HATSUNE MIKU Project DIVA Future Tone |OT| A gift to the millions of miku fans

Feels pretty bad that I can like 90%+ on Sadistic Music Factory but I stuggle to even get Greats on some 8-8.5* stuff lol.

I should probably Sadistic Music Factory less.

Nah, it's a great song and it's fun to play too.

It's definitely one of my favorite "Final Boss" songs (or God Tier difficulty songs. Whatever you want to call them)

Agh, I need to get good, I really feel like my skill set didn't transfer over too well, gotta adapt my playstyle to the charts I guess.

Was just thinking this, I could beat all the songs in f2nd on hard, in this game I'm failing the majority on normal lol
It's really punishing for breaking combos it seems. I had a 300+ combo going for Melancholy which I broke and then missed a few and I ended up not even getting an Excellent.

Yeah, the scoring system is similar to the very first PSP game in which combos are king. I think starting with PD 2nd they weighted combos a little less and gave more weight to whether you were getting Cools versus Goods. But the arcade series and the home series evolved separately mechanically after the first PSP game. At least, I believe that is the case.

Yeah, you crazy. I'm always looking at your scores on random songs and surprised how much I'm ahead of you, but thdn I remember all you seem to play is Sadistic Music Factory lol.

I'm pretty much the opposite. All --> random, all the time.

Yeah it seems like the cut off for Excellent rankings is stricter too. Had to get about 85% accuracy in Melancholy to break it. And I missed way less than that actually sounds.

I think the window for getting Excellent varies depending on the difficulty you're playing on too. I want to say it's 90% or better on Hard mode.

Also, the easier difficulties have Chance Time but the harder ones don't *shrug*

After feeling kind of burned by Diva X I'm contemplating if I should get this. I played around with the demo version and I liked what I played. The focus on the rhythm game is great but it seems harder then the previous Diva games. How much of a overlap is there with Future Tones and Diva f/f2nd?

I had a go at the demo and I like the arcade scoring system. Gives you much better feedback as to how well you are doing throughout the song.

I have a question - do all the songs in the full game come with those crazy story videos like they have in the other games, or are they all just performed on those sets? I fear the latter, just based on the sheer number of them.

What an awesome collection this is! Soooooo many songs, holy crap.

It is much harder then the previous games, holding down multiple buttons at once is tricky as hell.

60fps makes a huge difference, will be hard to go back to Vita after this :-\

All of the songs from F/F2nd, bar 3, are included in Future Tone, but the actual beatmaps are unique to Future Tone.

Nope, there are definitely lots of crazy story videos, unlike Diva X. Even though there are lots of songs, this is effectively six years' worth of arcade content so there was plenty of time to make cool PVs.

By the way, if anyone wants to practice multi-notes, Close and Open, Demons and the Dead on extreme is a good song to do that on!

Most have the former, the rest being that some arcade songs and the earlier Project Diva PVs can be a little barebones though compared to stuff like F 2nd.

Totally agree - whilst there's a lot of songs that crossover with games in the series I own, there's so much there that I am playing for the first time that it feels worth the money. A really nice bit for me was getting to play songs 'properly' that I've only heard online and/or played unofficially (like on Beats on my tablet).

I really enjoy Diva X but it's a nice palette cleanser switching between the two - though I find Future Tone significantly more difficult (Extreme is my go-to on the older games but I can barely last half a song on Future Tone).

All of this sounds incredible. I'm very tempted to bite the bullet.

Man, I really want to get this game but I only just bought Diva X in the sale and I haven't even finished all of the songs on hard on Project Mirai DX yet. I need to pull my finger out.

Diva X was pretty much a filler release until they figure out what to do next.

Future Tone is a massive catch-up and an introduction to a whole new set of mechanics that make the game much more interesting and challenging.

If you felt burned by Diva X then Future Tone will relight your love of Miku.

Wait, this is more like the original PD? Fuck yeah, always liked it way more than the successors. Are the patterns the same in SMF as in PDF?

Gives all the fucks
It's oozing with SEGA fan service. Not only are there classic SEGA tunes, but there's tons of SEGA modules (costumes) and other references as well.
Off the top of my head, I know Miku can dress up as Sonic & Ulala as well & there's always been a Puyo Puyo hat in all the games.

Based on the OP & what I recognize, Keito can dress up as Kage Maru from VF while Luka can dress up as Serah, Rin, Len, & Miku can wear the Valkyria Chronicles outfits, Rin also seems to wear a Puyo Puyo character outfit(??), & Meiko has an outfit from Border Break.

I...think that's it? Or did I miss a few? I know some have appeared in previous Project Diva games.

Bought the bundle: the amount of content is staggering, best gang for buck since Theatryhthm FF: Curtain Call. Download speed was dreadful: it took a whole day to download the base game and the song packs with a 40 Mbps connection. Not a first good impression for PSN (I just got my first PS4 this Saturday, the Pro, and this is my first major game purchase), but that's beside the point.

All these songs and no Triple Baka though 😔

Ok I figured out that the arrows are not a real issue if you remap them diagonally opposed to each other. Please disregard my previous post.

I'm really loving using the PDX controller now. Can't believe I actually reglected it all this time... the game actually makes sense now!

I'm using the analog sticks for the slides now, coming from the star notes in the F/X series it feels the most intuitive, and the placement means they're convenient to operate with one's thumbs.

