Tell me then, what have they done musically that seperates them from the thrash metal of the old days?

Everything?
The black album seperates them from the metal of the old days
Then there's Load and Reload
S&M
A cover album Garage Inc.
St. anger (like it or not) is completely different
Death Magnetic (this is difficult but it doesn't sound like anything they did before)

and now the new two songs (I already said I don't like Hardwired that much but Moth is fucking awesome)

I don't get it.

Edit: And, oh fuck, It totally forgot about I disappear. I love it, lol.

I meant now. What I'm hearing from Death Magnetic and Hardwired just sounds like heavy music they've already written many times before. It just sounds uninspired. Metallica really have nothing else to give musically speaking - they're all dried up. If you're not doing anything new and just regurgitating same-sounding generic thrash metal songs then it probably means it's time to throw in the towel. It honestly just sounds like a bunch of old dudes who are out of touch with modern heavy music.

Can we petition to have Marty Friedman replace Kirk?
And have Metallica remake Risk? Lolno

"Fuckin Christ, they don't even sound like metallica now!"
"These dudes are all dried up, sound just like their old selves"

Why even complain, there's no winning no matter what they do.

I'm not even a Metallica fan though. I used to like them when I was a young teenager, but I grew out of them. These guys sound stale.

So then, what's the difference? Lol.

Of course they're out of touch with modern heavy music. Metallica trying to make an album that sounds like Intronaut or Animals As Leaders would be hilariously laughable, no matter how you try to spin it. They're just Metallica doing what Metallica does. Nothing wrong with that. It might not have the most impact, but that's not really what they need to do anymore.

Is *this* sarcasm? You've got to be fucking kidding me with this post. They're a musically insular band who just write boring metal riffs and splurge out corny butt-rock vocals. They're way past their prime and just regurgitate cookie-cutter thrash metal time and time again. How is this creative? Heavy music has evolved - it's not the 1980's anymore.

I love the tears of Metallica haters. You can keep crying about how bad they are now. They'll keep being the most successful metal/hard rock band until the day they hang it up.

Marty doesn't even do Metal music these days. He only does this weird anime music.
That's not really true. His last album, Inferno, was metal. I'm pretty sure he's also recording another metal album now, if everything he's saying on twitter is to be believed.

And have Metallica remake Risk? Lolno.

Marty hardly had much to do with that album's composition (aside from the weird effects), and even the solo's he DID write were much more interesting than Kirk's standard and uninspired pentatonic runs

Let James and Lars crank out the songs, and Marty lay on some sweet melodic leads

Marty is very fluid and obviously exceptional, but all his solos sound the same too. He would also sound very out of place in Metallica.

It's your opinion and that's okay.

But I also think that Load and Reload are some of the best albums ever released. So I'm probably one of the rare Metallica fans, lol.

Fuel, Memory remains, Fixxer, Unforgiven II, Ain't my bitch, Bleeding me, Hero of the day, Mama said, Cure, Devil's Dance, Until it sleeps, Bad Seed, Low man's lyric, etc.....
God, I love these albums. They're fucking amazing.

Marty had everything to do with Risk. Dave just allowed it to happen because he wanted the band to get more popular.

Anyone would sound out of place in Metallica. Lars has never been great. Kirk has never been great. But, they are Metallica. They have a sound you recognize immediately, and obviously that sound has served the band well.

That's what drives "metal fans" crazy. "This band I like more are better at their instruments! Why are people listening to Metallica instead!?"

typical metalhead silliness. if they're having fun, and a lot of people ARE getting enjoyment out of it, then what is the problem here? if you only like the old stuff, then only listen to the old stuff. nobody is forcing anything on you.

it really gets tiring having people share the same old hot takes anytime metallica is brought up.oh, you don't like anything after the black album? james' voice is gone? please tell us more.

metallica is past their prime, but they've also rebounded nicely from st. anger. relative to how most bands age, i think they're still doing pretty well. i will gladly take this new stuff over no metallica at all.

An album with the complexities of justice and the mixing of the black album. Thats what I want.

No way.
Besides the bass mix debacle, Justice's production is badass.
Love how the drums sound, raw and not overproduced.

Really like the sound on Lightning, Puppets, and Justice. I actually prefer those albums to the black album.

That said I love Jason's bass sound on the black album. Also Lars bass drum really kicks. Weird things to like I know, I just really like the bass work on that album.

