Could also be related to a new Reach Stock Market feature. That Covenant glassing must have hit the metal markets hard.

Little in game messages as you progress informing you of your dwindling asset values.

Word of advice: DO NOT invest into the jetpack market!

So it sounds like tomorrow we will find out what the credit system is all about. I'm still really hoping we get specs on Invasion and Head Hunter (even though we kinda know what it is already).

Ahh yes, I almost forgot about that bit. Wasn't Luke spotted in the ViDoc doing something with armor customization? I couldn't tell if it was him, but I remember people talking about it.

Dude demand for jetpacks is gonna be WAY up. Totally the time to invest.

Now you probably don't want to be investing in the Orbital MAC companies...

My bet: you earn credits to spend on armor customization pieces, something like the Rainbow Six Vegas 2 customization system. Unlike that game, the pieces are cosmetic only, offering no performance boost.

Hopefully it's in a different context to what I'm thinking.

You get rewarded for your continued investment in the game. There's no other context to it.

I can't say with 100% certainty but I believe those tokens will apply to May 3rd access to the beta. My guess is that the codes would be sent out on that day but I don't have the final details yet. The sheer volume and scope of those offers would exponentially increase the scope of the "friends and family" weekend (which is really just a smaller scale ice breaker to make sure we're ready for prime time before we open the flood gates on Monday).

I don't want to write any checks I can't cash but I'm pretty sure we'll end up with some number of extra early invites to spread around as we can. We're all family here, right? :D

I like to consider myself something like one of Bungie's second cousins twice removed.

A Halo themed country-western music variety show would make an excellent podcast supplement. Or not. :D

I fully endorse this idea.

I believe they're referring to the hooks they're building in to keep players invested in their accounts, so as to discourage account selling. My guess is that none of the uses of the rumored credits will give a player any advantage gameplay wise. In addition to being used for armor permutations (which is speculation at this point), maybe something like Uncharted 2, where you can use money earned in Single and Multiplayer to buy Behind the Scenes videos and Photo Galleries and Campaign gameplay tweaks.

P.S. As for the Reach stock market, I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Are you listening? Plastics.

Hopefully I get lucky again to get in F&F. Getting in Halo 3 Beta early was so awesome. The messages from all my friends was the best part.

News like this is sad news for some of us. :(

Not complaining...love how this time the beta is open to so many people and they can guarantee a chance to play the game.

My buds and I play H3 LAN nearly every Saturday night so it would be nice to get it on the weekend before May 3rd.

Would be nice.

How did you get into the F&F last time? It seems like a lot of forum posters got in?
HaloGaf, we know you better than your family does, so let us in :lol

Think I'll go read some Evolutions in celebration of the new details coming tomorrow.
I'm going to play some Miner Dig Deep, and maybe map some more of the Labyrinth Proper in Shining in the Darkness.

Very interested to learn about the mechanisms for acquiring and then expending credits - the hows, whys and whats.

Agree it will be both armor and cosmetic only. I'm hoping they thrown some surprises in, but that's certainly what I'm expecting.

Ok , THAT'S the 'investment' I was hoping for.

Don't even ask the 'worst case scenario' I was thinking. It was something along the lines of:

For some stupid reason I thought we'd have like asset management or some bullshit in there. And I was thinking "VADERNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

This was exactly was I was thinking too. I'm sure by earning achievements or beating the game, you can unlock special pieces.

I think that is a part of it, but only the tip of the iceberg. Can't wait till tomorrow

Boy, Bungie must really hate smurfing. I'm so glad for these plans to extend longevity though. A LOT of my friends smurfed to get around the TS system to get their 50's.

I'm intrigued by the use of 'credits'. This must have REALLY deep multiplayer if a credit system is going to be implemented.

Perhaps you get credits as a reward for your performance within a certain bracket of Arena?

Pretty sure one of the leaked Tom Morello shots had the cR in campaign, which implies a cross-mode system. Of course Bungie has been talking about how they want your Spartan to be the same in multiplayer and campaign so that fits.

But my guess is there will be a lot of different ways to get cR

Do you dream about creating worlds imbued with real value and consequence? Can you find the fine line between a reward that encourages players to have fun and an incentive that enslaves them?

The talk about monthly seasons and rating is definitely a part of this. I wonder what else Bungie has in mind?

