Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Just got to use the Plasma turret in invasion. I really like the way in controls but I feel sooo slow. I really like the way it looks, and it seems pretty powerful.

My 2 experiences with SvE tonight: Goddamn, Elites are so much better than Spartans it wasn't even close. First game was 50 to 25, 2nd was 50-33 I think, and they only had 3 players too. Just seems terribly unbalanced to me.

Seems like an experiment to me. Now give us Spartan vs. Spartan 6v6+ in the final release!

Rendered. *thunk*

I hopped on for a bit to try out the changes, but the only tweak I got to test was the flag return. I didn't notice a big difference, but I think it seems about right. Mad defense, yo.

Played 4 1/2 games tonight, three of which were SWAT on Sword Base, alas. Did result in an amusing game of chicken, though. (Probably more amusing since I won.)
Thanks for that, you are the mang man.

You know earlier today (well yesterday for most people) I was playing and had gold in arena, then we played some invasion, we go back to arena and I am silver... Bah humbug.

It's on Bungie.net, you can find the link (and the info) in the awesome OP which people apparently stopped reading 2 hours after this thread went up.
I keep up with most bungie info, thought the 19th was just speculation.

Were grenades balanced in the update?? :O (I haven't played post-update)

Starting at 00:55 like 5 grenades went off around you and you didn't die. Usually a single grenade in the same room as me meant death if I didn't have full health and shields.

Sigh - should have seen this coming

Damn, I'm steel too. I figured I was doing at least well enough to get bronze, and maybe maybe even silver. My daily average is over 1500 which is decent I thought!

NA or EU?
I'm from NA, but the key I got was supposedly EU. But everyone I bumped into was American. So I guess NA.

Btw, I suck solo, mostly because my framerate is all over the place, I need a card with more memory or more memory in general.

But which launcher are you going through? You can't sign into an EU account, on the NA servers..

I'm using the EU launcher. I signed up through the EU section, so I guess I am on EU. :lol

That could explain half the problems I'm having.

No, I turned gold. Haven't played for a week since I'm busy but really need to play reach again to see those changes and play the generator gametype.

EDIT: Oh yeah, APB beta. :(

Edit: Wait, got steel confused with Onyx. :lol
Heh, I'll never be in the Onyx club - far too many awful days and even when I'm good I'm not that good - I'm just pleased it finally decided to give me a ranking before the beta ended

What matters is you try, even if you don't think its good enough. At least your not the guy who quits every-time a game starts when it wasn't the game-type he wanted.

What exactly is wrong with the laser?
Joke post? The laser is an anti-vehicle weapon with sniper-like precision and a huge reticule/aim-assist. It kills any vehicle in one shot; it's a vehicle-combat killer. It's also redundant, and needs to be taken out, or nerfed considerably.

Theres a Plasma Turret in Invasion? Was this added as part of the update?

By the way was this a downloadable update, or just a playlist esque update? If they can edit this stuff just in a playlist update then that gets me excited for the custom game options and the versatility Bungie has with matchmaking.

How's the Spartans vs Elites mode in Grab Bag?
My first game was terrible (stats on it are borked at the moment), so at the moment I'm pretty biased against it in it's current form. I started as a Spartan, and after the Elites scored the first few kills two of my teammates quit. Elites proceeded to take all of the power weapons and just slaughter us. I scored a whopping 4 points, and I thank the Halo gods that that I was able to melee-clash against the sword. Only having Sprint as an Armor Ability is just bad, in my opinion. Elites have a huge upper hand with their size and speed, and I'd like to see Spartans have more loadout choices.

KEY 3H964VD432

From the cinematic opening for the BETA. Any idea what this is? Has it been discussed here yet?
A little bit. I just thought it was something nice Bungie made for the beta.

I like the removal of the DMR starts to the first stage of Invasion. In the 9 games I played last night were much more fun, and the Elites were only skunked twice. Good stuff, and it's pretty damned awesome to see that changes can be made to the beta so quickly.

I didn't get a chance to play the update last night (notice popped up as I was signing off).

What are the AA's for Elites in SvE?

I was sad to find out that I landed Silver also.

However, if Onyx is less than 5% of the population and Gold will sit the upper echelon, then I would consider myself a top-tier silver player.

In Halo 3 my best rank achieved was a 45 in FFA. But seeing how so many people were able to achieve general, I feel like in Reach all Onyx and some Gold would have been generals. And I would fall just shy of that mark.

So I'm satisfied. But still going to try and pull out a Gold these past few days

I don't think so, but I did seem to go deaf for three or four seconds straight there. :lol

Hacker.

Look at that reload animation for the pistol at 4 seconds in...

