Crap. My handdrawn image is taller than it is wide, so resizing it to 256x256 squashed it and made it look like butt :( I'm really proud of it though; once the contest is over, I want to share it with GAF.

Sorry if this is just a repost from earlier, but if I read it right Urk has given us a splash of info on a Reach multiplayer map.

Undisclosed Reach Multiplayer map - "Settlement"

  • Set in a human settlement environment on Reach, on top of rocky Canyon near the edge with a waterfall that spills into a river below - "rocks the planet side settlement vibe"
  • Computer terminals and cables inside - "Thick cords of cabling and computer terminals populate part of the (interior's) space’s stark futuristic interiors"
  • Exterior features craggier sections, probably rock outcroppings - "the craggier sections of the deserted exterior outcroppings"
  • Features multiple interior spaces - "one of the map’s smaller interior spaces"
  • Maybe be set a post flood (weather) environment - "water that now pours out of a spillway grating into an azure manmade gully. It sort of gently rolls into the center of an interior space where it pools and ripples hypnotically before being channelled into a waterfall that drops out over the edge of the rocky canyon and into the raging canyon river below."

That's a campaign shot, but it would make for a good MP environment.

Oh, I didn't know if there had been any confirmation that all the screens where from the campaign, nvm then :)

I figure it's inspired by that level or something, because that's what I thought of too. Sort of like how the Rat's Nest art style was inspired by Crow's Nest :D

Look at around 9:15 game time (5:45 into the video). This is on LAN, and it happens pretty often. I was watching this live during the tournament, so I could see Cloud's reaction during all this, he was just "smh" :lol

Add a bit of lag and you can understand why the H3 Sniper can be pretty frustrating at times.

Why not come up with a custom HaloGAF logo, dudes? I actually tried to come up with one ages ago but no one was really interested. Now it would be the perfect time.


Maybe something that is a variation of the NeoGAF logo with an AR and BR added? ;)

Thanks, Dani. I would've never have put those pieces together. Any map with a waterfall in it has to be awesome (see: Valhalla). Construct doesn't count!
 
IGN are doing a big Haiti fundraiser on Wednesday,
including auctioning off one Oonsk
and Mister Chief
Oil Painting.

Would be great if one of us could get it. I doubt I could afford it myself (two months rent due Monday :( ) but if we wanted to form a group to band together and the person who paid the most got the painting I'd definitely be in.

Throw some more ideas out people, I may be able to whip some stuff up. I think we have to forget about the gaf ball though, the update said nothing that remotely looks like a real logo will be accepted. Maybe just a stylized "N" or "G"?

Well I played and enjoyed Halo 1 - 3, but ODST didn't last long for me. Especially considering how much fun and polished Borderlands and CoD: MW2 are. Those two games released around the same time as ODST, and they just feel more modern. Hopefully the can reinvent Halo, but my hype for it is down now.

Nothing there except for the painting.
 
I seriusly doubt a NeoGaf emblem will be accepted, copyright issues aside only a VERY small percentage of players also post on Gaf

something a bit more universal that represents Gaf might be better - someone making a emblem of a BR fighting with a AR :lol

Either way whoo blue HUD im pretty happy theyre going back to blue, I was getting used to yellow though lol

I can't see how COD would feel more "modern" than Halo when it for the most part plays exactly the same as COD 2. Its funny how people expect Halo to reinvent itself with every sequel but COD, which releases a new game every year and is basically the "Madden" of shooters gets a pass.
 
EDGE hadn't arrived in store on Thursday but I felt it was wrong to read the scans, heading into town to pick it up now :)

Basically whoever mentioned the word new without clarifing should get their hands slapped.

They meant that it has been so retooled/upgraded, it's practically a new engine.

It's a heavily reworked Halo 3 engine.

Its a heavily reworked Halo 3 engine but only the basic framework was left.

Its hard to explain but its almost the equivelant of using the same box but putting different contents in - all the actual main bits of code have been redone its just easier to use the same box to package it in.

Thats the way I see it, and the way I programme anything if I ever have too lol - so yeah I would say its basically a new engine