It would be interesting of some kind of gambling with these credits, risking credits on the rating score?

Looking like they may be executing step 7...or would they wait for their new IP for that?:D

I would invest in something like the pistol or sniper, a few days after Reach gets destroyed they improve drastically :lol
bobs99, the Warren Buffett of HaloGAF... Can I give you some of my cR to invest for me? As for jet packs, I'm expecting both supply and demand to soar right around May 3rd, so it could really go either way...

Agreed. Confirmation of this would be awesome; with the matchmaking setup they've detailed, the only thing missing that I would really really want is some sort of carrot on a stick progression that games like MW2/BC2 offer.

I think they are announcing special Reach handcuffs and shock collar. Handcuffs for the Xbox so you CAN'T GET AWAY until you get your league assignment, and the shock collar to give you a few volts every hour you aren't playing Reach, just as a reminder that you have it. What invests a player more than negative reinforcement?

Anything that you can add to your account will just mean it'll be sold for more money. For example, if after X amount of hours playing, you're rewarded with a special armor, people will buy that shit at a high price. I doubt the system is in place to stop people from selling accounts, it's to keep players coming back to the game.

It's fine if people sell accounts. It's the creation of one-month alts and boosting them to 50 in a matter of days that fucks MM up. If people really wanna grind cP for a months on end to eventually sell it they're not really hurting anyone but themselves.

Why are people obsessed with this shit?

I hope Bungie learned their lesson from the Recon Helmet BS, and don't get snippy with things that kids can't have; accounts getting hacked isn't very fun, and some folks here even got their accounts jacked by spoiled kids who wanted the helmet.

Yes, it would be nice for tons and tons of handouts to be given, but they're only a "limited supply".

Yea, account hacking is fucked up.

In Halo 3 now it's the about the level and exp. From what I've seen, it used to be more about getting the 50 but now people will drop over 100$ for a 50 with lots of EXP. Some guy offered to buy my account just because I've got a ton of MLG exp. I'll never understand it. However, as long as there are ranks in matchmaking, that shit won't go away.

With Arena, I can see a lot of accounts being sold early on. Maybe someone wants an awesome 1st and 2nd season on the back of their baseball card. However, the demand for those will decrease as they're all bought up but the demand for accounts with 12+ awesome Onyx seasons will increase. But by then, there will be a relatively small amount of those accounts and the prices for them will be large. Reach will have crazy legs though and people will be looking to buy accounts with good 1st, 2nd or 3rd seasons when they first buy it way after its release date.

It's tough to tell how it will be exactly, but I don't see account selling and alt accounts going away.

Would be neat to do not just solids, but patterns. I've got a four year-old who would love to play in zebra stripes (which she keeps drawing on herself - it's what she's going to be when she grows up).

Are there more stories to be told in the Halo universe? Absolutely. Do I think Reach will be the biggest game ever and probably attract an even larger audience to the fan community? Yes, I actually do. I would think that the marketplace for a movie would be more ripe post Reach than it even was after Halo 3, so I'm willing to bet that it's not a matter of if, just when.

I'm just speculating here since it's Microsoft's decision, but looking at how Halo Legends went and the release of that animated feature, definitely there's demand for it, and I do applaud them for not rushing into it and waiting until they find the right people and the right creative ideas and the right time frame. I think all of us at Bungie would love to see the right movie still get made with the right people; we're just going to have to wait and see, just like all of our fans!

A color wheel has been something I have wanted since Halo 2.

I'm also curious to how much armor permutations we will get. It doesn't seem as drastic as Halo 3's were, but that personally isn't a big deal. Still am hoping for a decent amount. The eroding of the armor/color on the Spartan is a great detail, and made Halo 2 look rigid in its own right.

Also, this was the article that Luke Plunkett was referencing: http://www.industrygamers.com/news/halo-reach-should-make-a-halo-movie-more-likely-says-bungie/

Quote from that article:

Microsoft's Frank O'Connor also told IGN this February, "I do work every week connected to when a movie, or if a movie, is eventually made, are we ready to go? And the answer is very much so, yes. But we can afford to bide our time and wait for the exact perfect time and the exact perfect partner."

Just wanted to add that I think Neil Blomkamp would have been perfect for a Halo movie. If you have seen Halo 3: Landfall, or even District 9, then you would know what I am talking about.
