Halo: Reach |OT7| What are They to Say Now?

Just thinking about the lack of significant Halo 4 news recently. Should we be worried?

- About 10 months away from scheduled "gold" time
- Not a single single screenshot or video or any in-game media released
- No multiplayer beta talked about or hinted at
- Highly publicised "resignation" of a key staff member
- No tangible gameplay, story or engine details released or discussed

If this was any other game I'm pretty sure Kotaku and IGN would be running rumour stories about delays or something going wrong. Not that I'm implying there's anything to be worried about at all or anything is wrong, it's just I want to know more about the game at this point.

Every "interview" or official comment about Halo 4 has just been recycling the same stuff about respecting the original trilogy, about how the game will let us get to know the Chief more and about this mysterious new world which is active and alive. There's been no real news in ages - even the HaloFest stuff was vague and they danced around supplying any hard details.

I want facts, hints, vague or cryptic descriptions.

*goes back to re-reading Glasslands*
Agreed. Me want new info.

Thinks the Evil Empire is just misunderstood.
Agreed. Me want new info.
As a friend of mine once said, "It's nice to want things."

Rest assured, Halo 4 is coming along on schedule. Speaking for myself I can't wait till we're ready to talk about/show more of what we've been creating.

I expect underpants to catapult across the room when gameplay footage is revealed.

Just saying.

It my underpants remain intact afterwards - might as well close down 343i.

On a side note - been playing Reach a whole lot recently. Was enjoying the move speed and maps in anniversary playlist - but I much prefer 85% slayer, and even vanilla reach over anniversary playlists. I also think that the reach pistol is more fun than the anniversary pistol. You can begin hating me now.

When, in this schedule, might someone like you be ready to tell us more?

What I'm hoping to see in the next matchmaking update.

* Banshees deleted globally from matchmaking, except on Boneyard. Invasion variants should increase the Banshee spawn time or replace the Banshee with the Falcon.

* Fix the vanity round bug in Grifball

* Fix the exploit rooms on Boardwalk (I'll be submitting that info tonight to the CC forum)

* Remove all Slayer variants on Breakneck and Headlong

Matchmaking configuration:

Anniversary
Classic (add optional Blood Gulch variant with classic Halo 1 weapon and powerup layout)
Squad (increase to 6v6)
FFA (increase to 10)

Competitive
Team Slayer
The Arena
Rumble Pit
Team SWAT
Team Objective
Team Snipers
Invasion
Squad Slayer (Anniversary required)
Double Team (Anniversary Required)
Multi Team (All DLC required)
Big Team Battle (all DLC required)

Cooperative
Score Attack
Campaign
Firefight Arcade
Firefight Anniversary (2-man, Anniversary required, Unearthed optional)

Beta (treat like actual beta instead of just gametype preview)
TU ZB Slayer
TU Grab Bag (85% bloom only w/ no bleed through, 1SK Pistol, 150% bloom, Bloomless SWAT w/ no bleedthrough so people can make bloomless variants with no bleedthrough)

Community
Action Sack (delete Shotty Snipers)
Grifball
MLG
Living Dead (Anniversary and Defiant required, implement community infection variants)

- remove Anniversary Squad's redundancy by bringing back a 6v6 playlist experience

- Living Dead moved to more appropriate section

- Kill off Anniversary Big Team, make BTB all DLC required. We don't need two BTB lists. Keep BTB with vanilla Reach settings, except for camo/AL changes, remove Evade

- Kill off Firefight Doubles since it just kinda drifts in space, replace with Anniversary experience with 2 players to imitate Halo 1 co-op configuration

Oh and a quick question. Is there any chance of 85%/bleed-thru etc being applied to the Team Slayer playlist?

