Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Any useful tips for the DMR. I've been using it in the same scenarios as the Halo 3 BR just to get a feel but I haven't been able to do as good shit. I'll get a few distance kills picking off guys but at a little over midrange I'm having problems with guys closing the distance and beating me. With the BR I was able to just continue my assult and win over an AR as they charged as long as I got a hit or two in first. Do I suck or am I not supposed to win in this situation as easily?
You answered you own question. :p

The DMR is a mid to long range weapon. Closer up, it is at the disadvantage and you should be rocking the pistol or some other weapon. The two maps released so far really don't have many ideal firing lines for the DMR at its intended range; Boneyard (Invasion) and Overlook (Generator Defense) will.

Eh, I don't think it's a very good design to basically reward rushing towards the other guy without even bothering shooting him.

They don't need to make it as easy to one hit melee someone to death as it was in halo 3, but I really think being able to one hit melee someone if they have something like 20% shield left, would massively improve melee combat.

If someone is rushing at you without shooting, all you need to do is back-up and shoot or nade the guy till his shields drop, then proceed to either headshot him or melee him and you will win every time. The meleeing first always results in winning is only true if you haven't dropped the dudes shields first, otherwise he can melee you first and you will win with the second melee cause he has no shields.

Sorry if this has been asked before...but has the sword been nerfed?

Twice today I melee'd a sword attacker in mid-lunge and stopped the kill. I also had it done to me.

If it's intended, it is awesome.

Completely inteded. Shotgun is the thing you should watch out for now, harder to spot and will kill you in 2 shots from quite a distance.

By design. Personally, I'm not a fan of the change.

Grenade deflects a Rocket!

Things that need to be fixed or added in reach:

-Grenade radius lowered.
-Grenade timer increased a little bit.
-Movement speed increased.
-Change sprint to dash and make it usable in any direction.
-Melee lung should be lowered or add the ability to block all melees.

People that use that strategy usually use sprint though, making backing up a pretty non viable option as they will close the gab in no time.

Edit - On a different matter. Could someone tell me what causes my radar to show a boatload of fake enemies on the radar? I think it's the stealth AA but not sure.

i does not concur with any of that.

My main complaint with the melee system is the way too quick double-hit, I think I'd be fine with the melee system if they just slowed down the time between melee attacks, and maybe reduce the lunge a bit too.

Hey guys, Juices asked me to post that's he's got an extra code. He's watching the thread so post if you'd like it. Now he hasn't specified how he'll select who to give it to so don't get mad if he chooses someone at random.

I would appreciate the code so that i could give it to my friend, but alexel asked before i did so he should have it if it's just between me and him :D

Bloom, nades, and melee seem to be the biggest and most consistent complaints so far. IMO, this is due to the fact that if you played a lot of Halo 3, and jump into Reach and attempt to play it like Halo 3, you are going to get your ass kicked mostly due to the bloom, nades, and melee changes. Just because you suck at Reach doesn't mean Reach sucks. Learn how to play the game and then complain if you still don't like it.

Also, btw, no one gives a shit whether or not you are going to buy Reach or continue to play online gaming, so please stop whining as if anyone cares.
Hey screw you man. They are the ones that are most consistent because they might actually be problems that need to be fixed. If everyone else is having problems with the melee and nades then I feel that they seriously need to be looked at which is what Bungie is doing. The point of the beta is to give feedback to improve the game. I hope that the issues that I addressed are taken care of. Bungie needs the complaints to make the game better which is what I am providing. Please put some discussion in before you spew crap out of your ass.

Changing sprint to dash and giving the ability to dash in any direction would spice up gameplay and give you defensive options with the run ability. It would be awesome to dash backwards away from melee rushers and gives sprinters a way to escape grenade spam.

Grenades are too fucking powerful. They have to increase movement speed to compensate for the grenades or neuter them. They are overkill as they are now.

They need to some how fix things in regards to grenades and melee because they are broken.

Someone rushes me for the double melee they're getting 4 extremely quick shots to the chest from my trusty pistol and a smack from my left hook. Next thing they know they're eating my balls and wondering why they even bothered to get out of bed this morning... Just sayin'.

Thanks! I know the DMR is a mid to long range weapon. It just seems like BR is mid to long range as well as being more effective as an opponent comes into closer ranges. The beta maps seem to offer up to mid-range fights but not a whole lot of long range fights so I guess that 'nerfs' the usefullness of the weapon so far. Maybe when invasion is released we will have better opportunites for the weapon.

Oh that's my video :D

I'm loving the new file browser, My stuff is getting popular :lol

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Seems no one is voting on the game type (BTW, great idea Bungie makes me hate Matchmaking slightly less, but MM still sucks copious amounts of shit, server browsers next go around, plz), meanwhile.

And the armor lock ability is useless. You basically become a sitting duck and let someone throw grenades (if they're smart) at you to kill you as you come out of the lock. *shrug*

Same for the jetpack. Doesn't seem that useful. Too slow to take off. :/

Sprint wouldn't be bad if it wasn't put on the stupid bumpers. Meh.

Really want to try out Invasion and the capture the core stress-test mode, but apparently they aren't part of matchmaking. Meh.

So far: Meh. I kinda prefer Halo 3 (as insane as that sounds) over this. I have yet to play an elite (the model I chose in H2/H3), and most people seem focused on Team Slayer/Slayer instead of playing objectives. Meh.

To me it seems like that would make it function too similar to the Elite's Evade ability.

I need to use the pistol you're using, mine usually uses a full clip to pop their shield :(

Okay, so I expected to play three games of Arena today and be put into a division, since this is the third day of the season and I've played three matches each day. However, nothing apparently happened when I finished my three matches. I expected a message to pop up saying "congratulations you've been assigned to the Steel division" but nope.

So what's the deal GAF?

I'm getting such great teammates in arena.

:(
Yesterday I played arena with my cousin and his friend, we raped :lol it helps so much to go in with friends who play also and are easy to talk to. We can play later tonight if you want a partner in the Arena. (I am in UK time)

"They have to", "They need to"... no, They don't.

Some guy did an assassination on me where my guy got on his stomach while he pointed a pistol at me. :lol It may have been a glitch, since it was over a ledge, kinda in the air.

5 headshots will kill a Spartan.

*nods*

Plus if a guy is rushing me, he's well within range for me to spam the trigger 'til he gets within melee range. If I havn't dropped his shields by that point I've failed as a human and deserve to die.

Well I should say that the majority of players are having the same consistent problems just go look at the Bungie forums.

And everyone knows only the smartest, wisest, and most patient of players post on Bungie.net.

4 shots anywhere while shielded, followed by a headshot. To a shielded opponent, headshots don't do any more damage than a shot anywhere else.
This knowledge just raised my power level by 9000, never realised that.
