Stockpile

This is, "another 'party' gametype that is sort of like Territories meets with Capture the Flag." That is, both teams are racing to capture four neutral flags that spawn on the map and successfully return them to their respective (and active) capture points. Carroll elaborates, "Stockpile flags appear randomly throughout the map at pre-set flag-spawn points. Experienced players will learn the ten or so spots they can appear in the Beta maps, but they won?t be able to predict which ones will be used at any given time."

It's worth noting that points aren't scored instantly once you drop a flag down. You actually have to have the flag at your capture point once a timed countdown has passed. Carroll notes, "Every 60 seconds, any flag inside the capture point will be scored for that team -- even ones being carried by enemies!" He further describes the time breakdown as, "The clock is always running, so in a ten minute game, it scores ten times. So it's the bottom of every minute. [...] There's definitely an ebb-and-flow, and a real spike in intensity and an, 'oh my God get the flag over there' type of feeling." Bakken further points out the time pressure by noting, "If you see the other team holding three flags and there's 30 seconds left, you better start sending a couple dudes over to at least get them out of the capture point when the time runs out."
Sounds awesome.

It was included in the sample Load Out from a couple weeks ago.

For you traditionalists, there are modes and variants such as Slayer, King of the Hill, one-flag CTF, and three-plot Territories (a purposeful return to Halo 2-style Territories).

Between the return of proper Territories, the intimacy of Generator Defence, and the likely awesomeness of Headhunter/Stockpile, I can't really bring myself to care very much about Invasion, especially if it's an over-the-top, large-map (lag lag lag) vehicular frenzy. That's not my Halo, but I can understand why people are excited to find out what exactly it entails.

But really, though...

Three plots.

I was like... bone, bone, bone.

So people playing Halo 2 on the 14th:

  • Ajemsuhgao- GT: Ajemsuhga0
  • RdN- GT: Raiden BR
  • wwm0nkey- GT: wwm0nkey
  • -Yety - GT: RebornYeti
  • DiabolicalBagel - GT:DiabolicalBagel

A whole fourfive people on the list so far. :lol

EDIT: Updated.
Add me: Schmitty07

Okay glad to see three plots back, but I hope we didn't lose h3 one sided territories. Though, Gen defense sounds like it provides a similar experience, just with more awesome.

Stockpile just sounds great, I can't wait to try it. I have fond memories of 4 team ctf on foundation, and this sounds way better.

The game looks decent, but I expected more from a bungie game that is pushing the 360. Especially considering the screens are bullshots.

Edit:

Wow some pretty significant clipping of the AR right there.

Incidentally, don't G4TV have the full Invasion reveal this Friday? Is this the "gametypes" week, with two outlets possessing complementary information?

Gametypes specifically mentioned so far:

Gametypes | Slayer | Slayer Pro | King of the Hill | Capture the Flag | 1-Flag CTF | Territories | Three-Plots | Headhunter | Team Headhunter| Stockpile | Invasion | Generator Defense (Test)

What stands out in the new game types is that they all have dynamic elements. Generators move through locked and unlocked phases; the depositories in Headhunter move around and the indicators shift to point out skull-rich players; flag spawns move in Stockpile; weapons appear in cycles in Invasion and Generator Defense. It seems like an effort to give each gametype its own cadence, changing up the pace and map spread as the game progresses. I approve of this direction.

It's up early this week! :D

I'm a bit disappointed that Generator Defense mode is only 3v3. I was really looking forward to some large scale 6v6 or even 8v8 battles with that mode. IIRC, one of the Alpha/"Pre-Beta" leaked shots a few pages back said that there's two different player counts for NT1 - 3v3 and 6v6 - so maybe Bungie will bump up the player count a week or two into the beta.

Bakken continues, "This [mode] takes place exclusively on Overlook in the Beta. Defenders have the superior position at the top of a hill, with Attackers trying to claw their way up it." He then describes what happens when a match begins: "We call in a weapon drop where a Longsword flies over and drops off three random power weapons in different random locations on the map. Each weapon pod has a random chance of being a Spartan Laser, a Sniper rifle, or a Rocket Launcher. And those are evenly distributed around the map so that both Spartans and Elites have an equal access to them. So in the beginning, not only are the Spartans running to generators, but people are just running to get the power weapons

I said wow. This is a fucking awesomely unique way to put power weapons on a map. I hope there's possibly other modes that has this event going down, because using it solely for NT1, which could get the axe before the final game ships, would be such a shame..

Edit: Nevermind. I remembered incorrectly on the 6v6 leaked shot for NT1. It did say just 3v3... :(

Do you just keep that shit in the clipboard till new screens are released?

Definitely looking forward to some Halo 2 tonight. It's been so long since I've played...the sight of Terminal or Headlong may bring a tear to my eye.

Sweet baby Jesus,. is this new info hawt! Actual weapon drops, in MY Halos?

homerdrool.jpg

One thing that's cleverly left out; Armor Abilities and holding objectives like the flag or bomb. Do carrier traits cancel them out? Will we get an answer to this in this weeks BWU?

I have to say, I'm really at a loss on which gametype to try first.

This quote got me excited for the GTTV reveal of Invasion.
"[It's] packed to the gills with vehicle combat," says Carroll, who continues with, "It's really big -- nice and spacious to drive around in. A little bit bigger than Sandtrap even." Other scant details about Invasion are that it's a six-versus-six match, and as mentioned earlier while describing the Loadouts for Generator Defense, it seems to be a multi-stage affair that will utilize some heavy firearms during the end.

Sorry dude, but unlike some of the rabid fanboys around here, I can admit when I'm not impressed. It still looks good, but after all that hype bungie put us through about massively improving their tech and pushing the 360 I was expecting more.

I can still remember the halo 2 teaser in 2002 and the halo 2 e3 trailer in 2003 oh and don't forget the halo 3 trailer in 2007, every single time they claimed that's how the game was going to look.. yeah right. Now you can add the halo reach reveal at the vga's to that list. I love you bungie but ya need to stop hyping up your stuff so much.

Too bad these screens aren't taken from teasers or trailers

You basically decide to take a look at a couple of screenshots and just decide Bungie is going to disappoint. That doesn't really seem to be fair. It's still the Beta, it's still gameplay screenshots.

Wait for the beta and then you can complain like that

Anyone know the exact time the Halo 2 servers shut down? If it's midnight PST, then it's 8am GMT, and I'd contemplate getting up early to be there right to the end.

Otherwise I'll be playing from 9pm-midnight GMT, hopefully.

Fixed.

Which isn't to say I don't think it will look better than Halo 3, but you can't trust Bungie screenshots because of the way they're taken. The footage, on the other hand, looks great.

Good morning! Wow, so many screens where do I start? Loving the particle effects so far. Generator defense sounds like the BFBC of Halo, am I right in thinking that it's 3v3 and you can choose where you respawn?

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I can see a 'slot' that the AR is fitting in.

I don't think it is just clipping.

Edit: Nevermind, I am entirely incorrect.

What does Test mean? If the beta players dont like it, it'll be cutted out?

It's a gametype that was crafted specifically to test Bungie's netcode during the beta, hence why it's referred to as "Network Test 1" by the developers. And yes, IIRC, someone at Bungie said depending on how the community responds to the gametype, and no doubt some behind the scenes data/discussions, it may or may not make it into the final game.

It really does look like clipping to me to be honest. Could you point out this 'slot' in a different screen
