That looks pretty cool. it looks like the spartans just do a lunge jump forward and do not have a roll animation.. Unless I am mistaken and they do roll later in the film.

I haven't had a chance to play it, but the setup makes me think they're testing how the player traits balance against each other. Elites are supposed to be more powerful, by design: faster native speed, more health, faster shield recharge, full health recharge, evade maneuver. Honestly I was kind of surprised when they announced Spartans vs. Elites Slayer, but I thought they'd tip things over to the Spartans with better load outs for them. But no load outs at all makes me think they're testing just how much better Elites really are, starting each side with more equal footing through the game. Only one grenade is also a tell, since there will be fewer grenade kills and more from mêlée/weapons fire, meaning the player traits are much more of a factor. I have a feeling that just as NT1 is a Firefight test, the SvE is a balancing test.

For my playing style:

When I spawn I'll use the pistol in most cases. If I'm in a tight room, and I just get the feeling that I'll need my AR, I'll pull it out.

I will trade the AR for any weapon except the DMR or Needle Rifle. I'll trade my Pistol for those two. That's what works for me at least.

Totally, they just want to see how rigged they made Elites when in the hands of the Public. I wouldn't expect SvE to be balanced in the Beta. But those who play it, we appreciate your sacrifice.
 
On the tweaked invasion, I always seem to be the only one on the spartan team aware of where the DMR is. Suddenly it's the spartans that are being forced into cover by the nerfle.

On another note, killing the elites and taking their plasma grenades is invaluable for defending the first objective.
 
I wish people knew how to play Invasion. Half of them just run around throwing grenades the entire match. No attempt to get to the objective. Also why are vehicles more fragile than a 90 year old woman?

The last (elite) team I played with took the first two objectives in record time but completely fell apart when it came to securing the core.

By the building at the base of the hill, down off a terrace wall. Basically behind the blue flag return for stockpile, down the hill a bit. Near the gate at the back.

Yeah, it definitely seems like a "lets see what happens" test, to get hard numbers on how superior Elites are compared to humans. I've played a couple of bugged Invasion Slayer games where neither team has AA, and the Elites easily dominated until the next tier unlocked. It'll be interesting to know what they end up doing with this information, but it really gets me excited to think about the level of customization we could have for custom games.

Worst part of Invasion. All the vehicles need a beef up.

Bash me if you want, but I had a thought today and I'm going to share it and hope that Bungie sees it or has done something about it.

Getting new armor pieces is only 1 piece of the player customization puzzle that gamers crave these days - even if they add knee pieces, boots, whatever.

I am completely satisfied in CoD with customization simply because I can SEE the changes on my screen when I play. If I've unlocked an attachment or new camo pattern for my weapon, I can see the changes and I'm satisfied because I've earned it and can see it on a regular basis.

I don't even have to customize my character and I'm satisfied! How interesting!

Bungie has taken the adverse approach which is to customize your avatar/character. That is awesome to a degree. But I can't see these changes basically the entire time I'm playing unless I'm in a third person view - which is usually when you die and aren't really concerned with how your armor looks, but where the person was who killed you.

Perhaps if this was a 3rd person shooter, the armor change gimmick would be nice, but the fact is, if I earned 3500 cR over the period of 30 games, and I spend it on a shoulder pad, I'm never, ever going to see it unless I'm in the lobby. And I really won't be interested in that if I'm going through what Challenges I still have to do/ stats of last game.

CoD had unlocks for camo based on headshots, sure, but Halo could figure out other ways of earning new camo patterns for weapons, and they really could only be Human weapons if they didn't want to add too much to it (because covenant weapons are largely standard issue). I'm not even talking camo in the traditional way of thinking about it, but like a stripe of red or yellow, or different color schemes altogether.

Just my two cents to keep me coming back for more addictiveness in multiplayer and make the player feel rewarded in-game and not in-lobby or in-death screen.

I dropped down to Steel yesterday and then playing through midnight last night, I jumped back up to Bronze. I think that sub 1000 game I had where I accidentally combined some betrayals with suicides from the other day was the culprit. :lol
 
this game is so much better than H3
to ME as I have no problem with change ;)

I love every single change they made and look forward to the tweaks that will come from the beta.

