Problem is, we arnt getting a VGA trailer which means unless they debut on their own time we likely wont see anything till superbowl 2012 and even thats a long shot since all bets are off at this point.

Superbowl TV spot would be good but $2million is Alot, if its anything like starry night it cant be cheap to produce either.

GDC is typically about technology more than games, and talks from devs ect

CeBIT is Technology and IT based

GDC Expo is just the open floor section of GDC

PAX East could be something, Halo and PAX have had pretty good relations in the past but PAX prime is normally the big one.

Unless we get something by PAX East its going to be June before we get anything and thats VERY unlikely. Im thinking either superbowl or a 2012 media storm starting in january on 343i Time.

Cebit? Microsoft never showed any new Games stuff at Cebit.

Okay, I've been working on this for a few weeks. I was hoping to get some kind of feedback or approval but nobody ever answered my PMs and I'm impatient.

Here you go:



The post I made on the front page should explain what the site is and (more importantly) what it isn't.

How to get editing access:
- Create a WordPress account if you don't already have one.
- Send me a PM on NeoGAF with your account name and why you want access (e.g. "I want to add my folder of GAF pics to the gallery.", "I want to post custom game events.", etc.)

Everyone might not get full editing control, but at the very least you'll be given enough access to contribute.

The site art isn't too ambitious, I'm fine with the clean look but I'd be happy to change it if our resident artists (Devo, Letters, Ken, etc.) come up with something new.

If there is widespread disapproval of this project (or if the mods want it gone) I can always change things or delete it entirely. Tried my best to get approval beforehand though.

A few ideas:
Devo is welcome to keep the gamertag list updated if she wants, since she did the initial work on that.
Dani can make a sticky post on the front page with the date/time of the next GAF customs.
Tashi can try hiding links to his stream on random pages, until I delete them.
Plywood can keep the GIF gallery well stocked.

...and so on. Enjoy.

If I post crazy theories about Primoridum, Cryptum etc., can I post it on this site and refer people to the blog entry?

As to the lack of Halo 4 news, I'll say that I'm tired of games/movies that blow their load ridiculously far in advance to release. Now when the time comes, there's no chance that it can live up to any expectation that you started building up 10 months prior. I understand the need to build an enormous hype train for things now in the age of leaks and spoilers, but it doesn't mean I like it at all.

I agree. I hate when there is a huge reveal when there is nothing to show. Just wait until you have something substantial to show to get the hype train rolling.

I know who you are. Only people who joined in 2011 give me trouble.

Truth is a lot of my friends who played 3 consistently moved on to other things, so my opportunities to play with friends are limited (and HaloGAF largely plays at hours that are anti-social for me because of timezones), and Halo really isn't fun by yourself. I've got into it more again since the new maps came out, though.

And often the discussion going on in here is uninteresting to me, so I don't bother to post, except to troll.

I just don't like what advertising has become now. Think about how little mystery there would be if the original Halo was released now. We'd know all about the Flood before we should have, and there would be tons of spoilery shit online about the whole story, months before the game was released. That's the kind of thing I don't appreciate on any level. Just give me one or two quality trailers that hint at the story for the game and some promo art and be done with it. Any multiplayer beta that we get should be enough to tell us what to expect for combat, so please let me enjoy all facets of singleplayer without having to resort to an internet blackout.

There is hope.I believe Halo 4's marketing effort will be done with gusto, and MS ninja lawyers will be called in if necessary.
But pressure from media outlets to get info to sell their ads and possible leaks makes it preferable to orchestrate your reveals that keep everything shrouded and have Banned Site post all spoilers on page 1 of their site.

TV ads won't need to spill too much beans. After all once you shown you are a modified one man army shooting aliens and robots in space, you've pretty much said what has to be known. But yeah beware game sites, they'll spill everything they can although I suspect 343i will keep an eye on that.

I also want to make a list sorted by location/timezone, I think that would be cool. We could maybe even make one that sorts us into preferred gameplay style for customs, but that would take a little more effort just to collect the data and organize it.

Ridgeline, I think, has way too many power weapons (or it seems that way):
1 Rockets
2 Snipers
2 Shotguns
1 Flak Cannon

And some of their placements are just odd. The sniper rifles, if I am correct, can be found in the prime position to snipe (on a hill). There's a shotgun that spawns next to the active camo...

Ridgeline isn't the only map to have this problem. Beaver Creek does too.

What's with the weird placement and the absurd number of power weapons? Doesn't exactly strike confidence in Halo 4's MP weapon placement and power weapon count.

Also, 343 needs to remove the Rocket Warthog from Ridgeline.
