HaloGAF at PAX: Meetup planning and more.

Haven't played Halo (or xbox for that matter) in over six months... Cannot wait to get my little hands on H4 at PAX. Hopefully this will get me back into console gaming and pull me away from that money/time void that is LoL

edit: lawl - this isn't the general discussion thread at all... wtf am I doing here.

Well to put this on topic. I am down for Breakfast for sure and any dinner we can work out and get planned properly. Also here is a token piece of advice for all you wondering what to do for lunch each day at PAX.

Chipotle

Google it, live it, love it.

It's incredible and will melt your mind.

Chipotle is bad and y'all should feel bad for eating it.

Related: can't believe I'll be in Seattle in less than 48 hours! Aaahhh!

Somehow I had Chipotle for the very first time at PAX last year in Seattle, even though Omaha has 5 of them. It was pretty good, but it's very much a burrito. They're kind of hard to fuck up.

Yep! We have the following reservations:

Thursday night, 7:00 pm - Cutters Crabhouse - Map

Saturday morning, 8:30 am - Athenian Inn - Map

Both restaruants are located around the Pike Street Fish Market.

We should have plenty of seats saved, so anyone that wants to come is welcome.

I've got all the dinners and breakfasts in this schedule, right? I think I do.

On the contrary, I haven't had a proper Burrito since I moved out of San Francisco. If you want good Mexican in Seattle, it isn't going to be a Burrito and the only totally 100% always awesome place is La Carta De Oaxaca. In Ballard, so kind of a cab ride out there. Also the Little Water Cantina and Agua Verde are decent and have great lake views and margaritas.

For Sushi, there are two main options. First, for ballers, is Shiro's. It was already the best Sushi place in Seattle but the apprentice from Jiro's Dream of Sushi just started there, so now there's no fucking around. Hands down. I haven't even had Sushi this good in Tokyo. And you have to eat at the bar and order Omakase, no matter what they try to tell you, do NOT sit at a table. JUST THE BAR. And eat the shrimp heads. Even if you think you won't like them, you are wrong.

If you are broke, this place is incredible cheap/good, but it's a pure value proposition - there are other ways to balance out those qualities.

Musashi's:

If you're in the mood for a bowl of Ramen, then Samurai and Aloha are your best bets:

http://samurainoodle.com/home.html

http://www.yelp.com/biz/aloha-ramen-seattle

The latter is TINY and has NO BEER WTF but is a bit better IMO, but pretty far away from the city center.

If you want to do Karaoke, Rock Box works BUT IS INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE AND BUSY and for this crew I do not reccomend it unless you have a high roller. So try either:

http://sbkaraoke.com/ (REMEMBER TO BUY BOOZE AND A BANQUET PERMIT FIRST) or head out for a more public display to Magnolia's BoxCar - not that far in a cab. Like, ten minutes from the waterfront.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/boxcar-ale-house-seattle

And is easier to deal with and has food, but you'll be competing with every drama queen and butt-rocker in Magnolia for stage time so remember to VISIBLY TIP THE KARAOKE ASSHOLE.

If you're a foodie, Seattle is ridiculous and amazingly varied, but I think there are a few touristy things worth trying too - Grilled Cheese Sandwich from Beecher's at the Pike Place market, a sandwich from Salumi and that reminds me:

THE BEST SANDWICH IN ALL OF AMERICA at Paseo. INSIDER TIP - there is a line stretching for miles that you can ignore if you call in your order ahead. They will give you an estimate and you roll right in, pay and walk away with THE BEST SANDWICH IN AMERICA.

I know at least three Cubans who straight up admit it's better than anything in actual Cuba or Miami.

For drinking and being chill? I like Smith or Liberty's in Capital Hill which are both "fancy", or if you want weird Pinball divey with the DISTINCT possibility of a bumfight, then Shorty's or Grizzled Wizard (which has a MAME coin-op).

Also don't ignore Cheescake Factory which is an awful affront to society but can seat huge parties quickly, is directly opposite the convention and has a menu with literally every type of food on it.

I will try and make it for dinner, but I have plans to meet-up with Max and I am not sure when I'll be done with that. Assuming we have time I will head over for sure to meet up with all you sexy bitches.

As you guys know, I am German. And everyone likes our candy. Do not lie to me. You like Haribo. Tomorrow I am going to shop. I'll shop a lot. But you have still time to pm me wishes. Do you want to eat fakes arses with ears? Okay. You will. They are selling that stuff her. Just pm me or post in this thread.

Long post
Next year I have to stay a whole week...

Awesome, thanks Frank.

I also added Salumi, based on seeing it on No Reservations. It's the place owned by Mario Batali's father. Italian cured meats/sandwiches.

Ninja Edit: I see you covered Salumi.

I can tell you right now that it's pretty much the same story for me since leaving Omaha and being in Vancouver. It's like people generally have an idea of what Mexican food is up here, but the lack of a significant amount of actual Mexicans leaves it.. lacking. The first full day I get back to Omaha after PAX, I know the first restaurant I'm hitting up, and it's the one where none of the menu or signage is in English.

Thanks, Frank.
Franks.

I'll probably stay close to the convention center during the three PAX days, but I still have all day Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday to explore Seattle's wide selection of sandwich dispensaries and bumfight venues. Looking forward to it.

The party room can EASILY clock in at $2grand with tips and drinks.

If you don't think that's a lot, then good luck to you.

I spent that kind of cash on my pet dog fluffy.

Can that somehow fit into 343's marketing budget? Somehow? You're throwing an awesome Halo 4 party for some of your core fans.

:p

Kidding, of course.

I'm so good at karaoke, people pay ME two thousand dollars to sing.

Or was it two thousand credits? Whatever currency Rock Band uses.

Just asking: Who's arriving Thursday noon? I am but Barrow Roll is going to be in Seattle around 4pm-5pm. I have to buy some stuff at the Grocery store(deodorant, toothpaste etc.), so I wanted to ask if I could storage my baggage for 1-2 hours at some others GAFfers place. Or nevermind. The airport should offer the most articles I need.

The bell desk or whatever at the hotels will hold your bags even before you check in
