Making a flag run is supposed to be a risk. Making it possible to run full speed and have the option to drop it and become fully equipped fails to make it a risk.

Flag running isn't a risk in anything outside of MLG. You can suicide train the flag across every map with ease. Long flag return times suck way harder than juggling.

edit. In honor of the first MLG combine this weekend here is a flag drop clip soaked in eau de wape http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/Kq181xN4L8o.html

I think some of the flag juggling will be replaced by jetpack / sprinting flag steals.
Didn't think of that! :O Unless armor abilities are disabled when carrying the flag.

With the information we know now, I can see myself almost exclusively using the Jetpack ability (If we are given the option to chose.) If they are picked up on the map, then I'll use whatever I come across.
Yeah. From all the armor abilities we've heard about so far, I see myself using the jet pack the most.

My main concern about armor abilities is that there won't be a lot of them. I hope we have, at the very least, as many armor abilities in Reach as we did equipment in Halo 3.

Halo 3 Equipment

Mine
Bubble Shiled
Deployable cover
Regenerator
flare
radar jammer
power drainer
lifts
turret (lol)

AA we've seen

Personal shield
jetpack
sprint
Elite roll ability and or (<>) ability.

Not counting the pointless turret, Reach already half as much EQ as h3 did, and if I remember correctly, we only had Mines, bubble shields and lifts for the beta (less than half). I think we're in good shape there.

Flag juggling is essential to CTF. It's an art. A good flag runner makes all the difference in the world in a match. I also think the damage of the objectives should be like they were in Halo 2. 2 beatdowns with an objective in hand kills the guy or 1 to the head. That was a great system.

1-hit kill in FFA, 2-hit kill in Team games. Melee damage needs to go back to how it was pre-Halo 3: jumping melee > running melee > standing melee. Also different weapons nead to deal different damage. A RL melee should deal more damage than a PP melee. All this IMO of course.

The funniest thing about flag juggling is that because so many people do it, no one ever seems to come an find me when I just normally march the flag back to my base. I love it. :lol
I've been yelled at for not juggling - the yelling generally stops when the flag caps. :lol

(At lower skill levels - levels I play at, for example - flag juggling fails more often because letting the other team know where you are is more of a detriment than the speed boost you get; flag juggling works best when your team is actually backing you up, and killing those who are after you. At higher skill levels, that coverage comes more naturally, and the speed boost is easily worth the risk.)

I guess what I should of said, and what someone suggested, is at least have an option to turn off the announcer when someone juggles the flag... I do see the risk / reward of exploiting the flag in this way, so I suppose taking out that strategy for some people would be detrimental.

Other than that I still enjoy Halo, cannot wait for the daily system and arena ladder system, going to be awesome~

Yep, the lower level that I play at have the same problem. Mostly it's just people fanning out across the map to win personal glory, leaving shitty ol me to defend the flag against an organized push from the other team. I'd appreciate their teamwork more if I wasn't too busy getting my ass handed to me.

Yep, I'd like for them to include as many options as possible.

I want to adjust audio settings separately, I want to adjust X and Y axys separately, I want to be able turn off the stupid achievement tracker pop-up for my first playthrough (I always turn off the xbox 360 notifications for first playthroughs), it breaks the immersion factor for me (gears 2, odst, mass effect 2.. why am I not allowed to turn that off???), etc etc etc.

Not a Jellyfish

but I am a sheep
I think the announcers voice while flag juggling is key, as player it really lets me know how quickly the flag is being moved so I know if it is a complete lost cause to hop on a vehicle and try to cut off the carrier.

I think if the voice was turned off I would end up trying to cut the flag off to only see it scored right when I get there and end up being out numbered and killed at the enemy base.

or, you could just have an icon that flashes if the announcer is turned off, or just have it flash regardless, so you can still see that its getting picked up and dropped over and over...

I just read over the Griesemer publication about balance and flow. Very enlightening. I kept thinking about how much better MW2 could've been if the people in charge of balancing that game could've heard his presentation.

The whole "season" thing sounds cool and all but I wish Bungie would get the hint that everyone doesn't just want to play for themselves. I really think they "just don't get it". People want to play with a team and feel like they are part of a team. Individual ranks are great for lone wolves, but most people play in teams or with friends.

