Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

What type of AOE are we talking about on the plasma pistol?

If there are 3 spartans grouped together will a round hit one directly and splash on the other 2? Because that would be really fun.

I wonder if this means that Reach will utilize custom notification messages much like Halo 2 did (well, it had to). So we'll be seeing standard 360 notifications in addition to Reach specific notifications then? urk? Sketch?

I imagine that invites will still be system-notifications, while queue-joining will be in-game.

What would be really neat is if we can get updates as to how much longer the selected friend has until the end of his current match.

You do. On your active roster page it not only lists all your friends playing but it also lists what parties they are in and the score/time left in the game (which changes with the game so your not constantly refreshing).

Sorry, shame on me for not making myself clear. What I was trying to say is, it would be pretty neat if you could mess around in a custom game or saved film while receiving updates on your friends' status, provided you are still queued to join them.

I hate to directly ask, but does that mean that they are two separate maps? That Powerhouse (as shown in one of the images above) and "Settlement" (the other space featured in the other image above) are two distinct levels/maps?

4 different maps in the trailer. Two of them are shown with Invasion gametypes (Smelter and the rock-strewn green one), two with a mix of more traditional Halo gametypes (and Headhunter). At this point, I think I've watched the trailer enough (and pored over urk's BWU descriptions enough) that I could spawn into Powerhouse right now and atomic teabag most of the Microsoft Alpha testers.

Would have been better with grenade jumping... I can still remember 1 flag on Burial Mounds, 11/9/2004, trying over and over again to creatively grenade jump in objective games and losing my shit because I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working when it had worked earlier in the night on split screen. How that little "feature" got past Bungie's testers I will never understand.

I'm just going to go ahead and say this now: I don't think we are going to see any remakes of old multiplayer maps from the previous games.

Don't want to get my hopes up and then not have it happen :(

I wanna see sweep sniping return to Halo in Reach. It was awesome in Halo 2 but very rare in Halo 3

You will definitely wanna watch it a few times to see what happens. You might wanna download it and play it in slow mo. Don't blink.

Also, I just remembered I had this clip, it's quite dirty. I wanted to share. I got the callout that someone was sniping on the opposite platform. I called the headshot before I attempted it. Where the fuck did that come from?!?!

Also, Nutter, sorry for not joining up. I just wanted to do a few games of MLG and then I was done. I am definitely down for some Weak-ass Social Slayer another time :p

The game cases are brand new and in this particular case the Halo 3 Mythic disc would be untouched (they never rented it out). As for the games themselves, they might come with a couple scratches but they usually work just fine.

Ive been thinking about this.

If this turns out to be Bungie's last endeavor in the Halo Universe for a while, the chance of them releasing the previous maps for Reach could in fact be possible.

As a business standpoint, it can be a Giant Map pack that is released as the last batch of multiplayer DLC for the game. It would add serious legs to an already serious marathon runner.

Id pay handsomely for a Map Pack. That I would.

Holy Shit that screen is sexy as hell. The detail on that character model is insane compared to Halo 3. So its Wednesday and I'd imagine if any gaming website is going to drop the story on the new feature reveal for this week it will be today or tomorrow so it can sink in a bit before the update, unless Bungie is going to do the reveal themselves.

Wouldn't the old maps be broken with the new abilities?

Perhaps you can restrict those abilities when you create your custom game...that would make sense then.

Maybe you can force only one loadout in customs. Like everyone has jetpacks so it's like Tribes.

Jetpacks and Swords only.

I think having more than one ability would really break the gameplay in terms of fairness.

Imagine Jetpack + Cloaking + Rocket Launcher and Shotgun.

Now imagine a whole team with that.
Now imagine two whole teams with that!

Having more than one ability would make everything much much more strategic. But making that work fairly would be really hard.

Well, I was thinking about two abilities at once; not more. But yes, balancing would become really tricky to say the least.

Maybe some dedicated particular game mode could hold up well.

Or maybe leave that possibility for the campaign and firefight. There's more to it also: certain abilities can't go well together, like cloaking and jetpacks. Jetpacks - I suppose - should be quite noisy, so compromizing the sneaky effect.

Just brainstorming, really, don't take this too seriously. xD

If the mongoose with jetpack idea would work (maybe if the two players use the jetpack simultaneously), then I think rocket race could have an interesting twist too.

Imagine Scuds with jetpacks! I can see a few new Action Sack gametypes being created, if armor abilities are a custom games option.

Does anyone remember in Crackdown, the jumping races? When you got the super jump really high, you had to jump to the next green area, sometimes really stretching how you think about jumping and when to jump, how high, etc.

I hope we get some sort of idea similar to this with the jet packs! Better than mongoose racing in some ways!

Yep. They could definitely pull something off like that. VIP maybe? IDK about every player though.
