Handheld game lists: DS~293, PSP~252

jarrod

Banned
DS is closing in on 300 games announced in less than a year on market. The last system to do that was GBA or PS2 I think... PSP's not doing too bad either actually, but it can't seem to close that 40-50 game gap.

Only confirmed releases with a set publisher (in any region) counted. US releases bolded. Let me know if anything's missing...

The lineups are both getting rather big already, its nice to see the list of themall but comparing them is getting rather dull.

Both have a huge amount of games coming, and then personal preference comes into play.

I've been meaning to ask...

I'm very interested in Dawn of Sorrow for the DS, but I'm concerned about the rest of the lineup. I keep hearing how amazing the Japanese lineup is, though. Which games are really worth checking out? The current US lineup does nothing for me (except for Kirby, which rocks), but there seems to be a large number of great games in Japan.

Anyone care to point out the titles worth checking out?

Potential...

Ouendan (Japan) - I'm very interested in this, actually. Looks like a blast.

Jump! Super Stars (Japan) - Mild interest. I don't care for Smash Bros., but I am a fan of most of those manga/animes present in that game (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece...). Perhaps I'll take a look

Ganbare Goemon (Japan) - Is this actually good? I've heard it wasn't so hot. They were pimping this game hardcore on TV when I was in Japan, though, but it's not as if that means anything.

Meteos - Probably give it a shot, but the fast pace is kind of a turn off...

Kirby: Canvas Curse - Awesome

What else ya got? :p

Asphalt 2 was anounced for N-Gage.

Looking at how the DS version of the first one sold, id say that there is a 100% chance of the sequal hitting DS.

use gamerankings as a benchmark

it's not too absurd considering the point of these lists is to invoke fanboy wars!

Agreed. I'd say there's really something for everybody in both lineups.

Not really, DS has maintained roughly a 40-50 game lead since October. I though PSP would've closed the gap around E3, but there was a stunning lack of new announcemtns for both machines. :/

Thanks for the fixes. Sony was billing both as "non-games" though I thought (with Fukufuku being something of an Animal Crossing take-off)?

The initial numbers are very skewed--as counting imports and "promised games" is not putting content in the hands of the American gamer.

As it stands, PSP has more game content, and more worthwhile game content than the DS.

I don't really see an issue posting a global lineup for a global machine on a a global forum. Gaming-Age Forum isn't US centric, so I don't see why these lists should be then? You can always count the bolded titles if you'd like those figures.

I also don't see an issue with "promised games", that's basically the intent to put content in the hands of American gamers. Hell, PS2 sold it's first year on almost intent alone.

Wait a sec, the Konami football game is an ISS title? When did this happen? Don't toy with my emotions like that, I still play ISS 98 on a regular basis and an updated version with a better framerate and internet play would force me into marrying my DS.

Both ISS and WE are evidently coming. ISS was leaked by EU retail though, Konami Japan hasn't confirmed it yet.

Oh and lists updated. One more game and DS breaks 300 total. Amazing that in less than a year on market and this machine already has more games announced than N64 had over it's entire lifespan. :)

Super side note...

I was just at my local Wal-Mart and noticed that the DS game selection was pathetically displayed - six titles strewn across a shelf. This made me curious as to what the PSP selection looked like, so I walked three feet down the aisle to the gigantic PSP display with 30-40 titles clearly visible.

This is when things got confusing -- all the titles shown were movies. No games.

I managed to find ANOTHER PSP display case, this one consisting of another 30 or so titles... three games visible (Death Jr., Hot Shots, and something else) and the rest being movies.

This all seemed rather amusing.

Ok. So I noticed how first party games there's 45 for Nintendo and 44 for Sony. What are first party games for Sony? I thought Nintendo was a much bigger games developer with more in-house development teams than Sony.

Not really. Nintendo's certainly larger than SCEI Japan, but worldwide SCEI has a lot more western development to balance that.

Invested developers, sure. Nintendo does work with lots of 3rd parties on their own games though in Japan especially... Camelot, Aki, iNiS, Treasure, Eighting, Namco, Konami, Capcom, Flagship, Paon, Chunsoft, etc.
