Wow. The sheer volume of stuff Bungie is putting into this game is insane. If Firefight is in there as well, it's gonna be a case of "where do I start?"
Can't wait.

The Goal in Invasion Attack and Defense is to protect the Core. The attackers are the elites and the Spartans are the protectors. Cant wait to play it :)

Was hoping there'd be a Spartan vs Elite death match :( Perhaps there is still hope outside Invasion?

Just got to watch the GTTV episode. Damn son, invasion looks like so much fun. Halo BTB fun on crack! Game is looking sexy too. Some of the effects are giving me an eyegasm :D

I can't even imagine how happy Ghaleon is with Invasion.

I also like how invested he is in these games: he took the time to describe the new spawning system in another post, instead of just saying "it's like Battlefield", which are games he has probably never even glanced at.

That's true love.

Seems highly likely Firefight will appear in some form, since whenever they've been asked about it they've smirked and said they're not known for removing features from previous games.

this actualy looks fucking great.

In terms of multi player, Halo is extremely good imo.
So i'm looking forward to it. Looks great so far.

i'm also curious about the single player, but i was never a fan of it so far (hlao3 wasn't good imo)

We haven't even had a Reach Media blowout yet, with everything we've come to find out about the game so far, it gets me to wondering...

Imagine the reaction if come release day, someone picked up their copy and brought it home and started playing it, after putting themselves through a complete media blackout after the VGA Reveal Trailer?

I'd probably have some sort of heart attack after experiencing the sheer amount of new and awesomeness all at once.

So this is why Bungie is slowly trickling out details... :) Thx Bungie, my heart thanks you.

As much as I love BTB objective it seems like Invasion may be a little bit too goofy for me. Loadouts that start with shotguns, swords, grenade launchers and almost all with 3 grenades (Sage said they were more powerful but less common, does that still stand?) seems like it could be pretty sloppy. Reminiscent of Halo 3's Heavies game mode where power weapons litter the map and vehicles are disposable death traps. Hope there are more traditional BTB offerings when the final game launches.

And I know they mention "a bro" you can spawn on but in the invasion clips it seemed like it was groups of 3 because two teammate's would be highlighted on the HUD even though they weren't holding or completing any objectives. I figure they were displayed there to give you a better idea of where your squad was at all times. A little hesitant about spawning on players, at least the necessity of being out of combat and far away from the enemy alleviates some of the problems other games with such spawning systems have.

Just watched the GTTV footage. The fact you can save your team-mate from being assassinated is awesome news.

It is all looking too awesome. Only a few weeks left!

Its works really well in Bad Company 2, just as long as you're sensible about when you spawn. I am guessing Reach is making sure you're free of enemies before you spawn so they can stop you getting insta-gibbed when you spawn on a squad-mate.

It will really make those pushes forward much easier to do and will also foster a team dynamic for Halo. I like the fact that it encourages you to work in squads and not as some lone bad-ass soldier.

I saw a montage with it once!

No seriously pulling off rambo stuff like that is why I play Halo, but theres still plenty of good stuff.

I really just wanna play the Beta to try these new tweaks out just to see how it plays - the GTTV footage looked crazy and the game will be a lot of fun regardless. Was it just me or did Geoff Keighley seem to have no chemistry with any of the Bungie guy's what so ever :lol Someone really should Gif the "Spawn with your elite buddy's bro" part.

How is not being able to use armor abilities while carrying the flag any different than not being able to drive a Ghost or Hog while carrying the flag?

In the final game, you can create customs that allow flag carries to use abilities or drive vehicles if you so desire. Who knows, maybe that kind of gametype would take off online as well. (oh wait, that assumes the masses would even pick objective gametypes to play)

Bummer I couldn't scoop Urk today. Busy day. I did sneak a few new screenshots to Urk for the BWU though - along with 1.1GB of assets for next week's media embargo lifting.

Next week should be pretty crazy... a multimedia blow-out.

Edit: OMG check out Nobleactual.com - Tung just dropped a lil Friday treat.

Just so you know, I loved taking the flag in a ghost, but I will admit what I want isnt exactly whats good for the game. :lol

I have trust in you guys, I was just saying the Rambo'ness seems to be gone, which makes me sad.

Anyway back onto current topics, that Stealth blade the elites have looks amazing, those assassinations looks BRUTAL. Is it just me or does that look like a very fast tank?

It looks like theyre speeding up the pace of the game, which would be amazing in my opinion!

I said I was afraid of this even before we knew what it was, and I sort of stand by it. Obviously I'll try it (and enjoy it), but I seriously doubt it's going to be my favourite flavour of Reach when you consider what else is on offer.

Man, Spartans look tiny sitting in a Ghost now.

Can anyone explain the difference between regular ol' Invasion and Invasion Slayer? I don't really grasp how the latter works. Unless Invasion Slayer is Invasion.

Edit: also, this spawn system seems pretty nuanced. Just spotted "Teammate waiting to respawn (hazardous projectiles)" when a plasma has been thrown near the player.

Invasion: The elites want the human core. Spartans must defend it.
Invasion Slayer: Normal slayer with Spartans and Elites.