I agree with you for the most part. I would go a step further and mention the golf club from Halo 3. Purely aesthetic yet it was obvious to everyone what that player had. I would love for some customisable weapon skins haha.

I really like that Bungie didnt set weapon unlocks for ranking up, but I agree that the whole ranking up system can seem a little redundant if your not really getting anything 'worth it'. It works well on CoD cos your getting new gadgets to play with, but that hurts gameplay in the long run in my opinion.

I think the full game will have some really interesting armour peices though, and with armour effects im sure the ranking system will be addictive, but at the end of the day, gameplay is more important, and beyond visual things like maybe gun camo, theres not much they can add. Well im not as creative as them, im sure they could think of something.

Thing is, CoD seems to be like a drug for some people, but as soon as they unlock everything the gameplay doesnt keep them interested (thats what its like for me.) Halo on the other hand is SO addictive, I can play all day every day without the need of a reward.
 
so.. apparently I'm steel :(

Oh well, losses must really hurt your division ranking or something because I'm about 50/50 playing with randoms in arena. But at least my KDR is above 1.0

I was using the weapon unlocks as a reference. I'm purely talking about cosmetic changes to the look of the weapon as a reward. Nothing gameplay altering.

And for that matter, Bungie HAVE been the kings of gameplay, yes, and will stay there. Why not add another layer on top that makes it even more compelling with more unlocks the player can SEE IN-GAME?

My post was worded really badly, I agree with you! :D Was just saying that the model used seems better suited for a game where you get gameplay unlocks. Hopefully though things like armour effects are really interesting visually.

I was trying to say, CoD is REALLY addictive till you unlock everything, then it just sort of falls a bit flat (in my own personal opinion). With Halo games, I didnt need that carrot on a stick to keep me playing.

Of course that carrot on a stick isnt a bad thing on its own, just that when a carrot on a stick is detrimental to gameplay then that is a REALLY bad thing. Not that your ideas are detrimental to gameplay, but I feel that the implimentation in CoD was.

I think it's funny how the kills suddenly drop off from the deadly pentagram of Melee, Frags, Pistol, DMR, and needle. For comparison, Melee is less than half of the kills I have with the BR in Hablo 3.
 
I have an awesome shotgun spree that I would love to have rendered, how do I go about that? Can anyone help me with that?

(One of the main reasons I don't play a lot with GAF is the disparity in skills; even when I'm being carried by a team much better than I am, I'm not having much fun because I'm dead all the time. I'd LOVE to play on a team of people who were roughly my skill level - I just don't know many of them. :( )

The game type and maps just make it in favor of the elites. The higher health they have is a big advantage agaisnt the spartans while the armor abilities don't really help at all in Slayer or in the small maps.

I understand what you're saying, but it sounds like excuses for not having it in the game when it clearly would only have advantages if they put it in. I really don't want to wind up saying "oh well, at least the gameplay is good". I've said that for H3 and ODST, and it was excusable that they didn't have it in, but now with the marketplace the way it is, I see it honestly as an apathetic oversight if they didn't put it in.

Also, I sounded harsher than I meant. Kind of like email language. :D I totally see what you're saying.

Shields almost recharge instantly as well.
 
Thank god Bungie resisted that whole unlock better weapons as you play thing. Cause playing against someone who has unlocked a more powerful DMR (or say, unlocked DMR starts while you're stuck with an AR) would do wonders for the longevity of the game. Nothing like punishing newbs for being newbs to discourage new blood from joining the party.

Camo unlocks are rad though. Provides a treadmill while being perfectly harmless to the game. I loved that stuff in CoD4. Gold SVD!

Last time I really played Halo 3 was those Throwback games, those didnt go too well. I ended up jumping off the map non stop. Last time I played Reach with Gaf I used the FaceMelter on my own teams back. I get the feeling if I wanted in I would be rejected. :lol

LMAO.

I had a really bad day yesterday (life-wise), and then I followed that up with a really bad day on Halo: Reach.

Just one of those days when it felt like my weapons were shooting air and every enemy shot was landing perfectly.

I must have rage-quit like 13 games in a row (slight exaggeration). Wouldnt be surprised if I were Steel now. :lol
