Halo: Reach Beta Thread

You can install Halo 3 to the hard drive, it's not that big of a deal. It increases loading time by a small percentage, but it shouldn't stop you from playing it altogether.

And they fixed installing to hard drive for ODST, so I'm sure it'll be fine in Reach. Also, Reach multiplayer maps load super duper quick, anyone else noticed that?
Alright. Thanks for the info!

One more question: I haven't played Halo that much so I don't know. But is the Halo 3's multiplayer and ODST's multiplayer basically the same thing? So if I just get Halo 3 off of Games on Demand and get all the map packs, is that basically the same stuff I'll get on ODST's separate multiplayer disc?

Thanks.

I have Halo 3 on Games on Demand and I have no problems whatsoever with multiplayer. Neither myself nor anyone in my party can ever tell that I'm playing without a disc. Campaign levels take a tiny bit longer to load, but for multiplayer it might as well be loading off the disc.
Cool! Thanks.

I think I'm going to finally pick this up! I really want to try out Halo 3's multiplayer and get into it.

ODST has no traditional multiplayer, it just shipped with more maps for Halo 3's multiplayer. All of these additional map packs are now for sale on Xbox Marketplace.

So, in other words, to answer your question: yes, it's the exact same stuff you'd get on ODST's multiplayer disc.

Thanks. Hope Halo 3's multiplayer is fun and addictive. I'm sure it'll be better than Killzone 2's which really disappointed me to be honest.

Idk if money is an issue, but you can get ODST for $20-$30. Buying Halo 3 is cheap, but buying the map packs isn't. I think it's around $30 for them.

Yeah, I was thinking of that. I want to install on my hard drive. I think someone mentioned I can install ODST.

If I can install ODST's multiplayer disc on the hard drive than I'll just do that to save money. If I can't than I'll check out other options.

You can install ODST's multiplayer disc to the HDD.

The multiplayer disc is around 3 GBs or something. Its a small file (in comparison to other games.) I have it installed on my HD. I've never noticed anything wrong. But maybe idk anything about installing games and what to look for. :-p

Thanks guys! You guys just saved me some money for another game! :D

I guess I'll finally get ODST. Well, I got to get Halo 3 as well. I still haven't finished the fight after Halo 2 and I want to see what happens!

Also, the reason why I asked about installing is because I remember reading that the loading times is really long and it messes up the game when you play online.

Maybe it was made into a bigger deal than it should've been and there really is no problem at all.

You can although it'll annoy you that loading times and matchmaking will take longer for Halo 3 multiplayer.

You are welcome to install the ODST campaign.

To emphasize: I can't tell what direction I'm being shot from, nor could anyone in my party. Lots of "What direction did that come from?" "I have no idea!" Very frustrating getting pinged over and over with the DMR and not having a clue where the fire is coming from. If this intentional, please reconsider. If it's not, please restore some kind of Halo 1/2/3/ODST directional fire signal.

This is awesome. :D With a couple exceptions.

If my three teammates quit in Arena and it's ME versus FOUR, And I manage to still pull a 17 - 36 or something, I shouldn't get a 1231 or whatever when it was ME for MOST OF THE MATCH against FOUR PEOPLE and my K/D was .7 . Because there was fucking four people.

Trueskill should take shit like that into account.

So what's the flashing star next to people's names? I assume it signifies a division but I haven't seen any different colors - just silver-ish.

EDIT: Just means a recent promotion.

So has anyone gotten a division assignment yet?

I got my first Untouchable medal today

No, not the real StrongSide or Ogre 1*.

Unless Ogre 1 came back to Halo for Reach. I know that dude now lives in Australia iirc

I don't mind the loading as long as the game is fine when I play the matches.

By the way, about how much longer are the loading times?

And also, why was it made into such a big deal if installing isn't really a game breaker?

Well, just played 1 Flag CTF (which is now "Capture the Flag," WTF Bungie?) with Louis Wu... that is if his Gamertag is the same as his name. :lol

Lost 2-1, but he was the only person on our team with a positive Kill Death. He was like 7-10 to my -4. :lol I felt bad, what with playing a Bungie dude and losing (in typical Bungie fashion)

Doesn't help that I was trying the armor lock (still useless, still able to be killed by grenades too easy) to defend/return the flag. Ce La Vie.

