Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

As expected, the HD version looks absolutely fantastic. More than anything else, though, I hope the scale of the environments and conflict being hinted at here is something we can expect to experience in gameplay.

Oh, and the jagged-toothed Elites look so much more menacing than they ever did before.

I'm still amazed that Bungie actually pulled it off. And to think I was losing hope on them. Shame on me. FUCKING AMAZING.

HD version from Bnet made me cream. Big time.

Was that new screenshot of #6 taken using Theater mode?

Now I remember why I don't post on the gaming side :lol

Oh, and:

Good one, Bungie.
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/halo3/news.html?sid=6149725
The demo shifted away from the crater to the part of the level you see the Master Chief walking in from. He was controllable, which means that the trailer indicates just how good the game will look. Lehto was able to zoom in on the Master Chief with the camera, and you could see the many different ways light reflected objects onto him. For example, you could see light reflect off the ground and onto his armor. A new materials system shows the difference between his armor and the rubber undersuit. It's so detailed that if you bring the camera close to the Master Chief's visor, you see everything in front of him reflected in it, right down to the ammo counter in his rifle.
The demo was realtime, Bungie didn't pull it off in Halo 3, but who's to say Reach can't be different? You could clearly see the jaggies. No one in there right fucking mind makes CG jaggies, fuck. :lol

I'm done with you,

Yeah, Bungie/Microsoft would never purposely mislead us. They're good people.
Of course it may not looked as dynamic in first person gameplay, but you suggested it isn't as impressive looking as the E3 Halo 3 trailer. That's just an ignorant statement.

Unless you're like me, who hopes things look real smooth in general gameplay, instead of the mess they left for Halo 3.

Can you get banned already you annoying fuck? seriously, FUCK OFF.

In other news, I actually dont think this is in-game/real time, whatever. I cant find anywhere where it was stated that it was. Just that it wasnt CG.

I've played quite a bit of Killzone 2 and I don't remember any obvious aliasing in it.

It's because the game was blurred.

Blim is saying this looks too crisp. Big difference.

When you pop in Halo 2 on your 360...it's 720p right? Does it also get some AA?

That's the sort of image quality I'd like in this game. Doesn't have to be 1080p w/ 4xAA like Gran Turismo just better than what we saw in Halo 3 and better than the crop of 640p titles we are used to seeing nowadays.

Uhhh...that was in Halo 3.

I'm going to remain skeptical about the image quality...as a poster reminded us they did this before.

Deception is extremely common in te gaming industry. But theyre not just gonna outright lie dude.
Who is "they"? As far as I know (and I may be wrong) only Geoff Keighley said that it was realtime. It's *not* realtime, it just can't be. No aliasing = not realtime, it's that simple.
The Halo 3 teaser trailer we got from b.net or xboxlive wasn't realtime either, it was a high resolution render of a realtime cutscene (they showed it in realtime at the press conference though), this could very well be the case here too. So it could be running in realtime, but not at that IQ level.

It's definitely not CG, which is all I care about. If the end result is 720 with 2 x AA, then mission accomplished Bungie.

I'm assuming so. That means a pass of AA and AF so it still doesn't quite tell us what the IQ of the game in motion will be like.

Yeah, see my posts above.

I thought I read that "they" (being Bungie) claimed it was real-time in the latest update. I was mistaken - they just said that it was not CG.

My humble apologies good sir.

Beautiful! Please have clean IQ with some AA during gameplay... and the ODST/halo1 wide first person point of view.

edit- lol at the reactions of the halo haters all over the internet, you can really see Bungie delivered.

Yeah, antialiasing looks higher than MSAAx4 and it looks like the entire screen got AFx16 treatment.

well, if the game looks like that but slightly jaggier then I’m cool with it.

and, from a gameplay POV, can we please bring back the crazy powerful grenades with huge blast radii from CE? I miss those.

It's an in-engine cinematic from the game. End of story.

Ka-blam. As stated elsewhere, though it's late and I'm tired so I won't be citing it at the moment, it's a portion of the opening cinematic from the game. As opposed to the announcement trailers from Halo 2 and Halo 3 which were never, to my knowledge, intended to be in the game as-is.

I thought that arm looked odd.

I see minor aliasing on the edges and other artifacts in this shot. Still really clean overall, but I'm not sure how people think it's CG.

as long as it's 720p, then i'm happy. i must be the only one who doesn't really care about aa :( (although i sorta should)

i'm excited the face modeling looks significantly better

This is pretty nuts. First we get people saying the new engine looks terrrible and now we get people saying it looks too good to be in-engine. I love it.

In the trailer they mention Pegasi. It was my understanding that that incident with the Spartan 3s happened after Halo 2 (or at least Halo 1). Not to mention the style of the Helmet with that skull on it. Are we sure this is in fact pre-Halo, or am I out of the loop and/or confused?

Watched it earlier tonight (before HaloGAF customs) on my TV, and it looked great, and it was what it was: the opening cutscene, not a trailer. It has made me excited (new Spartans, Elites return, fighting on REACH), but I think a real trailer and some press coverage will make my hype level go insanely high. When magazines start to cover the game in January, I'm gonna go insane.

Can't wait for the beta.

I'm gonna go watch the trailer again in 720p QT on my iMac, then watch it with better headphones on my laptop in 360p with subtitles.

Jesus Christ. Just watched the 720p video on my TV and... looks so fucking good.

Have that Bnet picture as my background and it's all sorts of gorgeous thrown up on my TV.

If they get this to run at 720p with 2x AA I'll be mightily impressed by the engine. Don't get me wrong, as a lighting whore I think this trailer looks awesome, I'm only saying that it just can't run in realtime on any console hardware with that IQ level.

This is where it all starts, so pre-Halo.

Caring about something being 720p while at the same time claiming NOT to care about AA makes no sense at all dude.

Think about it.

Yes and no. Sub HD resolution add a whole blur to the image that's really unpleasant on big TVs, plus a new level of jaggies of course.

Can anyone give me a screencap of 1:15 where Jorge (The large one) is looking forward?

My print screen isn't working and he's been waiting for a cowboy hat and mustache...
