place, I shouldn't be ranking up ahead of the person that finished first as those don't reflect my 'true skill' in the game of oddball...
But how do those work?TommyT said:For people that are having a hard time with the credit system... if you notice, a bulk of your credits come from commendations. So get a lot of them and you get lots of credits.

TommyT said:When you see them turn around to hit you, how about you run backwards still pumping bullets into them? If they never get the first melee off on you then you still have the advantage. It isn't Bungie's fault you kept running AT him when he turned around to punch you in the face. :lol

Yes, I think that's confirmed.thetrin said:Hit Sgt last night. Quite enjoying the armory items. I can't wait to see all of what the game offers.
Is there a chance there will be Elite armor to buy as well?
When I am spraying somebody with the AR, he starts glowing, because his shields are taking the shots right? I might need to double check that.Kapura said:Um, what?

I still don't have the headshot one even if I obviously got 1+ headshots in some matches.

You're not always going to have sprint on you._Bro said:Then sprint past him.
Pro tip: Conserve sprint by jumping and tapping back on your movement stick. Pulls out your weapon so you can shoot while soaring.

There's just no arguing with you. "Melees are hard to use" Then back up. "But what if he sprints?" Then use armour lock. "What if I dun wanna?" Well, I guess you're fucked. Have a nice day.Gui_PT said:Really? Sprint past him? I can't really maneuver a lot while sprinting, so i'm sure he can block me off. Especially in corridors
So, while playing in gametypes where jetpack or camo are 100 times more useful, I have to limit myself to the armor lock just because the melee system is broken?
Yeah, that's just great

Buy them in whichever order you want, you just need to have a certain Rank to buy some of them.Sean P. said:So do you need to buy helmet upgrades in order? Or can I buy the base police helmet and then the super expensive one?

All I'm doing is trying to prove that in most cases, if you meet someone with sprint that just wants to go into a melee fight, it's really unfair and annoying.
PS: I don't think melee is hard to use
It's not unfair at all! You had equal opportunity to turn into a sprinting pummel powerhouse, but you picked something else. One does better in certain situations, which is the core to balanced gameplay. Whatever you pick, work yourself into situations where it is the right ability to have.Gui_PT said:That's my life =(

Doesn't mean I lose all my melee encounters. Actually, I say I'd win 90% of them or more. But I can still see the the melee is broken
