if you say "twenty" ten, welcome! you've made it to the future!

if you say "thousand" ten, maintain the status quo.

I will call specific years "20-10", "20-15" etc.

But overall, these are the "10's" to me...it's been long enough, the 19-10's weren't that important anyways....:D

New Year's on the east coast baby! It's now 2010 for most of the world. Happy New Year's everyone! Let's all make this a decade to remember! FUCK YEAH!

Happy New Years from the Peach state! Whooooooooooooooooo!

Damn channel I was watching decided Georgia wasn't important, so I missed the Peach drop. :(

When I was a kid, I wished my grandparents would live into the next decade. There was something about them seeing the new millennium/century with the rest of us that was neat to me, considering my grandma grew up at a time when there were very few commercial planes in the sky. My grandfather died of throat cancer in 1998, but my remaining three grandparents made it to 2000 and beyond. Almost five years ago, my dad's dad died of cancer as well. Now it's almost 2010, and a full decade has passed. My mom's mom, who is still fascinated that planes can stay in the air, is almost 86 years old. My dad's mom is 82. I think this will be the last time that generation in my family makes it to another decade.

On the plus side, this next decade should be pretty good. On a personal and general level, this last decade was an overall crap shoot. The 10s can't possibly be as bad as the 00s, right?
All four of my grandparents passed away in the past decade. :(

But as for the upcoming decade, it will be an important one, coming into adulthood and all that entails for me, so it will be...interesting, to say the least when it comes to how it will all play out in the decade to come.

What's the name of the song that's always played on new years day? They played it when the ball dropped on CNN

let's look back on 2000-2009

-a guy literally stole the presidency, then ignored warning signs of a terrorist attack which ended up claiming the lives of thousands of people in new york and washington and destroying national landmarks, then he used the resulting nationalist solidarity to lie to the world that a country which insulted his daddy was responsible and had super-doomsday weapons (both of these things were deliberate lies), everybody on the planet bought it because the country was run by a meanie, so we ended up going into war where thousands more americans died and literally hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed when the country collapsed into chaos, gave billions of dollars in contracts to contractors who robbed the treasury blind then supplied the army with busted cheapo equipment, then he approved it when we captured, imprisoned without charges, and literally tortured untold amounts people in secret cia prisons across the world (seriously, this actually happened, it really happened you guys and nobody was punished for it, holy shit), ordered the spying on americans.

this all actually happened, we honest-to-god were being lead by an illegal official who is literally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people around the world and turned america into a laughing stock and even more hated monster around the world, and then we re-elected him because he promised to take away rights from gay people and said that anyone who didn't agree with him was against freedom, holy shit you guys, this honestly took up 8 years of the last decade, that all really happened, ahahahaha if it weren't such a horrific human tragedy of an incomprehensible magnitude it would almost be funny how absurdly evil it all was.

these were the horrible things which defined the last decade. ahaha wow it sucked.

oh and sega went bankrupt and dropped out of console-making. so things weren't all bad, i guess.

Pretty much.

i almost forgot

a hurricane destroyed the homes of thousands of poor people in new orleans, a tsunami killed over two hundred thousand people in southeast asia, the global economy nearly collapsed into a second great depression, radical evangelicalism swept america by storm, and the west's nosedive into cultural death accelerated at an alarming rate as what few remaining vestiges of popular art and creativity in the first world became the exclusive property of monolithic corporate interests who convinced us that a few dozen grams or a handful of millimeters made or broke a piece of electronics, that we should watch "regular people" in "real" situations that were totally fake, and that extra-filtered tap water was a premium luxury item that can be used as a fashion accessory.

this was the last decade.