It wasn't made into that big of a deal, Bungie just put a lot of work into making sure the maps loaded as quickly as possible and so they wanted folks to know that by installing to the HDD, they wouldn't load quite as fast. Lots of fans want the best possible experience, so they wanted them to know.

As I said earlier, I've been played Halo 3 off the HDD since it came out on Games on Demand and I can't tell a difference in load times. And I play with a lot of the regulars here and they never noticed that I was playing off the HDD either (if loading maps took any extra significant amount of time, folks in my party would have wondered what was up).

Well here is my story for the night. The one game I jump into normal chat is the game where the homophobic dicks show up to play, so needless to say I want to beat them just because they are running around teabagging everything that moves and throwing profanities around like a frisbee. Enter scenario below.

4582830359_d68fc09349.jpg

1. I come up to the green lift on Swordbase and hear "Hey (homophobic comment) come up here and let me kick the shit out of you"

4582830383_be76f40347.jpg

From these guys

4582830399_eb830509c0.jpg

2. SO naturally I do what any smart Halo player would do, tell my team to stay back and chuck a few grenades up the lift.

4583460278_b391955773.jpg

3. This results in one of my more satisfying double kills, and shuts them up pretty quick, But, I know there is one guy (the one talking the most shit) left so...

4583460296_1bc740a06d.jpg

We head up the lift, he suddenly loses his nerve and starts shooting shotgun rounds in random directions and we kill him.

It was probably the most satisfying kills of the night. Moral of the story is, don't be a douche, and don't be a douche if you are at the top of a lift that is perfect for getting hit in the face with grenades. :D

If anyone wants too look at this clip (it's like 4 seconds long) and tell me what happened, it'd be appreciated. I have absolutely no idea how I died.

The fact that your teammates rocket launcher is bobbing a little as he moves offscreen makes it look like he melee'd you in the back of the head. Maybe he thought he was dead because of the assassination animation so he was just tapping melee. Assassination was canceled, he popped out slightly behind you and bonked you in the back of the head.

Nothing is better than sprinting away, hiding behind something, waiting for the guy to run past you and assassinating him. Well air to ground or ground to air assassinations might be, still, it's incredible. INCREDIBLE.

Yup, both are quality MLG 50s. Pretty sure I recognize those specific tags from the old Final Boss days.

That was my best guess, teammate hit me. Still looked odd though because I just died out of nowhere.

And I hate 1-Flag so much on both maps. It's always the main default pick so idiots who don't vote always miss it and it keeps happening. :(

People on the opposite team should really not yell into their mics so much. Had this team that was blabbing away constantly and talking shit so loud that I could hear them coming from a mile away. I always knew they which way they were coming from. i over heard this one guy screaming into his mic "What now bitch! you teabag me well eat this teabag fucker!!". I walk around a corner a go figure there he is teabagging my dead team mate so I assassinate him and promptly teabag him. Keep in mind I never teabag anyone but this guy deserved it. Don't talk so loud I can hear you coming..... NEVER MIND, talk loud so I can hear you coming.

Wait, so head shots don't do extra damage at all when someone is shielded? But it's a one hit kill when the shields are down?

That explains a lot, but it's SO messed up. Best thing about the BR was you could skillfully take someone out.

For as much as those guys played with the "old" system they could be having trouble making the adjustment.

EDIT - Then again they should still be able to at least shoot people in the head enough for a positive K/D. Friends using their tags maybe or they sold/gave them.

Finally got to play the beta. I would be underwhelmed if I were at all excited about it. Pretty mediocre in all aspects, but frankly I didn't expect much anyway.

However, I ran into some pretty big glitches in a game I uploaded to my file share. No armor ability and strange symbols above the flag capture point. GT is Jack Scofield. I would link to it but I'm on my phone and lazy as fuck. Bungie can sort through it if they're at all curious about it. I know some employees read the thread.

All in all, good effort, but the execution is woefully lacking.
