maybe im dreaming up a fairy tale but i always get this urge to just move to somewhere in europe. it just seems like it would be an amazing experience to be out there on your own living in a different country/culture.

how did you guys do it? did you immediately move back because it was too hard or different? was finding a place to live, communicating, and overall finances a big problem? explain your situation and why you made the move. im really interested in hearing about it.

I may live in Crete for about a month and a half this summer. A couple things would have to fall into place, though. The prospects don't look so hot, but how wonderful would that be...

I'm moving to amsterdam from New Zealand in 7 weeks. have my plane ticket booked and some money saved. I'm meeting my gf there who i have known for about 7 months, pretty exciting although Im dreading my money getting halved the second I convert it. Hope I can get a job.

Reason I'm doing it is to be with my lady, but also it feels like I need to see the world now or resign myself to not since once you are 30ish it gets harder to get working permits etc, my gf had to go back to Germany (she was over here from berlin on holiday) and study and got into a Uni in Amsterdam, I could either say see you later or go, so I decided that since I'm turning 26, not getting any younger and I really want to experience the culture shock of another country.

My only real concern is that I don't have anything to come back to should I screw it up, I don't really have close family that I could just fly back to and stay with if I go broke.....

I'd LOVE to move to the UK or somewhere in Scandinavia. Although, the culture shock in Scandinavian countries would be somewhat worse than it would be in England. I was over there last summer on my own, and it was intimidating as hell. I figure if travelling alone is that hard, I don't know how hard it'd be to completely move over there. Especially with Europe where, like someone already said, your money is almost halved (at least in the UK).