I only ask because while I am aware that TO/SS playlists have it - these 2 playlists are damn near unplayable for me as an Australian. I can spend significant periods of time searching for players, and either get matched with Mexicans etc (I am not even joking) or the trueskill system goes completely out the window and it matches me with the first Australians it sees. It's becoming more and more apparent recently that as an Australian , even in the 6pm-10pm range, Team Slayer and BTB are the only playlists that have a significant enough Aussie population for matchmaking to do its thing.

They've already lost money for the last 2 to 3 years even WITH SC2. They're good hype men but not very good at the business side of things.

I'm not sure how they could be losing money for 3 years with Starcraft 2 when that game came out a year and a half ago.

Okay, I've been working on this for a few weeks. I was hoping to get some kind of feedback or approval but nobody ever answered my PMs and I'm impatient.

Here you go:

The post I made on the front page should explain what the site is and (more importantly) what it isn't.

How to get editing access:
- Create a WordPress account if you don't already have one.
- Send me a PM on NeoGAF with your account name and why you want access (e.g. "I want to add my folder of GAF pics to the gallery.", "I want to post custom game events.", etc.)

Everyone might not get full editing control, but at the very least you'll be given enough access to contribute.

The site art isn't too ambitious, I'm fine with the clean look but I'd be happy to change it if our resident artists (Devo, Letters, Ken, etc.) come up with something new.

If there is widespread disapproval of this project (or if the mods want it gone) I can always change things or delete it entirely. Tried my best to get approval beforehand though.

A few ideas:
Devo is welcome to keep the gamertag list updated if she wants, since she did the initial work on that.
Dani can make a sticky post on the front page with the date/time of the next GAF customs.
Tashi can try hiding links to his stream on random pages, until I delete them.
Plywood can keep the GIF gallery well stocked.

...and so on. Enjoy.

I mean even with introducing SC2, they're still losing money. After already losing money.

Maybe they should sign a deal with a real soda like Coca Cola or Pepsi instead of Dr Pepper

Nice work Duncan. Happy to lend some elbow grease. Hope it works out.

As someone that digests large amounts of spoilers, I am starving here. =P

Thanks.

And did I say Dani earlier? I meant Slightly Live.

(I'd already updated that in the gamertag list. I'm actually quite proud of that list - everyone that was on Devo's list has a link to their GAF profile and Xbox.com page.)

Sure, but I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Of course they're going to cash checks that Halo brings in... it's better than not cashing checks. If Starcraft 2 and COD can now generate a profit, and Halo can't because it doesn't have the necessary popularity, they're going to drop it.

Because it's Dr fuckin Pepper. I drink that shit every weekend. It's honestly my favorite soda. It's followed only by good old Classic coke in my book. Hell I'd hook the stuff up via iv if I could. It's that good.

I really hope you guys don't spoil 90% of the locations/ levels in Halo 4 like Bungie did with Reach. I hope every preview/ magazine spread/ gameplay video pre launch is from the first 5 minutes of the game. For as good of a job Bungie does dangling the carrot they showed WAY too much of Reach before release.

Whoa. I like!

I'll start working on bringing up old montages/videos/pictures from back in the day. This is a sweet idea.

I also like the clean look, but perhaps the "HaloGAF" can look a little sharper. Letters/MrBig/Devo or whoever else should make an attempt at it. :)

Looking at the gamertag list, my gamertag is listed as Nintony 64 but I have changed it to LeeroyPinkerton. Is there where I request have it changed? :p

Good job on the website by the way!

So when HaloGAF goes without new game info for too long we start making personal attacks against second-banana soda companies?

Sidebar: Neither Coke nor Pepsi can claim to have the sort of intellectual bent that 4 years of graduate soda studies carries with it. Does that make them less appealing to people over 40? Shouldn't Dr. Pepper be focusing its marketing dollars on getting those people onboard?

Yep! Fixed it.

There are plenty of HaloGAF regulars that still aren't on the list. Request fixes here or by PM. Feel free to add a mugshot as well if you don't have one (or let me know if you want yours replaced or removed).
