That last fucking shot.

"Have you ever seen blood in the moonlight Will? It appears quite black."

For those unaware, the second half of Hannibal Season 3 is dedicated to Will's pursuit of Francis Dolarhyde aka the Tooth Fairy aka the Red Dragon aka Richard Armitage. From IGN (slight spoilers for conclusion of first half of S3):

Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) plays Francis Dolarhyde, who becomes an infamous serial killer dubbed "The Tooth Fairy" by the tabloid press. According to Fuller, Will sees Dolarhyde as a stand-in for Hannibal whom he can actually save, while Hannibal sees him as a stand-in for Will whom he can corrupt.

The Dolarhyde story will take place three years after the events that kicked off Season 3. Will is married and no longer an FBI agent, but his retreat from that life into domestic bliss will be short-lived. Fuller also stated that Dolarhyde's attacks will be portrayed more exclusively as attacks on the family unit, reiterating his previously stated desire not to tell rape stories.

The trailer also showed glimpses of Gillian Anderson's Bedelia and the return of her tortured patient portrayed by Zachary Quinto.

Fuller also revealed that the season finale will feature an "epic" song penned for the show by Siouxsie Sioux from Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Cannot. Wait. Armitage appears to be perfect for the role so far. Apparently, like Mads, he has a dance/physical performance background, which should make his "transformation" something else.

So so so fucking pumped for this. Not so fucking pumped that NBC moved Hannibal over to Saturday nights.

Quick question:

Since they're canceling Hannibal, would it still be worth it to start watching it?

Yes, especially given that they are looking at the possibility of doing a movie if another season can't be funded.

At CC, Fuller said Netflix passed because Amazon has streaming rights, and Amazon passed because they wanted to start S4 fast--too fast for Fuller to write satisfactory scripts. He says everyone involved (cast and crew) still would love to do another season.

Oh yeah, it's a really great show (haven't loved season 3 so far as much as 1+2, but it's still really good).
They could have canceled it last season and even with its cliffhanger ending I would have been completely satisfied.

And if you want more Hannibal story you can always go watch/rewatch Silence of the Lambs since chronologically I think it takes place after where season 3 will end.

Absolutely. The first two seasons are streaming on Amazon Prime, and they're both more or less self-contained arcs that I've enjoyed more than any of the films. The central characters of Will and Hannibal--and the actors who portray them--are extremely well-drawn, and the show's cinematography is better than anything else I've seen on television (and film, for that matter).

Ignore the hyperbole, but it's a really, really good series--hopefully they resolve everything at the end of this season so we get a sense of finality now that it looks like the show's finished--but it sure looks like they're going out in style.

This seems a million times more interesting than the first couple of episodes of season 3.

I'm itching to know what happens during the scene in Episode 12 that made the crew gasp in collective horror.

Gore-hounds (and gore-phobes) should look out for episodes seven and twelve in particular – those are where Fuller hints that the "freakiest stuff" lies.

One scene in episode twelve involving Dolarhyde was so intense that it drew gasps from the crew during filming.

"It's one bit in particular that's from the books, and we see it probably more graphically on our show than you have in any of the movies.

"When we did that scene, you're supposed to be silent when you're watching, but the entire crew gasped and shrieked. So you're watching the dailies and you're seeing this horrible thing happen, and you just hear all these gasps coming from behind the camera, and it's so much fun! It's so disturbing that it affected the crew."

Keep your whining out of this thread.

Just kidding, I have been looking forward to this part of the season most, even before S3 premiered. This looks to be more in-line with what we expect from the series, even if I am enjoying S3 still.

Almost forgot about this. Is there anything in Red Dragon that points to what this could be? I don't remember too many super gross-out moments near the end.

not gonna lie. m hype is totally deflated since the cancelation and im behind a few eps now :/

Our tax dollars.

I hope someone, maybe Jack, mentions the cell. I won't care if they don't as I'm hyped for RD, but it would be a nice.

Chilton still thirsting for Lecter's brain.

I can believe it. I hope we see a lot more of him. Lingering/creeping in the background as all the characters come to talk to Hannibal, scenes where he tortures Hannibal with the TV like we see in Silence.

It's not just you--it feels like the OT is a little deflated, overall. I don't even think anyone has been posting the spoiler-ish stills from the next episode that NBC release, like usual.

I was trying to get excited over the weekend posting about the Comic Con panel coming, but all of a sudden all these Negative Nancy's descended on the thread and ruined the vibe :p

I'm fine with the series ending on Red Dragon. If it happens, it happens. I'm sure Fuller knew this was a huge possibility and there's be some semblance of closure as the season ends. Still hype as fuck to see his vision of Red Dragon play out.

if it ends like s2 did, i will hunt you down Bryan

My guess is
Dolarhyde chewing the lips off Freddie Lounds

That could be it. Sounds like it's going to be very faithful to the book until the climax, so I could also see them doing some really nasty macro/slow-mo stuff if/when
they do the flaming wheelchair thing for real this time.

If we're talking episode 12, that's actually pretty late in the game for
Freddie Lounds
stuff to happen though. That seems like it would be closer to the midpoint of the arc. Might be related to
Francis killing the guy he thinks Reba is having an affair with, and then fake shooting himself with a shotgun. Think of slow mo skull and brains hitting Reba in the face.

Oh wow. Marilyn Manson is a big fan of the show. Would have been cool if he did something too.

God no.

Yeah, I was thinking that myself, but stuff might get shifted/switched around a little in the telling. Plus, I'm trying to envision what kind of shot they need to get that would involve the crew being quiet, and
Dolarhyde leaning in and pulling Lound's lips off with those dentures in close up
feels more in line with the scenario Fuller's describing in that anecdote.

i don't remember... it ever explained (in the movie) why Hannibal has a Phone in his cell?

is doesn't make sense at all, even less when in season 2 tried to "execute" Will for being Hannibal

EDIT: HYPE anyways

I agree with this, it seems like it would be too late in the season for the former. Who knows what Fuller and crew are going to do though.

Too little, too late. I can't believe that the series spent so long focusing on throwaway killers like The Minnesota Shrike and Abel Gideon instead of main events like Dolarhyde.

There's a part of me that's incredibly disappointed that we won't see Clarice in this version of events but it also feels like a lot of potential material that focused on her relationship with Lecter has already been shifted to quivering little Will. What could they possibly do with her to avoid retreading old ground at this stage anyway?

I do believe you've lost me.

It's kinda weird that your complaints are all regarding season 1 villains. Strange to complain about it in a season 3 thread...and that's ignoring the almost universal acclaim that season 2 received.

The time spent on them in the first series has been wasted, while the programme has now been cancelled when it's on the cusp of something much more interesting.

I thought Eddie Izzard was pretty wonderful but OK.