I really don't mind that there's no bass in Justice. Gives it a unique sound. Plus you can crank it up in your car with less risk of blowing speakers :p

Sorry, but todays modern heavy music is really shitty. Im actualy having a hard time finding songs i like. FFDP Lift me Up and A7X Hail to the King are the last songs from modern bands i enjoy, for me bands like Mastodon should not exist. So saying metallica is trying to mix into modern metal, well, im not with you on that. Moth Into Flame is just an amazing track, probably the best they did for a very long time. Sound a heavier Load, some Exodus rift and feel in it, and jesus that Kirk solo, cmon jesus, its just amazing! I seriously have been listening to it for like 50 time.

For me, Metallica is well alive and kicking!

This should be bannable.
I cannot even fathom how you could come to this conclusion especially with how diverse their output has been from their first three, crack the Skye than their recent two. I'm straight up offended

My man. What I love about Load and Reload was that it felt like it was the music THEY wanted to make, and was the next step musically for them. I find it ridiculous that so many people want to pigeonhole musicians to a particular style. I love old 'Tallica, (hell, either Justice or Lighting is probably my favorite album of all time), but where I feel the band has gone wrong at certain times is trying to recreate a sound from a time that the band members no longer connect to from a creative standpoint. Hardwired feels this way to me, like it was fast/thrasy for the sake of being fast/thrashy because something needed to be added to the album in a short timeframe. Very odd choice as the first song released.

You should be ashamed of yourself, ask for forgiveness and never come back here. What the hell. Like, seriously, what the actual fuck.

We all have our taste in music, listening to this band give me headache, and i cant stand the voice. I just cant understsnd the popularity of this band.

Thr part where i am offended myself, is that Metallica as been rolling for more than 30 years, sure not all albums are great, but they still get bash and slammed for making great music, if its kicking a lot or not. Christ, im challenging everybody to find me a music band that have been alive for that long and release 10 albums like and say they are all succesfull and amazing. The Stones, Led Zed, any freakin band who you can say that are icons on rock- metal all got somewhere some album that are just average. Metallica is the only band i think who get slammed and bitch for every ffreakin album they make if it doesnt sound like Justice, Puppets or whatever.

Moth is an amazing track, Hardwired is enjoyable, i dont see why the hate. Its refreshing.

As a kid I loved the sound of AJFA but nowadays I get annoyed by the lack of bass. It's pretty noticeable really. Still, the best Metallica album ever IMO. That's why it's such a shame.

Both songs are awesome imo, with Moth being the better of the two. Then again, I've liked everything the band has done besides LuLu.

For an album to be succesfull it doesn't to be amazing, and also doesn't mean it is. St Anger sure as hell isn't amazing, neither DM, Load or Reload.

Okay, so I've listened more than 20 times to "Moth" now. It's fucking great. The chorus is amazing, the rhythm is fantastic.
This song is going to be a beast when played live...just like Fuel.

Melodic Metallica is best Metallica.

Edit: And wah wah is cool. Deal with it, gaf.

Yes! justice is my favorite album as well. Still, Metallica is the only band that realeases albums which sound completely different. As you said they make music THEY love. And that's why I love them. Sure, I was very sad when Newsted left Metallica (he's so good) but the band didn't change. You're a fan or you're not a fan.

Load an Reload are so fucking good. And "moth into flame" is probably the best song since the black album. Holy shit is it good. Normally you want them to quit...but after this song? No...keep making music, please.

Edit: So fucking crap, double post...sorry.

Hardwired isn't bad, I think it will probably grow on me, but it really seems like a track that could have missed making it onto Death Magnetic / Beyond Magnetic.

Moth into Flame is vibrant and colorful and a hell of a lot of fun. Liked it right away.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Can we petition to have Marty Friedman replace Kirk?
Mustiane couldn't convince Friedman enough just to play on a studio album and said fans bitching about Friedman was part of why Broderick left Megadeth.

Why do bands have to do something new every album? Besides, at this point in their career they don't even have to keep making music. They've already made enough to retire, and have families and stuff. They just make the music they want to make because they can, and a lot of people like it.

Seriously. Mastodon is great.

While I agree that Moth is actually a great song after repeat listens.. the very end of the guitar lick that leads into the chorus is awful, and I can't believe it made it onto the final version of the track.
