Both "Shepherd Of Fire" and "R U Mine?" are both finally up on the xbox dashboard to purchase now! "R U Mine?" is a blast to play on Guitar and bass. Bouncy, and plenty of movement up and down the fretboard. Nice and balanced. Better than the Foo Fighters song.
Here's hoping we get "Brianstorm" sometime in the future!
Oh nice, I recently got back into Rock Band 3. Now if they could only make it possible to get the Rockband 1 & 2 tracks on my RB3 game since I have seem to of missed the boat on that.
For RB1 you can purchase the export key for PS3 here, I assume for 360 it should be somewhere on the marketplace as well.
Sadly the export option has expired on Lego and 2. Not sure on Green Day since the tracks are all available as DLC anyway.
Well I mean, we agonize over what songs to put in the game, we then have someone go out to see if there's any interest in the band/label licensing the songs, we then negotiate that, we then convince them to give us audio stems for the tracks, we then have a team of folks spend hours/days/weeks authoring the tracks for the game, we then have a team doing QA on said tracks, we then have a team submitting the final content to both platforms and managing that process, we then have a small marketing team dealing with any associated assets (for the marketplace, for online promo videos, whatever else), and then we have a PR team preparing to make sure press and such knows about the tracks, and then we have teams continue to promote said tracks.
IT'S A WHOLE THING, YOU GUYS.
Happy we can do it, though. Excited about the opportunity with the three tracks we just released; cool to dust ourselves off to see if we can still do it. We can! New songs tomorrow!
Makes me wonder if they can create a USB adapter to make old wired and wireless controllers work on the new systems. Key thing is DLC and on-disk song transfers though.
The PS3 instruments all used an USB dongle to communicate with the console, so for PS4 I'd guess they'd have to make a driver for it.
No idea if the same dongle could be used on the XBone.
Considering Metallica's DLC was one of the first removed when the license re-negotiations started, I wouldn't hold my breath for them to come
I would love for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to make an appearance though!
Muse needs to never come to a potential new game for the sake of keeping a good joke alive.
All kidding aside, it was a shame that RB DLC ended when it did, since the GH contracts were in the process of expiring at the time. That's how we got Aerosmith just before the end, and I imagine they would have pounced on the Metallica stuff in an instant.
No one remembers the joke at this point (plus I'd like some Muse songs on RB)
Also, as said above, not sure anything would have truly happened with Metallica
Harmonix should try and release a digital version of RB3. Drop any song that they couldn't license for digital/too expensive and put it out there for $30-$40.
Had no idea RB3 on PS3 went for $40+ used, if I spend that kind of money on a game like this I'd much rather have it on my system 24/7 than anoter disc.
Totally aware of the Marketplace issue with only the Foo Fighters track showing. I flagged it this morning and we have our top lady on the case -- hope it's cleared up shortly!
So happy to see so much enthusiasm here for both the new content and the franchise. <3
I just realized that going off Harmonix's usual 5-year contract, any songs signed for the Rock Band 3 disc will expire in 9 months.
It generally holds up since we lost the Lego Rock Band export 5 years after the game came out. Rock Band 2's export expired as well, roughly 5 years after it's release.
Xbox 360 Rock Bank won't sell me any songs. When I choose "purchase" it says "there are no items available for purchase at this time". Not just the new songs, any songs. The Rock Band Store app does the same thing. Anyone else having trouble?

I know right! I'm not against the series advancing and adding more features IF a Rock Band 4 is made, but I put compatibility with existing DLC AND instruments/periphials at the top of my list.
The survey doesn't ask about importing across systems.
I maintain my stance that I will ignore further games unless my content exists somewhere that I can use all the stuff I purchased on 360 on either PS4 or PC.

They already did something similar with Just Dance on Xbone.
Personally, I can't justify purchasing another sequel if I can't import my ~$150 worth of DLC. It's in Harmonix's own interest to work out those license agreements to be platform agnostic to allow this to happen.

Exactly. I have a huge investment in my digital library for this game. If they want me to stay on-board, they need to make sure I can bring it with me elsewhere, even if it's only a one time option and I have to pay a fee.
Otherwise I have no problem leaving these games in the past. Taking out the 360 for an occasional get-together or party.
No. Harmonix loses me as a customer. I still use my 360 and might get a ONE one day, but if Harmonix wants to keep me as a customer that's how they do so.

The logistics of DLC you paid for on Msofts account and transferring that over to the PS4 is impossible. That's like buying a Audi and trying to return it to a BMW dealership. If you end up getting an Xbone and the DLC comes over then fine. But if not don't be mad at Harmonix, be mad at yourself.

