Halo: Reach Beta Thread

with everything that happened to lead to dissatisfaction with being owned by microsoft, i can only hope that bungie had a great team of lawyers and outstanding studio leadership to make sure that they are fully protected as an independent studio, with full ownership of IP.

godspeed my good friends. godspeed.

10 years to me says, epic sequels already planned!

Read the details of the deal, Ghaleon. It's not as bad as it first appears.
It's Activision.

Like, I don't shop at Wal-Mart because I consider them a very damaging influence on the world and my community. I don't buy Activision games because I think they do great harm to the gaming industry and their developers. I'm just groggy and shocked.

Bungie keeps the IP, and hopefully has full control over DLC issues such as timing and pricing so Activision can't fuck Bungie around like Microsoft has.

I'm obviously there for whatever Bungie's working on next, but going with Activision is very un-Bungie like.

Oh wait, World Domination. Alright it makes sense now. Anyone else find it hilarious that really formal, important investors of Activision are going to look at this press release and read about a company's dream of World Domination.
Bungie, now 180 employees strong, was founded in 1991 with two simple goals: develop games that combine brilliant technology, beautiful art, compelling stories and deep gameplay, and sell enough copies to achieve its real goal of total world domination.

Y'know, I bet Bungie probably got a pretty sweet deal since Activision is really going to be hurting from the IW debacle, and they know it. Maybe they used that as a bargaining chip?

Whats funny is all this rabble-rabble about the Activision thing, when in all actuality Joe Consumer doesn't know / care / have any clue who activision is. Most American gamer's don't give a fuck, they just know IP's and EA Sports.

I don't mean to offend you, but I think you're being very naive.

Anyway, does anyone know if the range of the shotgun has increased at all? In one of the videos I saw it seemed to have a greater range.
All activision has is the publishing rights and thats it, Bungie has all creative freedom and this is only 1 of their new IP's, so Bungie didnt make a bad choice, they just got someone to publish their game. Now Bungie would be stupid to let them do anything else than publish but since this deal was only about publishing, they are in the clear.

The Activision news was the absolute worst thing possible to wake up to. What the fuck, Bungie?
A single day can only be so awesome. This is the universe balancing things out.

Not really, the statement says it's a 10 year deal for one IP, which even then Bungie retains. It's not like Bungie has been bought, they're still free to do what they want. They could very easily make a second IP and have that published by someone else, unlikely yes but with this deal they could.

People are overracting, mostly because they're just seeing the headline and assuming the worst. As I said before Bungie aren't stupid, this contract will have had to be ironclad in their favour before they signed up.

Yeah, I know Acitivision is bad, but everyone is acting like Bungie has sold itself to Activision, and that's far from it. Activision only has control over Bungie's next, new IP, that one new IP, and that's it.

You're half right, Joe Comsumer usually assumes the publisher is who makes the game, at least in my experience. So they're most likely to see something and go "oh hey that's the guys that made CoD".

You know, I'm pretty sure all the enemy weapons are unlimited ammo, they just have a random clip amount when dropped.
When I think of unlimited ammo I think shoot forever no reloading. I've never really thought of a covenant weapon having unlimited ammo.

Which doesn't exactly bode well for Bungie making a new IP now does it?:lol

Now you see why I question Bungie's decision making...

:lol

Yeah I'm sure the wad of cash and the higher percentage they undoubtedly make from this deal was a silly move on Bungie's part. Come back down to Earth guys.

Bungie at E3 PS3 Press Conference KONFERMD

No but seriously, fucking Activision? I woke up and saw that and my heart sank. Also I'll be 32 in 10 years. That's almost forever lol. Anywho, REACH BETA WHERE R UUUUUUUUU

This isn't balance. It's like getting a blow job in the morning and then getting run over by a truck. On balance, I'd rather neither happen.

Christ, is it not already clear how Activision treats everyone and everything they come into contact with? Bah.

I hope they know what they're doing. Activision is the absolute last company I expected them to partner with; they're a pox on the industry.

Done ranting now. I'll cope. Bring on the Beta.

Edit: Heh. It's like my favorite director, James Cameron, making movies with Fox. :lol

I'm just glad they keep the IP and hopefully all creative control over subsequent content. I am really looking forward to seeing how Bungie can support their community without MS interfering. And hopefully, without Activision doing the same.

Yea, EA/Acti/Ubi/T2 are very recognizeable brands. Developers, not so much.

No, doubt Ghaleon, you'll find no argument here.

I doubt kylej was suggesting it was a poor decision from a business perspective...

We know so little now that of course whatever we say is going to be significantly uninformed. But I think we deserve a little bit of freak out time.

Just make sure you post some sweet clips today so I can have something nice to cry to.
My only disappointment is that the beta doesn't have forge so I can make a statue of Kotick and teabag it.

Recognizable sure, but the consumer doesn't care.
You think even half the people that bought CoD MW2 know why Activision is so 'evil'?

Edit: I have decided this post turned out to not be funny. Will return after maintenance

And Bungie knows what they're doing. They obviously thought this out. Believe...?

Working with the most vile publisher in the business? Not classy.
But it's just like in the movies! The doe-eyed developer with a heart of gold wins over the old and miserly publisher.

Haven't you seen My Fair Lady?

Joke post or semi-serious? Activision can't make Bungie do anything.
Joke post. I'm still unaware of the actual news. Activision should make Bungie do things though. Master Chief Pro Skateboard peripheral confirmed.

Clearly Bungie is testing all of you right now. They want to see how much dedication you have. Will you follow them into oblivion?
You guys are failing.

Out of nowhere, I decided I hate ginger beards.

The thing that bugs me is that I can't help but think "god, is this going to mess with Reach polishing e finishing?".

I know the answer is NO, but still.

Activision scares me, because I love Bungie.

And now I have to buy the game for every platform xD

When Mr. Kotick inquires, "Where the devil are my slippers", people get beat up and dumped in the street.

I guess this sort of reaction is what happens when people forget Bungie is a company with the goal of making money like every other company.
