Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

So inspired by Bladed I made this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KlctrgwDD0

It was an experiment in seeing how well I could set my stuff against the Reach reveal music, I really wanted to try and get the timing between the music and the gameplay right - which is something I suck at :lol

I would love constructive feedback, did I get the timing right?

P.S. Its amazing how much footage Bungie put in that 1:20 odd seconds!

I thought that was great. The slow mo timing was perfect with the music.

I have actually been quite impressed with the quality of Reach coverage including IGN so I have faith in GTTV that their Invasion piece will cover all the bases.
I've been impressed too, but I think a lot of the reason why the coverage has been so good is Bungie's hand-holding. Every week, the site with the reveal seems to have had a lengthy interview with 3-4 team members (a lot of them senior team members with a ton of experience under their belts) who have gone out of their way to clear up any confusion, both for the journalists during the interview and for the community at large on various message boards after the reveal. I think it's a great idea, but I'm just pointing out that this has been more of a successful press/media blitz by the cagey veterans at Bungie than a triumph of gaming journalists at large. Either way, it's been great so far.

Pretty good actually! Some nicely timed audio too. Its not the easiest music to do that kind of thing to. Bungie did a great job of putting their clips to it now I think about it. Though they had a lot more clips and information to work with.

Hope we get to see those in flight assassination screens this week that Brian was working on.

off topic: anyone heard when the Bungie crew will be in H2 MM tomorrow?

Back from ten days in Internetless land, I'm loving these screens and all the info from the latest BWU :D My girlfriend is staying at my place for a dozen days so I won't be much on the PC but I'll be checking Bnet and GAF while I'm in class :lol

Unfortunately I don't have H2 with me at college, at least not the Xbox version =( Farewell, sweet prince..
That's too bad.

Someone tell me the Mongoose is in the final game. I'm still surprised we get five staples as the vehicles for the Beta, and no 'Goose.

With a sprint AA, I wouldn't be surprised if the goose is axed.

I would be bummed if there was no goose. I now refer to the ATV in any game I play as a mongoose. That said they do seem to be trimming the fat with Reach and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the old goose got the axe.

I wish squad battle was played on a few other maps such as The Pit, Narrows, Construct, Citadel, and Black Out. The chaotic battles of 8v8 on the smaller maps are what I miss the most from Halo:CE and even Halo2. Chillout, Wizard, Derelict, Prisoner, Battle Creek and Longest were such good times. Now it seems that we're required by law to play BTB games on big maps only, even Squad battle. And I guess it makes sense for connection purposes, but I wouldn't think it would be as big of a problem with squad battle.

Riding a mongoose across a level will still be faster than running
Also depends on what maps they're bringing into Reach. They may not have maps like Avalanche or Sandtrap. With everybody always having abilities attached, unlike Halo 3, they may feel the Mongoose would just be enough to remove. I wouldn't care either way. If they keep it, it needs to serve a purpose other than as a tool to rush across the map (which would diminish the sprint AA).

Ah, forgot the trailer. It was involved.

Thanks!

I really wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do it, musically im a retard and if I ever make a full on montage I dont want it to suck. :lol I was pretty limited in the clips I had but with such a short track that was probably a good thing. What impresses me most is just how many clips and just how much of that info Bungie conveyed in the really short time.

And thanks for the comments Tashi, Schmitty and Deputy Moonman - im glad the slo mo thing came out well!

Too short. Didn't grab attention.
I seriously lol-ed at this sequence. I know lttp, but this thread moves too fast frankly. Pun intended.

I played some H2 last night. Man, I miss that game. got a running riot on my first SWAT game, and got pwned in Team Snipes. I miss those games so much - and it actually holds up way better than I previously thought.

The elegance of Team snipes in H2 > H3 team snipes any day, any time.

With sprint you need to constantly go back to jogging speed during the recharge periods that probably last a little while. The mongoose can keep on going fast indefinitely. Besides, the goose is fun as hell to just ride around with someone on the back, doing silly jumps and whatnot, that's enough reason to keep it.

I am pretty sure the goose will be back.

I mean just look at the terrain of reach and the weather effects in SP, who wouldn't want to kick up some fresh mud with the goose? :D

speaking of the mongoose, anyone think there will be vehicle specific AAs?

I think that is very doubtful. With this being the introduction of AAs, I think the last thing they want to do is clutter the area with too many of them because it really is just another balancing issue that they will have to worry about. With the information of AAs that they have given us it already sounds like something that is going to majorly change the game from the start of every match (and respawn).

It is really going to be interesting to see how people go about picking their loadouts, to see if they select based purely on starting weapon or if they select based on the AAs and still rely on picking up weapons.

True, but with the laser though, they should at least do something for the vehicles or its just going to be another massacre like Halo 3 was with the laser.

This will depend on weapon placement, now with there being other anti vehicle weapons I really don't think the laser will be on every vehicle heavy map like it was in H3.

Especially if the Pro Pipe (so far it sounds awesome and like it requires more skill than the laser) is in loadouts from time to time, players want to take out a vehicle it becomes a matter of selecting that loadout and being good with the weapon. I just don't think we will see the laser as much this time around.

That's what I was thinking. There is a host of ways to reduce the efficacy of the laser, and I'm hoping they're employed. I'd like to see it relegated to an anti-Scorpion weapon, for instance, but left off most vehicle maps. I think - hope - it's telling that we've never seen it in any screens or in the trailer.

Also with them changing the loadouts up for different gametypes and certain playlist, I really wouldn't be surprised if the laser is in far less playlist as well. I really just think it isn't going to be such a huge factor in MP this time around, there is so much more being introduced for players to use and have to deal with. I like. :D

"Basically unchanged."

There's a difference between reduced efficacy and leaving it out of the sandbox almost all the time.

Though I'd rather have a balanced laser I would take a MP environment where they left the unbalanced weapon off most of the maps and just used as a SP tool.

Right, the laser is basically unchanged. How and when it's deployed....TBD. It makes more sense as a weapon in campaign than MP.

We had the weapons listed on two of the four maps, no laser sighting yet.

It will be a very big problem if it is.

Agreed, so far the only sighting of the laser are from Tom Morello and that looked like something out of campaign, not multiplayer.

Why would this be a big problem? If it were the case, then maybe you could see some actual vehicular warfare instead of one team controlling laser and raping everyone on foot with vehicles.

I was saying if there was a laser on every big vehicular map like in Halo 3, I want to see some vehicular carnage that's why I was saying it would be a problem.

Those maps aren't the vehicles maps, though, so that doesn't really say or imply much. They may as well have been showing us the weapon layouts for Ghost Town or (default) Sandbox.

Domino Theory

Crystal Dynamics
"Blacklight: Tango Down"

You could not come up with a more generic, stupid title for a shooter.

Also, thanks to the East Coast, us West Coasters don't have to wait until 12:30 am Friday to get the Invasion footage, we can get it around 9:30-10pm Thursday. :D
