Created this thread just so we can talk about everything HTSD related instead of using the "new song released" thread

Metallica announced they will finally release a new album after 8 long years, Hardwired..to Self Destruct, coming out November 18. You can buy it here, but it'll probably be available at Spotify and Apple Music (both singles are already there)

My life style determines my death style.

Seriously though, super hyped about this album. I thought Hardwired was pretty good, and Moth into Flame was great!

Love it big fan of Metallica I actually like ALL of their albums

Hard wired was a great kick in the teeth "we're back" type of song and Moth Into Flame is a great follow up with the groove and harmonies

Is it me or has Hetfield really upped his singing? Seems really fierce in these new songs!!

Got the deluxe vinyl preordered LETS GO BOYS!

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
That album cover looks like the kind of thing that would just sit in a Tower for ten years and never get bought.

Hardwired....meh
Moth into Flame...great
I agree. What's weird about that is that Hardwired sounds like Metallica trying to sound the way they did when they were good, and the new song sounds nothing like Metallica.

Moth into Flame was a much better song, IMO, though the drummer kinda sucks? hehe

Lars Ulrich is well known for being a bad drummer.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I always thought Kirk Hammet looked strangely like a woman, and about ten years ago I cam to the conclusion that what made him look so feminine was his mustache. Strange as it seems, I thought him shaving it off would make him look like like a man.

Seeing him in the video for Moth Into Flame has confirmed this.

Hardwired sounds like a parady of a metallica song.
Moth to Flame is pretty much what I expect a modern metallica to sound like. Some of the groove of Load with more of a metal edge.

But I am not digging the flat production. The songs sound more like incomplete demos then finished songs. Black Album + The Loads + Garage Inc have godly production values and this just sounds a bit basic.

But hey. Sounds miles better then stock Death Magnetic and St Anger

Congrats, you just won GAF's "Strangest Post" award!

hardwired is ok. moth to flame is awesome. i'll wait a while after the album comes out before buying because these may be the only two songs worth a damn. surely there's a third decent one but i've seen crazier things happen.

Hardwired was the last song made for the album and it was done in a week and released two weeks after it was completed. I'm sure we have great things to come.
The album is said to be fairly consistent, there are no ballads, all pretty aggressive material that takes some inspiration from KeA and RtL. I'm sure the album will be great.

Some of the most boring 'metal' I've ever listened to. I don't think you could more easily put together songs that say 'we've phoned it in' if you tried. And to think they used to make songs like Fade to Black and One.

Out of all the interesting songs in their discography you choose Fade to Black as a shining example of "Metallica"?
To think they used to make songs like Enter Sandman and Fixxer!

I don't have anything against any of these songs but lol this is more in vein of Metallica than fucking Fade to Black

I can't be the only one who thinks these songs would be a LOT better if Lars was a competent drummer. The rest of the band is so damn talented.
Regardless, these 2 songs are mediocre, generic thrash but there are some cool riffs in there and they seem very single-ish so I still am cautiously optimistic.

The Black Album and Boston's self titled album are the two go to examples I have for best ever production values.

Death Magnetic is like the complete opposite of those.

No ballads? Whaaaaat? Source?

And yeah

Hardwired is a 6/10 but Moth into flame feels like a song from Load with heavy metal sound, so 9/10.

Moth into flame sounds better than Hardwired.

Was listening in mobile, but i wanted more oomph with the guitars.

I don't think it's a shining example of their normal output, but I do I think it's their best song.

Tons of people would agree with you. During Jason's last performance in the band on that MTV/VH1 show, fans got to vote what song they played. Fade to Black won. It's a fucking amazing song that I think the majority of fans would place very near the top, and clearly many do place it AT the top.

Also, Fixxxer is awesome.

I can't believe (ok i can) how bad Lars' drumming is on Hardwired.

nope, it's the first thing I hear having been drumming for 25+ years. He's terrible and has only gotten worse since he doesn't even care anymore.

Lars said:
"I think maybe this one is a little punkier in places and maybe slightly less progressive," says the drummer. "It's about the riffs and a bit more groove-oriented. One thing there's not is the big Metallica ballad. It's all pretty uppity."

Big Metallica fan but disses Fade To Black.

Never really thought it was that great but I've never really liked ballads either. Took be quite some time to start enjoying Nothing Else Matters

What am I reading here!? Fade to black is more of a quintessential Metallica song than bloody enter sandman. Do you even listen to their early shit.

I think any other song on Ride the Lighting is more quintessential than Fade to Black outside of maybe Call of Ktulu if we're really going to start going on about whos the bigger fan or whatever it is you're trying to argue. Most of my Metallica listening time is consumed by the first four albums and Live Shit: Binge and Purge 89'
I do not and have never cared for Fade to Black and if I was going to pick a song that represents the band it sure wouldn't be that