Edit: Ghal is a beast! I am honestly impressed with the back to back double kills... You've come a long way with that Pistol in just a couple weeks ;) hah

I feel the same way. I only got to 41 in TS, doesn't mean I didn't try though. Never could get a good enough team to push forward, didn't have Tashi. :D

I will be trying to up my game and see if I can increase my division. So far no one has jumped up a division, only down right?

Bungie has to do something to get us into games quicker...successfully defending as a Spartan during the first wave and then having to go through the matchmaking process again sucks.

Finally dropped to Gold. The system works! :lol
I did too, but I wonder if it has more to do with me not having played for few days or if I would have dropped anyway.. it would be cool if we had some more insight into what rating is needed for the different divisions, but maybe they'll have that for the final game.

The only game I played in the last few days was total garbage, and so I'm going to conveniently blame it on that. I should probably get back on and make a concerted effort.

I've totally abandoned the Reach Beta for the APB Beta.

They only let me play once a week :( And it was struggling mightily on my weaksauce laptop. This reminds me though, I have to get back into the Lego Universe Beta. They've opened up a bunch of stuff since I last played.

I need to play again tonight before the beta becomes no more, had a 4 day break or so now, maybe it will help me play better after having a break :D

Welp. Really sorry I made you guys play that match with me now. :(

If it's any consolation, though, I'm in Bronze according to my B.net stats.

I've got two more day ratings to get, but I've had a few games that were super fail :(, and one where I got wifetaculared in the middle of the game so I did really terribly. I fully expect steel.

final release will be different, I HOPE.

Uh...I was Onyx at first, then dropped down to Gold after 4 days or so of not playing in the Arena, and now I'm Onyx again.

Protip: do nothing, apparently :P

WHOOO! Went up from Silver to Gold! :D

Originally got Onyx, then dropped to Silver, and now I'm back up to Gold.

Maybe I can work my way back up to Onyx before the beta is over? :lol

edit: Do we have any idea yet what percentage of the population each rank represents? I know Onyx = top 5% but what about the others?

so I have 2 questions regarding the weapons in reach:

- How do you best go about using the AR? I just really don't see the point, I usually switch to the pistol right away.

- What use is the pistol when you pick up a DMR?

I havn't seen it mentioned anywhere.

- AR is OK in a tight space (I guess). I usually spawn and press Y too.

- Pistol gets better the closer your enemy is (also fires faster). DMR gets better the further away your enemy is (higher level of zoom). Somewhere in the middle they match up pretty evenly. My ideal weapons are Pistol DMR. 1 for close range, 1 for long range.

I almost didn't get to play this beta but I fell for the hype and thanks to LunchBox and our mutual love for Tom Brady I was able to score a code.
So glad I did. After years of MW this is such a nice change of pace. I can't get enough of Invasion or Boneyard for that matter. LOVE the map.
I know I'm probably not helping here as this is more meant for feedback on issues in the game but I just wanted to say I can not wait for official release in the fall.
And as far as invasion goes I've been on teams that have kicked ass or have had their ass kicked as both a Spartan and an Elite.
Two matches last night where the core was two steps from victory. =O
Love the needler. If I don't start with one my mission is to find one on the ground. Can usually find them scattered everywhere.:D

So I guess buffing the AR by like 10% (maybe with a bit higher spread) wouldn't be the worst idea...

Alright. I think I've played enough of SvE Slayer to judge it.

What I Like:
1. One-grenade starts. Significantly helps with the spam, and I have less problems with grenades this way.
2. DMR/Nerfle starts, though I'm not sure why there is no AR/PR secondary.

What I Don't Like:
1. Is it just me, or do Elites almost always win? I've played several games of this gametype, and I'm pretty sure that in every single game I've played, the Elites have won. That, or it's a vast majority of the time. This clearly shows that the gametype is heavily unbalanced. The only way I'm able to kill an Elite is if he's not paying attention to me, and I take him by surprise, or if I have some power weapon. I almost always lose firefights that involve the Elite shooting at me with a Nerfle and me at him with a DMR. I think this maybe a combination of the two facts that Elites have stronger shields than Spartans and the bloom on the DMR is much harder to control than the Nerfle's.

Overall, I have to say I don't like this gametype.

Yeah I'm not sure how they'd go about balancing a team slayer variant like this seeing as Elites and Spartans are, by their very design, unbalanced.

I really don't understand the lack of loadouts, especially for the weaker Spartans. Elites can almost catch up to a sprinting Spartan, and can easily catch one with a couple of evade rolls. I want to play more games with a decent (or even a full) team to give any real feedback, but I'm really not fond of the lack of loadouts for a clearly unbalanced gametype.
