Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Hmm, I think I disagree with Dani's account of how Invasion works on Boneyard.

Edit: but I'm wrong. There are in fact three box territories (I found one I'd missed on "Refinery 2nd Floor"). DISREGARD. ABORT.

I appreciate this would be easier to decipher with helpful pictures like FUD has, so here are the three:

Where are the gifs people? Did you guys see that lighting/explosion in the sky that was awesome. I'm a bit dissapointed by the lack of AA, still looks as jaggy as halo 3
 
My impressions of the episode:
1. The shotgun looks so sweet. Can't wait to fire that baby.
2. As most of us suspected, new loadouts become available the further the game you are. This should make things really interesting.
3. The plasma repeater looks amazing. Damn. I'm already ready to call it better than the plasma rifle.:D
4. I LOVE the fact that your screen doesn't turn red, around the corners or otherwise, when you have low health. THANK YOU BUNGIE. <3
5. Invasion Slayer looks like it goes up to 100 kills.
6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like how long the Beta lasts is up to Bungie. They'll run it "as long as [they] need to run it."
7. The ghost looks awesome. Looks deadlier.
8. For Invasion: "Teammate waiting to respawn (enemy nearby)" So, if I'm not mistaken, you can choose your own spawn for Invasion and NT1? Nice.
9. Even the plasma pistol looks deadly. Bungie's bringing out all the stops.
10. Needler looks good too. Everything looks good.
11. Boneyard sounds like it'll be damn interesting to play on. Takes place on a decommissioned UNSC ship that's being taken apart? Do want.
12. Echoing everyone else, that Elite assassination with the sword is fucking awesome. My favorite assassination animation out of all the ones I've seen.
13. Aside from no new AR footage and they didn't delve too deeply into what exactly Invasion is, I'm not disappointed with this episode. Given that next week seems like it'll be the biggest reveal wise for the Beta, the new footage is enough to hold me over.

14. Did anyone else notice that there wasn't any mention of the Spartan Laser throughout the entire episode nor that it wasn't in any of the game footage?:D

Oh, and great write-up, Dani.

Edit: And the game looks way awesome. Watching the HD footage on GTTV, I didn't see the huge aliasing problem that was present in Halo 3. Almost everything looks pretty smooth.
 
Didn't spot the Phantom. Guess that makes it even more likely the circular territories in Invasion Slayer are supply drops. Maybe the tiers are unlocked solely by the time in the game? Or by the score? The only time we see a Tier Unlocked message in Invasion Slayer, if I'm right, is near the beginning of the footage, where the score is conveniently at 50-38. Maybe things kick up to tier 2 at 25 kills and tier 3 at 50 kills, with 100 to win?

I have no clue about Covenant A/B/C, though.

Edit: Nope, we see another Invasion Slayer Tier Unlocked message at 4.59 in the downloadable video. It's Tier 2. The score is 25-24.

Have I guessed right? The ramping tiers correspond to the rising score?

Glad everyone is digging what they're seeing. We never know how these things will turn out considering we do about 2 hours of interviews and provide 10 full minutes of footage that gets cut down to a few minute segment.

You definitely will not have to wait until Friday for more info. Next week is a busy week, least of which is the media embargo lifting on Tuesday for impressions and screens.

You know, you could probably just show us those 10 full undoctored minutes next time. I wouldn't mind. :D

hey guys, where are the people getting the latest videos of the game from? I checked GTTV but there was only a promo trailer.

edit : hmm I think I suck, seems to be tons of stuff on GT, maybe I just hadnt refreshed the site in a while , ah well
 
Since it's unlikely people read my long-ass, pictureless posts:

See screencaps below: the tiers in Invasion Slayer likely unlock as the score rises. Tier 2 unlocks when the highest score has reached 25, and Tier 3 unlocks when the highest score has reached 50. That means "half" the game will be played at the most chaotic and "heavy" level, although I would expect the speed at which the score ramps up increases as power weapons and vehicles come into play.

I know it's just one of the blurry leaked pictures, so no way to know for sure. Regardless though, they were mainly focusing on the new stuff in reach, so it's not to surprising they didn't spend time talking a lot about old weapons.

Current implementation for the beta is to pick your battle bro in the lobby. You use the regular team toggle but you get sub-colors/options - Spartan A, Spartan B, Spartan C. same for Elites. Three 2-man fire teams per side.

Thank you for the speedy response! That was the only question I had which could be answered without going into incredible detail about invasion. Most of those othet questions will, I imagine, be answered next week. If not, I'll save it for BWU fodder for urk.

That sounds really wrong :lol

After playing a shitload of Halo 2 and playing MW2 for a few months, you're probably still 10x better at Halo 3 than me any way. Probably not this weekend, but the next two weekends I'll start playing Halo 3 again fo' sure again.

That is exactly what I thought. The looks on all of the faces of the guys being interviewed were like, "uh... we're trying to tell you about our game and you keep asking us stupid, and irrelevant questions to be funny." I thought I could see the look of "are you serious?" especially on Chris Carney's face, when asked why the armor abilities were more advanced even though Reach is from an earlier time.

I'm so glad you roll in first person too. For some reason, I was under the impression it was in third person, which would be really weird doing it over and over.

I just noticed you can throw plasmas while charging the plasma pistol. At one point in the video an elite is charging a plasma pistol, throws a plasma grenade, and his plasma pistol is still charged.

It's more so they can balance the load outs for the maps/game types.

Spawning near team mates is really going to change the flow of the game. Instead of spawning back at base, you could be spawning close to where the front lines are. Time between firefights is going to be much shorter.

Edit: in the HD footage, when the Ghost is zipping around, he's getting a message that a team mate is trying to spawn near him. So no need to yell at someone to get into a safe place. Nice.

That makes sense. Although I saw those shield in certain maps (perhaps all of them) and I thought each base had a shield that only teammates of that base could go to. So I was assuming that if you couldn't spawn near any teammates, you could spawn inside of the base and be safe from attack thanks to the shield.

Then I thought that it may not make sense because that would have to be there for every map.
 
Im really feeling Invasion. Thats gonna be my gametype i can feel it. Im curious about Generator Defence too, but with that 3 on 3 cap, it sounds more frustrating than fun.

Yes that's what I was talking about, the skyboxes look absolutely amazing!

Perhaps you haven't played enough MW2 then :p My point is, there is a grea class based game already out there that Bungie don't need to replicate.

He actually got 3 shots with the sniper off pretty fast there.

The frags don't really seem that much stronger.

At one point in the video i think a frag explodes right under a ghost and it does almost nothing to it in terms of damage.

Though another interesting thing is that that same footage shows how little the ghost moved from the explosion. Maybe they toned down how far you get pushed from grenade explosion in vehicles?

I just played a game of Throwback and I couldnt control it, Bumper Jumper is better than defualt but after playing Halo 2 so much im like a retard. :lol

Luckily the entire enemy team quit otherwise I would have got trounced, I did get a message after the game accusing me of booting them though, so I have to ask, have people figured out how to boot people in this game?

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I'm really loving how every animation and gun just looks (and must feel) so solid and powerful.
