Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Loving the beta so far, I loved using the pistol in ODST but man this new pistol is a beast, finally a magnum with some real firepower.

The only gun I don't like is the covenant sniper rifle it is really powerful and too easy to pull off kills with it seeing as you don't really have to aim just hold down to make the other guy die. Also not looking forward to the Jackal sniping missions in single player if they're going to be using them.

One of my main gripes though is that the team based games are limited to 4v4 at the moment which means if you have one or two awful players with you then you're bound to lose, same goes with quitters.

Fuck me that is well good. Consider your editing skills brushed mate!

Thanks a lot. :D

I'm going to get around making another video. I'll pretty it up with graphics and throw some more camera angles. I didn't really have time to give this one the full treatment.

I don't like the style of "hey here is a song from this band with all this singing." Anyone have recommendations for good instrumental tracks? PM me if you do :)

You guys are right that this might be a bit too epic of a song.

Thanks for the feedback.

Quick question, Does anyone know if I can play the Beta off of one disk with multiple XBL gold gamertags on the same Xbox.

For instance, Can gamertag1 start ODST, download beta, play beta, quit beta and then gamertag 2 start ODST and play beta Seperately?

My only issue with the grenades is that they sound like they blow your head off whether your sitting right on top of them or just inside their blast radius. I'd be nice to be able to indicate how much damage they have done without panicking and having to check your health bar.

Can someone tell me the name this helmet?

My rating for the day: 1701. Yeah! Had one game of 1719 points, helped a lot. Got my first extermination too. Overall I'm starting to like Arena more and more. And the game overall.

Name of the helmet is "Military Police".

Indeed it does.
o u.

[edit] You know what, I think I know the problem. People always seem to drop nades when they die, so they always kill you if you fight anyone hand to hand.

Totally agree, the ear ringing should be toned down a little when you only take a small impact. Every time you get the slightest hit it sounds like your head is being blown off at the moment.

Ghaleon, I haven't read much of this thread because its going so fast, but I saw that your first impressions of the game were quite negative. How are you feeling about it after playing a lot more?

He canceled his preorder and bought a Dreamcast. Might have mailed anthrax to Bungie.

Ghaleon, Day 1: Fuck these guns. Weaksauce. Grenades am overpowered.

Ghaleon, Day 2: Except for the AR, and the Plasma Repeater, and the Bacon Wave, and the Nerfle.

Ghaleon Day 3: Okay, that DMR does some sick shit.

Ghaleon, Day 4: Grenades are the same as Halo 3.

Ghaleon, Day 5: The pistol...it speaks to me...

You are at day one. Strap in.

Yep.

I've used my USB to copy the BETA to my other boxes, and used the same disc on multiple consoles with my other Live accounts.

The sound design in this game is phenomenal, particularly for the explosions. I almost want grenades to detonate right next to my face because it sounds so damn cool.

Current needler seems off, I agree.

Inconsistent too.

The old needler was almost as reliable as the Halo CE pistol.
this man knows his needlers

Reach's needlers feel like they have a stronger emphasis on individual needle damage rather than just spewing needles for a quick supercombo. This is silly - more combos, less needles!

In Halo 1 you could get 3 supercombos on one guy with a full clip, and it was just wonderful.

Well you might think you do, but you don't. A single frag will not kill you in Reach if you have full shields and health. Matter of fact, a second frag won't kill you either if you've let your shields fully recharge. It takes three, all told.

Of course, if the other player follows up with some clean up shots or you don't have full shields, the story is a bit different.

WHAT? I've been killed by more frags than I can count with full shields, as long as I don't have full health. That NEVER happened in H2/H3 (H1 I can't remember). They wouldn't be OPed if the other weapons were a bit more powerful (DMR/Pistol 4SKs) IMO.

^If they are that powerful then make less of them available. Even if they aren't, the fact that everyone is complaining about them says something. It could be just the way Reach has changed from Halo 3 that they seem stronger sure, but change them to fit in. It's a beta to help make the game better, if the majority of players have problems with how something plays out, it should at least be considered for change.

I don't know, I feel like I'm being killed far more often by nades then in Halo 3.

THIS ISN'T HALO 3.

It's a new game. In Halo: Reach, grenades kill faster. Reach is a different pace, because IT'S NOT HALO 3. Adjust to the new pace, or PLAY HALO 3.

Sorry, but that's what people told me to do when I vented about how much I hated aspects of Halo 2 and 3 in relation to Halo 1 (and that's what I did).

And who are these nebulous entities you label as "everyone"? Can't be everyone in this thread, or everyone on Bungie.net. You must mean some perceived, vocal majority. A lot of people like the change. How about you actually give the game some time to come into its own, before you start arbitrarily drafting the masses to your cause.

In Halo 1 a single grenade would leave a completely healthy player with no shields and yellow (2 blocks) of health. Essentially, if you had any damage to your health a single grenade would kill you.

Well no shit, you got me buddy. I suggest one thing and one thing only for the beta to final game and you tell me to go back and play Halo 3? :lol Grenades have been the only thing I'm debating here. I'm giving my feedback on my experience.

Glad everyone doesn't take such a sad approach to beta testing :lol. "HEY GUYS! Stop complaining about Bungie's baby! When they ask for beta related feedback, they only want compliments. Don't complain about things that make the game less fun because it's a different game and supposed to be like that!". Hahaha no.

How about most of the random people I play with? Almost all the complaints have been grenades and DMR bloom (in swat games, headshots being extremely fickle). You can only hear "WTF that's bullshit!" when people are naded into the heavens from 20 feet away so many times before it starts to click. Especially when it already vibes with your own opinion.

I'm pretty sure that's called confirmation bias.

(Both good and bad feedback are valuable, yes, but either side insisting they're right is what's getting annoying!)

Use it as an ambush weapon. By the time the enemy even knows that there is someone shooting a needler at him, it's too late.

Then it happens 20 per match and becomes extremely annoying.

omg did I just shoot someone's nade as it was thrown? yes I did, was he throwing it while using a jet pack? yes he was, did he die? hell yeah!

Best shot ever.

B.net Thread for this. I don't know if I should report this as a Bug in the Feedback Section, as it is a Feature Request... 'Other Players in Party' menu for Active Roster

A couple other GAFers and I (some of which seen in my Screenshots) have been realizing a Feature that is in the Matchmaking Lobby is missing from the Active Roster... I know, sounds crazy right? At first we thought it was a bug or missing feature because of the game's incomplete "beta" status.

But when it's usefulness is higher being located in Active Roster vs Matchmaking Lobby, you can see why we'd like to ask about this before it becomes too late not to add it in for release.Would put us at ease if we could get a solid answer from Bungie on this!:D

tl;dr = Pics Below:

Please forgive the screenshot quality, my CRT/camera sucks Brute Balls. :lol