I said they will lose me as a customer. And that's perfectly reasonable. And I will be one of many, many they will lose if they don't sort those things out.
As already said above, they made it work with Dance Central, did they not?

Harmonix does not curate your ownership of that content. it would be very strange if they suddenly did something to say "well, since you made purchases with that store over there, i will make sure you dont have to pay this other store for them to record you as having bought it from them."
You are basically requesting that MS, Sony, and Harmonix play nice and abandon the digital sales model.
Allowing a purchase on xbl marketplace to give you content on xbl marketplace is a much smaller bridge to cross.

Yeah, I agree. This seems like such an unreasonable demand. It was your decision to switch console brands between generations, then you expect DLC you bought on a competitor's console from a previous generation to work on your shiny new one?

All they would need to do is to link your accounts on the harmonix website, so your digital library is your library regardless. Kind of like how the movie streaming sites let you watch your content on multiple devices.

Not the same, different content providers. When you buy a song from PSN, they get the money, asking XLive to also offer the content for you when you paid for it on PSN it not gonna happen.
These services usually have clauses that you can't have content that can be unlocked by external services. You could sell the game for $1 on PSN then go to the creator's website and unlock the full game for $15, skipping the share PSN would get.

And it's their job to find a solution if they want my and other users continued business. It is in their best interest to solve this problem, especially with the dominating consoles flip flopping now.
This. They either find a way to tie it to my Harmonix account, or they lose me.
My fault I switched brands when Harmonix looked to have abandoned the series?
Then if they want my continued support they'll find a solution. Like so many other companies do. The ones that don't, lose my business.

I can see them working out something on future purchases, but the amount of hoops they'd have to jump through with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and the rights holders to the songs for something they're not going to see money from again is just too much. I think, at best, they'll find a way to make a transfer fee (i.e. pay X amount of money that we'll then give to the platform makers and the rights holders) and you'll get access to your songs on a different platform.

Q: Does this mean RB4 is coming?
A: This is question we keep hearing, and were listening! Right now were excited to be able to support the Rock Band platform with new content for Xbox 360 and PS3, but we dont have a new title to announce at the moment.
Q: After stopping weekly DLC releases back in April 2012, why have you decided to start releasing DLC again now?
A: We had an exciting opportunity to add new content to the already-massive Rock Band library with a song from Arctic Monkeys a band thats never been in a Rock Band title before! as well as new music from fan favorites Avenged Sevenfold and Foo Fighters. We couldnt pass it up. Also, we wanted to see if we could still do it. Turns out we can. Its sort of like riding a bike.
Q: Does this mark the return of weekly DLC?
A: Lets not get ahead of ourselves.
Q: Why arent these tracks coming out on the Wii?
A: Due to shifting production priorities and capabilities of the studio, we dont currently have plans to release additional songs on the Wii Rock Band Music Store. While we genuinely appreciate the support of Wii Rock band users over the years, the truth is that the active user Rock Band user base on this platform is low enough at the current time that we had to prioritize Rock Band DLC content opportunities on other platforms.
Q: Why arent you charting keys and Pro guitar parts?
A: We know that there are players that love playing keys and Pro guitar, but with the aforementioned shift in production priorities and finite resources spread across a number of different titles, we had to focus our attention on the instruments that the most people play.
This thread managed to get me to break out some RB to mess around with after a long hiatus.
I know they pulled the Metallica pack from the store, but I was under the impression that existing owners would be unaffected. The songs give me an error when I try to play.
The download is also curiously missing from my download history as well.

Hmm, not sure how PS3 works for sure 100% on that front, but it's weird that it stopped working then. Since it should be doubly unlocked via your console and your PSN account.
I'd call Sony if it still isn't in your download list.
Does it show the album art when browsing it in-game?
Yeah, ...And Justice For All, Blackened, and Ride the Lightning are all there in the list as normal. I pick it, select guitar, difficulty, then as it loads I get the error:
"The song data you were accessing has become unavailable."
While I haven't played EVERY DLC song I have tonight, the several others I did all worked fine. Very odd stuff.

Okay, that's weird. On 360, if DLC becomes corrupted, you won't even see album art and you won't hear a preview.
A quick Google around seems to tell me the PS3 doesn't have a Rock Band Song Cache like the 360 does, so I can't tell you to delete that and let RB3 rebuild it.
Do you have Blitz? If not, you can download the demo and see if the DLC shows up in the Blitz song list.
Also, from another google around, it seems like a long shot but make sure you have Parental Controls on your account set at the minimum. Apparently some people have had updates randomly set them to lower levels and it blocks random DLC from loading.
I think it was said at some point that those early albums can only be used if they do the bake method to make the tapes usable, which is a one-way trip since it tends to shred the tapes as they're recorded to new media. Probably too expensive and risky for now.
