Whatever is the opposite if English.

My major was a cakewalk.

Edit: I just realized that all the science majors are on the wrong track, sure their majors require abstract thought, but the real answer is Law. There's so much competition in that field that the good programs are punishing and the bar is fucking insane in California and New York.

Science has logic. Law has none of such and is therefore a million times harder to grasp.

The California bar is beyond insane. 3 days of punishing testing over a set of material so diverse that you have a pile of books to sift through. I've talked to many who've taken and passed the Cali bar, and fortunately I don't have to deal with it :)

Yes, how fortunate for you. ;P

One year away for me (about an 80% chance I'll go to CA, otherwise it's NY).

Just a few observations:

Law & Medicine are more like professional educations, only with insane amounts of stuff to absorb. Oh and you can't make mistakes. Not during your study and certainly not when doing your job.

Of the Science Majors, most are somehow derived from maths/physics. Those two are also probably the hardest from what I've seen. I know little about Chemical though. I'd say that the level of abstraction is closely related to the difficulty of the study.

The Arts (as in Music, Architecture, non-native languages) require a good deal of talent and if you're a Salieri, a gruelling amount of dedication, so it really depends.

If it's not in one of these categories, it's a walk in the park IMO. Business, Psychology, History, Educational Science Majors, I'm talking to you ;)

It depends on the school. I know at my school, Physics (which, unfortunately, is one of my majors(other is math)) is generally considered to be the hardest. However. given my strengths, I'd have a much harder time as an English major most likely.

If you're good at fluid mechanics, you should be alright with AE. I won't deny it, I am good at fluids now, but it took the second time around for me to fully get it. :lol

... :(

its one thing to have a major that is hard because you know you arent smart enough to do it.

its another thing to be in a major where your success is based solely on the taste of your teachers.

i wouldnt say art is difficult like engineering is difficult. but its definitely not easy.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. I've never understood how some of the fine arts schools can be anything more than pure pass/fail. How do you say 'your musical composition is C work and this one is A work'.

At Berkeley I think the consensus was that Chemical Engineering was the toughest major.
same among undergrad @ Texas A&M... I also hear nobody gets into that with at least some thought into the money...

Well ... quite simply, the same way that we look at graphics of videogames and rank them. It's not impossible to rate art, it's just not the most absolute thing. Granted, I'm not an artist and really have no idea if what I'm saying makes sense, but I figure it's worthy of some thought.

well on a proffessional level, its very very easy to judge "quality"

in fine art the line between good and bad is alot more fuzzy.
