Halo: Reach Beta Thread

So hyped for invasion. So. So. Hyped.

I GET MY SPLASER BACK :D

Has there been any mention about any nerfing of the Splaser? I think it's fine, but a lot of people were moaning about it.

Also, I'm intrigued to see how unbalanced the Plasma Launcher will seem against vehicles... Especially with the amount of ammo it has.

I'm starting to get decent at this game(kind of). I just went 20 and 4 on an arena match. I think that's the best I've ever done in Halo :lol. I'm really going to miss the game when the beta ends.

If all games count towards your arena division, not just your top 3, then what's the point in a daily rating?
You need three to qualify for a divisional placement at all: they're evidence of your commitment to playing in an individual season. Otherwise, they give an indication of your best form in a given 24 hour period.

Sitting in a pre game lobby anxiously awaiting for Arena to go live!

We still need three more (well two, once Dax gets out of his game)

Joiiiin
I just sent you a FR. I'll be on in, like, 5 minutes.

But I am surprised that I'm not judged solely by my top 3 games ( daily rating ). I guess that even the games were I get steamrolled by 4 guys in a party, and half my team leaves, are also used to figure out what division I'm in huh?
That's basically my entire problem with Arena. It is set up to look like you're only judged by your top three games, but it also throws in games where the other 3 folk on your team leave and you're fucked over. If every game reflected in your daily score, there wouldn't be this problem.

Quitters would still be a problem, until they punish/correct this. The problem it would solve is the thinking that only your best three matter, so the matches where you get screwed over aren't that bad.

so I just thought this: division ranking puts you where you would have been in halo 3 minus the second digit.

Steel = Div 1= 10s = 10-19
bronze = Div 2 =20s = 20-29
silver = Div 3 = 30s = 30-39
gold = Div 4 = 40s = 40-49
onyx = Div 5 = 50+

how is that holding up for everyone else? I was a 24-30 in halo 3 and now I'm division 2.

I really hope we see some good symmetrical maps like The Pit or partially symmetrical maps like Valhalla in the final game.

Playing the Beta has reminded me how much better two flag CTF is better than one flag CTF. Also, speaking about Valhalla, Reach NEEDS to have a map similar to Valhalla/Coag/Blood Gulch - a big, open green map with blue skies that can facilitate a host of gametypes - it's like a Halo signature and the Beta really has me interested to see the fourth iteration on the concept.

They do, we get to play Generator Defense on it next Friday.

Still don't get the point of a day rating. If the overall Arena rank takes every game into account, why not have the daily rating re-average after every game once you've done 3 for the day? It would be less confusing.

It's to stop the rank 50 thing from Halo 3. Instead of showing that next to your name, it shows something that's a lot more easy to change, and always reflects your current performance. You're also harder to boost to Oynx this way, and the new trueskill sounds like it makes you derank faster.

How would displaying the updated daily average - which you could calculate on your own if you wanted and is taken into account in the divisioning anyway - lead to boosting? It would just be a more accurate reflection of what's being taken into account, and anything you could do to boost to Onyx you could do with it only displaying your top three.

Doesn't it also keep you from seeing incredibly wacky TrueSkill variances caused by having zero games played, as well as prevent you from, before you have a division, getting stuck playing against really good people and getting pounded straight into Steel before you have a chance to prove you should be in, say, Gold?

Daily Rating also is kind of like a high score thing. I can see myself not caring so much about my overall performance, but just trying to get a higher daily rating than the day before.

Held up for me yesterday, got into gold division, I was rank 42 in halo 3. Today, not so much :lol

Nope, nothing is wrong.

Provisional Division assignments, like the ones you received, are derived from qualifying population. At some point you were Gold among those who'd qualified. Now, as more people have qualified you've moved back.

Among your 1550 or whatever yesterday, you probably laid a few eggs, those games counted, too.

Additionally, your daily rating doesn't take into account the quality of opponents (the formula is on bungie.net there's no value for 'Am I playing Steel or Onyx dudes'). So even in Steel - guys are going to have big games and put up 1700s - and that's good.

A high Day Rating is like being a great minor league pitcher, your Mom is proud, but you aren't on SportsCenter.

Hmm, I quite enjoyed the "I can only do better, and my rating can't go down" impression I had before. Now that every game matters, it kind of makes it a bit more stressful. I had 3 days of 1600s, but only a few games per day above 1600 thus I am a 2, bronze. Wonder what Onyx takes...

Shishka this is your fault.

Why did we join Invasion as a group of six but get split onto different teams?

I am an Elite while others are Spartans...

Yeah i didn't really get that?
I went in with 2 other people and we all got split.

This is so ironic right now I don't know what to do with myself. Leave it to Shishka to completely ruin what could has been called "THE BEST THING EVER."

Don't you people work or go to school or something?