The Elites are supposed to be a lot more powerful than Humans, I guess theyre disadvantaged in terms of having to actually disable cores to win in Invasion (While theyre disabling the cores the Humans have the chance to kill em).

In straight up slayer wouldnt the Elites be overpowered?

Right, but the sides are difficult to balance. Is it played over two rounds, with people taking turns at being the Elites? If not, are people going to bitch about being forced to be one side or the other, especially if there's an imbalance? Is the entire map open from the start, and are all load-outs and abilities open from the start? Or are the tiers unlocking tied to the score somehow?

Dude, you're making my brain hurt... so many questions un-answered. I demnad answers Bungie!

The GTtv reveal was good, but I was hoping more for actual gameplay... A montage of clips smashed together with no real explanation of what was going on in the game made it very hard to appreciate it.

Looks great, but I cannot wait for the first actual gameplay video, should be good.

Any idea on when the next info reveal will be? Usually the WU clears up any reveals that we get during the week, but the timing on the GTtv exclusive doesn't really make that possible.

Just occurred to me that having to censor all the four-digit/letter callsign permutations people are going to come up with will be nightmarish. And you thought A55 and P00 were bad.

(This was prompted by seeing "00PS" appear in the new footage.)

Edit: also, can someone explain why near the end of the footage we see a scorpion entering a "hill" out in the open that then turns green?

I'd love to sit here all day and keep watching the footage over and over. The game looks better than I expected.

It certainly looks even better in motion, I hope we get some 3d turntables soon like they did with Halo 3, those were awesome.

Okay, this only seems to happen during Invasion Slayer. There are "hills" that turn green or purple depending on who is holding them, Spartans or Elites. They don't seem to appear in regular Invasion (which instead has the designated "assault" points you have to reach [and activate somehow] to unlock the next section of the map and the next tier of abilities and loadouts).

These hills also have a countdown on them, which seems to be activated by people being in them. The slayer score does not seem to go up in tandem with these numbers going down, so they aren't working like regular hills. Initially, the icon is just an arrow pointing down, like a territory or something, but once the hill is "drained"/controlled long enough, it changes to a parachute drop icon with another countdown (this time from 15), and "Territory Captured" pops up. Longsword/phantom inbound?

The name of the game is still Slayer, of course: this is about kills. The map is probably open from the start, and it's basically BTB but with controllable supply drops, which maybe unlock the tiers?

I see that you've never watched GTTV before. And yes, I agree. The show is frustrating and terrible at times.

That's the way GTTV operates. And I hate it. You never really get a good picture of a game when they're showing these five seconds long clips clapped together like a music video.

Of course, this still doesn't answer my question of whether Invasion Slayer is played in rounds (the lengthy game timer suggests not). It seems like the best way to make the game fair and fun for all is to have everyone have one "turn" each at being Spartans or Elites, similar to regular Invasion... but I can't see how that is done within the mechanics of a Slayer gametype.

Footage was pure win. The animation especially is what got me jizzing. It seems Sage was right that despite the actual speed being slower than Halo 3, the size and fov makes it look fast. Loving that aspect of the footage.

As far as the update, some good info but I didn't like the removal of flag juggling. It did not harm game play at all, and the announcer was the only thing I thought should be taken out (doesn't bother me, but it does for others which is understandable). It's going to be a pain to score a flag now especially against the highly skillful players. In Halo 3, scoring a flag on Pit, Narrows, etc... without juggling is near impossible in MLG 45+ levels. Hopefully, the speed while carrying the flag is at Halo 2 levels so there would be no point in juggling.

Also cool: the vehicles spawn behind shields that are presumably team-restricted, so they can't be blown up on spawn, and you can deliberate for a second in safety about what's best to roll out in.

Some real nice info about Reach, I like how in the 3rd part on the screen behind you can see someone floating along with the jump pack, not just doing a super jump but burst using it to float.

Same here, i liked the crazy action but i wouldve liked to see some more consistent gameplay to get a better idea. i wouldve also liked to see characters in cool lighting and see the camera rotate around them and zoom in just to show off awesome details and lighting.

I would also like to see a ViDoc already!!!! It would be cool to see a tech ViDoc in the future where they just highlight the new graphical features and nuances in reach.

GT always posts the gameplay videos separately a bit later. Hopefully this is the case this time as well.

Post Invasion Debut Speculation

Spent about five hours going through yesterday's footage to see what I could find. I'm sure I missed some things and maybe got a few things wrong, but it's fun to speculate I guess. =)
Awesome job Dani, I was going through the video taking screen-shots and preparing to comment on a few things I noticed. Then I cam here to see that you've basically hit on every point I was going to make, and then some!

Thank you for making sense of Invasion for me.

Thanks for the kind words dude. I stayed up well past my bed time trying to make some sense of it all. Guess I was abit impatient to wait for the next weekly update.

Thank you Dani for filling that void of clarity left by Voc and Cop. This article made last night's rather unclear interview/reveal easier to understand. The phase based nature of Invasion seems fucking awesome and hopefully will sspark a fire of interest in Objective-based gameplay
