Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

I am wondering about how the respawn affects what loadout you choose. When the respawn timer hits 0, will the player spawn with whatever loadout was highlighted? Or will it be the case that the player selects it and either has to wait for the timer to hit 0 before he respawns or else he won't spawn until he picks one?

@nilam01: You also have to keep in mind that it is always going to be less noticable from the shooter's perspective. The trail looks a bit darker imo but still distinct enough to judge wha it was.

Its amazing to me how dated Halo 3 looks compared to Reach. During the episode when talking about the focus rifle they showed the sentinel beam being fired at a chopper on sand trap and it looked nothing like Reach at all. Maybe even more of a jump graphics wise from Halo 2 to 3. Insanity.

the footage was recorded from the theater/saved film and the camera spin was for dramatic effect. In-game it just pulls back into 3rd person.

The amazing thing is that the Reach shot is a blurry screencap of a downsampled video... and it still looks better than a supersampled still from Halo 3.
 
Enjoyed reading the speculation on Invasion. I'm a tad disappointed we didn't get official details from Bungie, but that speculation article sounds reasonable. Can't wait for the god damn beta! I have to get around to finishing Evolutions...

I think we will get more info on it soon, and we have 2 more weeks left till the beta, which means 2 more info reveals :D

Not that I'm aware of, just that it's a touch longer than the Halo 3 sniper rifle, which caused some meltdowns in HaloGAF. Looks fine from the footage. They did say that it's even more of an expert's weapon now than before, so you and I should avoid it like the plague. :lol

So the loadouts are basically Modern Warfare 2 style?

Including dozens of perk type armours?

They look incredible, I just hope they are balanced.

Im not suprised the Halo 3 Sniper broke some hearts, its so much harder to use than the Halo 2 Sniper - In Halo 2 anyone can lock down the map with the thing, in Halo 3 only a skilled player can do so.

That was a change for the better in my opinion, but I dont think making it harder to use will be a good thing, theres a hard to hit sweet spot with it being useless on one side of the spot and too easy to use on the other. Halo 3 nailed it in my opinion. Ive maybe Sniped people out of vehicles 10 times total since Halo 3's release. I was doing it all day on Halo 2. :lol

P.S. Speak for yourself about avoiding it like the plague, im always dissapointed when playing your maps and not seeing a Sniper anywhere :p

Cozmick, you get to choose starting weapon and ability CoD style but the armour customization is just visual

That's my all time biggest hate of the Halo multiplayer, well second to the auto-aim.

Uhhhh... this is Halo, some things will not be changed, it takes skill and some luck to no scope, it makes the game much better.

Either way the counter strike system leads to a much slower pace of game, something which I personally wouldnt like in Halo - If you can aim your cursor well you deserve to be rewarded for it. Counter Strike is more realistic, but in Halo your playing a super soldier, you arent a Spartan if you cant jump/ aim and trash talk at the same time :lol

Why all the hate for the close range sniper usage? I have always thought it lead to fun gameplay?

Well, maybe not the auto aim, but I agree with you there on the cursor. It would definitely help prevent the sniper rifle from being used in close combat (even though the sniper is a lot harder to use than the Halo 2 sniper, I've still seen the Halo 3 one used in close combat before and to a pretty effective degree - one of my friends can do it pretty efficiently).

If the auto aim could, perhaps, turn off with weapons meant for mid-long to long range when used at close range then I could agree with you there but turning off auto aim altogether would be a really bad thing.

There are three fireteams of two on each squad. I'll let you figure out the math. :)
 
Can you select your Loadout prior to spawning? If I find myself with a bit of time can I hit start and choose my loadout mid game so that when I die I can not have to worry about it? :p

How will loadouts work with really short respawn timers?

Yeah honestly if no scoping wasn't so fun, I wouldn't enjoy/play Halo as much as I do. I have faith Reach will be very well catered to both people who like No scoping/Donging with the BR as well as people who like to Fly around on jetpacks and spray that AR. I think most of this faith comes from the fact that L.M Smith has been somewhat involved in multiplayer design I just trust that dude to "invent fun".

Technically speaking Halo 3 uses an aim-assist, not an auto-aim. An auto-aim would be similar to what GTA IV uses.

Sorry to be that guy, but I'm bored :D

Anyway, with regards to the close-range sniping, it doesn't bother me too much in Halo. Mainly because sniper rifles are few and far between on the maps, and in Halo 3 they are a bit more difficult to use than they were in Halo 2. In Call of Duty that shit is out of control (although I have come across plenty of impressive shots) but since it's something that really makes Halo feel like Halo, I guess I'm just used to it.