I would love to rebuy the game regardless of monetary cost, but the thought of losing all my progress and scores so far... meh.

Iran probably better for your brain to have ignored it in DIVA, I really had to break my hand movements and learn the new line pattern.

I was looking forward to restarting this (played through the JP version) using the PDX controller but I give up trying to understand how to set it up correctly (despite the best efforts of you gaffers). I don't want to go through it again using the DS4 as i don't feel like I'm going to improve using it. Oh well, At least I've shown my support for Miku buy buying it twice!

It's super easy to set up the PDX Controller for it, I promise.

Go into the controller settings in--game. Make these changes:

LEFT to TRIANGLE
UP to SQUARE
SQUARE to X
O leave at O

Turn off the rest of the buttons, you won't need them.

On your PDX minicontroller:

Hold down the ASSIGN button until the LED beside it blinks RED

Hold down RIGHT for three seconds until now the RED and GREEN LEDs are flashing

Hold down UP for three seconds until now just the GREEN is on.

This means when you hit RIGHT you're sending the UP command to the PS4. The reason we need to do this is because the PS4 won't accept simultaneous presses of LEFT and RIGHT or UP and DOWN.

(Here's a youtube video on the assign feature just in case you need a visual aid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAhWBNJF9dY)

Voila, you're done! Use the analog sticks to navigate and have fun playing it really close to how it was played in the Arcade. The stick will even remember the settings so you don't need to do it every time you plug it in!

Many thanks for this, I will follow this to the letter when I get home this evening!

Awesome, let me know how it works for you! I'd hate to see you invest in that controller and have it go to waste.

Don't get discouraged if you're awful the first few times you use it, you'll need to break your brain from DIVA X layouts to the line layout of FUTURE TONE. I failed the first song I played on Hard a few times. now I'm usually able to pass Hard songs the first go at 66% minimum, so obviously need to practice more but it's starting to work!

I also changed how the buttons show on the screen to just the symbols, that helped my brain get things right quicker. :-D

I'm actually not sure about this. Double slides can be done on two sticks, but does the game ever ask for a double-double slide? Maybe not.

I know when the game first game out in Japan you had to have the d-pad mapped to navigate menus, but I believe they enabled analog stick input in one of the patches.

My recommendation is pick one of your favourite songs, and then grind it until you attain or exceed your previous best rating. Don't change songs until you feel completely confident that you have the layout committed to memory.

I went through my favorites list on normal when I got my arcade controller. By the end I could move on to hard and was doing better than I was with a pad before too long.

There is a bit of a learning curve to it, but really fun and rewarding once you get proficient at it.

No, pretty sure it never asks for that. It would be impossible to do on the arcade machine because it's just a touch strip. And the analog sticks work just fine to navigate the UI, that's what I've been doing!

Definitely one way! I'd like to play as many songs as possible in the short time I have to game every night, so I'm just winging it. Considering it's gonna take like 10 hours just to play every song if I would be able to pass them on the first time.....

Sounds like a good idea, though I'll have to choose a song I don't like as I don't want to get fed up with one of my favourites!

Ok, so I followed your instructions.....

I now have triangle where the left button on the PDX controller is, square where the right arrow is, X where the square button is and the circle button remains as is, so the middle row of buttons on the controller now goes triangle, square, X, circle. This is what we want yes? (All other buttons are unassigned, though I did assign a four button press to the R1&R2 buttons as I thought that would help).

Trying it for the first time, forgetting the fact that I got lots of button presses wrong (to be expected at this stage!), using the hold notes is now only possible until further notes appear, then you HAVE to release the hold else you'll miss the next note? I may be getting mixed up with PDX and FT controls mind!

Did you do like I recommend and set UP to SQUARE and then change it using the PDX controller to RIGHT? If so, then yup, you're all set up correctly! Although I have no idea how you're reaching those tiny R1/R2 buttons, but it's your set up, you do you. :-D

Well for four holds you're basically stuck with dropping it, since you need to hit something to keep the combo going. But with 1/2/3 button holds you can always hit the wrong button intentionally to not drop the combo and get a WRONG, so you can keep holding and get that big hold bonus! It's all how you wanna play and what works to get the highest scores.

Having played a few more Meiko songs, I still think she's the worst.

After Burner is good but mainly because its After Burner music. Tsugai Kogarashi is legit though.

I just don't like the sound of her voice. =(

As for the difficulty the trouble I'm having is due to switching from the lagless Vita games with their amazing buttons to the mixed up lag in PDFT on a DS4.

Meiko (and Kaito to an extend) are very hit or miss to me too.

Either I hate their songs or love it. When you find one good song with those two, chances are that's actually great.

I thought I'd set it up right, thanks for the help. Close together quick notes are very difficult with the controller as the buttons are spongey. I'd also forgotten about my main nemises from the JP version, lag. Gave it a quick go using the normal control scheme and a DS4 and it was so hit and miss I may not buy the dlc when it comes out (I have it on the JP version anyway).

Oh for a lag free experience, the game would be so much better.

The biggest problem with the minicon is definitely trying to hit slide notes while holding buttons. Really wish they could have implemented a touch strip on the thing.

Otherwise, it's an excellent product, and I'd... probably not have bought the game if I didn't have it. Too accustomed to the button layout for Future Tone. Controller is foreign to me for this type of Project Diva.

I feel better about playing with the DS4, since the top Japanese player also uses it, gonna learn!
