Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Has anyone else noticed that the Plasma Pistol can actually kill people like it did in Halo CE?
In the first game you could actually use it as a last resort to fall back on in a pinch.

Seems like 1 overcharged shot and 6 quick shots does the trick perfectly, seems really quick aswell.

Hm? If you fire and then pause, you can't instantly start firing again. There is a little bit of a delay inbetween firings so you can't just pellet them with microwave beams to death.
Certainly not recommended, but it's worked a couple of times for me. First time I did it was totally on accident (controller slipped out of my hands), but I had to try it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Works for taking out an unshielded opponent (headshot) at range; barely uses any ammo.

My KD spread as it goes from the first 18 games where my roomates played, to the last 7 games where I played.

Don't know what the hell happened during a few of those games...

Edit: Flip the switch! Bring on the Invasion

We should try and get a party of six together before Invasion goes live... I have two right now... Add me if you'd like to play

Don't worry about it, nobody has asked that question in this thread. You're the first one.

You could of been nice like Ghaleon and answered the question. Helps those of us who don't follow the thread regularly.

About an hour.

By striking coincidence, I'm leaving work and heading home in an hour.

Thank you for the awesome OP that almost no one reads, btw, and for keeping it updated with just this sort of information

Click here. Bookmark it. It keeps getting updated. It's super awesome.

(I understand having trouble following the thread, as I'm only able to check it once or twice a day (and that's only because I'm on vacation), but Ghaleon has done a great job keeping that kind of info in the OP).

I went from Gold to Steel overnight (which is not as surprising as me getting into Gold in the first place). It was nice while it lasted.

Can't wait for Invasion....

Some screenshots for the hell of it:

Really looking forward to Invasion; Powerhouse and Sword Base have got a bit stale.

Same. I really want to try vehicles out too!

I also want to see Bungie's take on a more objective gametype like BF: BC2's rush, or KZ2's Warzone. Let's see how the moving objectives work on this game.

I havent played the Beta enough for them to get stale, I must be the only one who actually really likes Sword Base. :lol

Im looking forward to some Vehicular carnage though, will be nice to see how those play.

I really just can't wait to see how armor lock works with vehicles, going to be crazy :lol

Yeah they really have especially Sword Base, not that either is a bad map but just it's always the same gametypes on those maps, it seems to be stockpile or 1 flag ctf with the occasional slayer but I can't wait for Invasion that will be great.

I really hope we see some good symmetrical maps like The Pit or partially symmetrical maps like Valhalla in the final game.

Playing the Beta has reminded me how much better two flag CTF is better than one flag CTF. Also, speaking about Valhalla, Reach NEEDS to have a map similar to Valhalla/Coag/Blood Gulch - a big, open green map with blue skies that can facilitate a host of gametypes - it's like a Halo signature and the Beta really has me interested to see the fourth iteration on the concept.

Sometimes I love it, until people are camping on the top floor. And with One Flag.

Okay, someone please tell me there is something wrong with the division ratings. I was gold the last two days, played yesterday and kept my number in the upper 1500s, and this morning I'm a STEEL!

What the what?

Trickster said:
What in the hell. My daily rating yesterday was 1624, and my division dropped from gold into BRONZE?! :lol

Nope, nothing is wrong.

Provisional Division assignments, like the ones you received, are derived from qualifying population. At some point you were Gold among those who'd qualified. Now, as more people have qualified you've moved back.

Among your 1550 or whatever yesterday, you probably laid a few eggs, those games counted, too.

Additionally, your daily rating doesn't take into account the quality of opponents (the formula is on bungie.net there's no value for 'Am I playing Steel or Onyx dudes'). So even in Steel - guys are going to have big games and put up 1700s - and that's good.

A high Day Rating is like being a great minor league pitcher, your Mom is proud, but you aren't on SportsCenter.

thanks for the info luke. I think I will have more fun playing at the top of my division rather than the top division. bronze for lyfffe

Thanks. I keep the OP updated with the full knowledge that no one will read it. But I try. :lol

Still don't get the point of a day rating. If the overall Arena rank takes every game into account, why not have the daily rating re-average after every game once you've done 3 for the day? It would be less confusing.

"Did you play hockey as a kid?"
"No, I was a figure skater. It's basically the same thing, except your Dad's less proud."

I will be on for the first rounds of Invasion shortly, but I promised my wife we'd play Perfect Dark first (try as I might, no luck getting her to play Halo, much less volunteer for playing in the Beta).

God that was a wonderful episode. :lol
Oh it was :lol

Arena ranking confuses me still. But I'll just roll with it. I doubt I'll play a ton of it anyway. I'll probably lean more towards Invasion and Social.

I wasn't saying anything was wrong, I'm just surprised I dropped all the way to bronze. People are better at the game than I thought.

But I am surprised that I'm not judged solely by my top 3 games ( daily rating ). I guess that even the games were I get steamrolled by 4 guys in a party, and half my team leaves, are also used to figure out what division I'm in huh?

I guess I shouldnt expect to come close to Gold again unless I start partying up with people myself :lol
