Halo: Reach Beta Thread

best 3 matches, have a 4th good game and the lowest top 3 game is replaced, but some bad games can also knock a few points off also. Something like that.

Anywho the glitch was this. The host changed in the middle of a match, when the match started up again, I couldn't use my armor ability. The icon wasn't even in the HUD. When I died, it came back.

Something similar to this happened to a friend of mine earlier. The host quit and when we reconnected his shield wouldn't recharge. I can't remember if he got a health pack and it fixed it or if he just died and then had a full shield when he spawned.

Visual Flair in Halo: Reach (retail).
Also, Bungie still hasn't decided what visual flair they will give. it's not going to be new armor.

You can also get a Reach Beta code from MS but that's rare.

How rare? Because my cousin just got 400 ms points from ms. Should he receive a beta code too? I told him to look in the email but he couldn't find it.

Yea check my post above too. I also had the same thing happen. I just now got my code. He might get his late too.

Grenades don't need a damage tweak, so much as they need a longer fuse. Besides the uber pistol as a counter in CE, dem nades also had to come to a stop, then take a full beat. In reach the fuse is shorter and it starts on the first hop. If they aren't going to weaken nades they need to make them easier to dodge.

So anyone involved in making the HaloGAF Halo 3 Montage interested in doing a Reach Beta montage? I just finally watched our Halo 3 montage on Halo Waypoint today and thought it was pretty damn cool. And would it be possible to do a Reach montage with the stuff that we have access to know? Like the Bungie.net stuff?
 
Has anyone else noticed the controller vibrate when reloading?

Is it supposed to do that?

I keep thinking I'm getting shot while reloading and spaz out :lol

He should if those points were for Halo 2, but unfortunately it's not a sure thing; if he didn't already get a mail saying he will get a code, he won't in the future.
I want those points, too.
But Microsoft hates me.

After playing this for a few hours yesterday by myself and a few today with a friend I must say that this has been a big disappointment. I actually prefer Halo 3 over this.

I know its a beta and all but the grenade damage is bananas. A fight usually starts with the opponent tossing in 2 nades and me backing off with a pistol or dmr ready to shoot but I cant! They'll toss the grenades and run away. Another sweet strategy I've found is people using sprint and the brute hammer. Why is the hammer in this game anyway, retcon? No worries, I simply walk backwards and pop them in the head before they get close enough. Still, it gets annoying.

I don't even want to talk about the covenant sniper. I know it was inspired from quake / UT so why not imitate it perfectly? Have the trail move around and FFS take off the damn SCOPE!

Tell me I'm not alone gaf.

And guess what, the indicator indicating YOUR base is ALWAYS blue ;)

Calm down man.:lol Apparently that's the line of thinking at Bungie as well. I wouldn't call myself "broken". I think it's a preference. I really couldn't imagine having to think every game "what color am I?" playing two games of Stockpile in a row, play the first as blue and be taking things to a blue flag while then the next game it's red and I'm in the mode to take things to the blue flag from the last game. You'll get used to taking it to the blue flag every game. It's pretty straight forward. If you can't get used to that then...I don't know. I'm not saying it's the "right" way but I think it's the more straight forward way. It's not that hard to remember..."I need to take the flag to the blue indicator" every single game for the rest of my Reach career.

i suggest they increase strafe speed

That would cause even MORE confusion . As it is now, YOUR BASE IS ALWAYS BLUE. Period.

Your teams indicator is always blue. The enemies is always red. It's not opposite, its a decision to make the ui consistent from game to game, at the cost of being inconsistent in the current game.

I'd prefer the Hud icons for "mine" and "other" be colors not used in MM that would reduce it.

Just some quick impressions before i go off to bed:

I've put roughly 3hrs into the beta so far (i can only play at most 2hrs a day due to issues with my hands), and i'm liking it a lot atm.

After around 10 matches yesterday my impression was that it seemed cool, but also that it felt quite different to 3. After playing some more tonight however, i am really enjoying it :D

<3 the Magnum. I am sometimes guilty of trying to spam it too quickly in close quarters, but on the whole i am doing well with this gun, i always switch to it at spawn if i can, and so far i'm finding it to be my go to weapon.

I also really like the needler, this thing is beastly now! I think it does possibly take more needles to kill, but the tracking seems to have been drastically increased, and i am now getting kills with it far more consistently than i ever did in 3. I always switch out my AR for this if i come across it.

I can not get used to using AL, i always forget to enable it in situations where doing so would probably have saved my life :lol

Sprint is nice, and i've hardly touched Camo or Jetpack so far.

As most people have said, grenades are OP as they are currently.

I haven't used the DMR that much yet, which has surprised me, but i like what i've seen of it so far. Strangely enough though, i miss firing the BR, which i didn't think i would be saying now. It felt so nice to fire and i loved the sound of the burst fire, even if the random spread did drive me crazy. I think the combination of this + the Magnum will prove to be a good replacement for the BR in the end though, it feels better balanced this way IMO.

My friend who was meant to be buying this to play with me has not done so yet, so i'm just lone wolfing it at the moment :lol

That's about it for now, i can't wait to play some more tomorrow :D
 
Well my first daily Arena rating is 1616....I can live with that. I am really starting to enjoy this game. Most of the stuff I hated when i started last week (Swordbase, Pistol, DMR) I am now really getting the hang of and I absolutely love it! :D Sprint is the best AA by far! Couple it with a shotgun, hammer, or sword and you become a god amongst mortals. It is also a life saver against snipers. Like so: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=228741

I keep ranking in the upper 1500's.

Completely agree about Slayer Pro. I try to implore everyone in the party to vote for it.
 
I should always appear to be on blue team. That way I always know to shoot red team. (And, of course, on their box, they think they are blue team and my team is red team). My flag should _always_ be blue. Etc. Otherwise we might get confused switching gametypes... like now.
 
A lot of my buddies have mixed feelings about this game. I love it. I've convereted a few to the Church of Covy Slayer and it's glory. Stockpile is a cluster fuck, but in a good way.

1 Flag CTF on Sword Base is brutal. Air lifts are blocked/ shut off. In other words, you gotta haul the damn flag by foot all the way to the top. Ugh.

On Powerhouse, playing on defense, get the rockets and head back to the flag. Make sure those guarding it have armor lock. Others should pick off people outside and pick up hammer/ grenade launcher/ focus rifle.

Offense, someone should sprint to the Focus Rifle and get it before defense does. Don't bother going up the stairs, you're screwed. Go back and go to the flag room through the upstairs entrance. Your teammates should flank from the other sides (invis will confuse those protecting the flag inside)