Bring back some kind of clan structure. Have a team rank so that friends can get together and feel like they are working towards something together rather than just for themselves all the time. I can't imagine how awesome it would be and addictive for me and my friends if the whole "season" feature they're doing could somehow be implemented for teams of players rather than just individual players.

Really interesting, I never thought about, "Balance = Longetivity" like that. It makes sense now that I've heard it though. I had the exact same response to "30 seconds of Fun."

Haha, plus he references RadioLab

What don't they get? They brought back Active Roaster from Halo 2 as it was a feature that folks wanted and was sorely missed, apparently. They didn't bring back the Clan support from Halo 2 because the usage of that feature in the online community playing the game was less than 10% (can't remember the exact number mention offhand).

I agree that teaming up with friends and facing off against other teams in some kind of clan format would be cool but the feature wasn't heavily used when it was available so there is hardly any reason or justification to bring it back when there's other priorities for the game.

I had a quick look, I cant figure out what this MS expert zone thing is, should I just take the plunge and sign up (with fake details?).

Didnt Luke say that the F&F is only starting like 3 days before the main Beta anyway?

Don't bother. People were exploiting the site for discounted hardware and software (as per the rewards system from the Program). They cracked down on fake accounts by asking folks to send in scans of their pay slips for verification.

Plus any code from there could easily be traced back to you when you use your Xbox/GT to redeem it, not too hot if they decide you've fooled them.

Additionally, just because they are receiving code in April, doesn't mean they were get early Beta access. The codes could be simply sent out in advance with details to redeem them come May 3rd like everyone else.

Not worth it.

Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciate it, and your probably right, I doubt the codes will 'go live' till May anyway.

Does that mean team play isn't important? Nope. It's intrinsic. If you want to hole up all by your lonesome or go totally Rambo, you're not utilizing your resources effectively. And your rating will certainly reflect your poor judgment if the other team capitalizes on your selfish play. It's not just your kills-per-death ratio that informs where your game rating ends up; we're able to weed through a wealth of relevant statistical information to make the right call.
I think you need to re-read that information. Bungie does get the hint, and they have designed the Arena to track more stats than just those of your individual kills. How well you play with/for your team is factored in to a much larger degree than before, and any individual tracking is done for your benefit in case you happen to still do really well in spite of a team loss.

There were other things that were dumb about clan's too. Only being able to be a member of one clan at a time and the fact that clan games were just the same playlists made it boring. It really was just a second friends list, something you can get with FoF just as easily now.

Enough to risk a ban because you may have acquired the code through deception?
Actually I didn't create a fake account, one of my friends that works at the Gamestop down the street said he would give me the code since he doesn't like Halo too much. I am actually applying there soon as well since I need a job lol.

Well team slayer in Halo is more akin to a team game like basketball or football, where the team moves up in standing or rank based on the team's performance rather than just individual players moving up as in a non-team sport like tennis or boxing. I would still like to see a mode that pays attention to that and encourages team competition rather than individual ranks a little more.

Well I am going to assume you can not carry the flag when using sprint. (as your gun is disabled as well, using sprint)

Though you will be able to use the jetpack with the flag (reasoning is that you can clearly use your weapons while up in the air)

So bunny hopping with the flag will take on a whole different meaning.. :lol

I'm sure we'll see very interesting ways to pass the flag to a team mate waiting outside of the enemy base

No doubt there are folks are folks willing to fake their way through a website or more than that to drink from the Beta pint glass early. No doubt due to how fast this news is spreading that there will be folks trying this method, a lot of people most likely.

I doubt the sudden influx of new members at the site will go unnoticed either, though. Hype makes folks do silly things.

Imagine the whole team forming a line back to their base!

That reminds me. I hope Flag games don't get annoying with that "Warthog of the skies"(sorry, i forget the vehicle's name).

Having someone get the flag, jetpack into that vehicle and being driven straight back home would ruin all the fun

Are you sure? =P

It's all about balance. I'm sure things will be worked out in a fun way. The Hornet* didn't break objective games in Halo 3 (if anything, the Hornet* provided for some, epic moments) and the Falcon won't be any different in that sense.

*Balanced Hornet, not the broken Hornet that shipped with the game and was subsequently never used in Matchmaking proper!

I see what you did there!

Obviously there are anti-vehicle weapons to deal with that but I was just saying that some Flag games may get repetitive if - as you said - there is no balance
