HATSUNE MIKU Project DIVA Future Tone |OT| A gift to the millions of miku fans

Bought the bundle.

I'm a bit of a Miku noob so this seems like a great place to start -- I did go see her in concert last year when she came to Texas and I've fiddled with one of the Vita games a bit.

Excited to dive in!

I was hoping to play this with my arcade controller but the buttons simply do not return fast enough for any high speed note sections and even if they did their size means they aren't great for spamming. It does the job and it's fun for some songs on Hard but anything beyond that is going to be a problem. I even tried the following 8 button setup to get around the limitations but it's a little overcomplicated and means using the arcade stick for the L/R notes which isn't practical for harder songs:

T T S S
X X O O

I wish they would release a dedicated FT accessory based on the arcade cabinet! How did Hori manage to produce a Diva X accessory but not a FT one?! It would have truly been absolute perfection.

This is by no means a complaint about the overall game by the way, I'm loving it and will love it using a DS4!
That layout won't work as Extreme charts have double swipe sequences that you need to hit. This is the layout I use on stick, myself.

L L R R
T S X O

Hitting the fastest sequences can be a problem, but honestly it's a skill you would have needed in the arcade version or in other music games (Beatmania IIDX will ask you to hit the same button at even faster rates with an even smaller timing window).

The Hori minicon for X works with Future Tone, but the configuration is a little weird and good luck finding one now.

I said screw it and got the bundle. If I have to eat ramen for the rest of the month, I'm good.

That said, this is EXACTLY the type of game I wanted. Pure rhythm game with customization/modules, but without any pointless extras. PLus I love that it's digital so I can play the game anytime I want.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
I love that pretty much all my favorites from F/F2nd are here. Tengaku, DYE, Weekender Girl, Hm? Ah, Yes, Rin-chan Now...such a good tracklist. Love this game, and the higher difficulty than I'm used to means plenty of replayability, too.

(Any old Pop'n players notice that the "Modifiers" are straight out of Pop'n? Hi-Speed, Hidden, and Sudden, same as Pop'n.)

So how many songs do you get in the bonus DLC/the Season Pass? I tend to skip them since I pretty much exhaust how much of the game I want to play/need to play for trophies.

I started off with:

L R L R

The problem is that the buttons on my arcade stick (MadCatz SFV TES+) don't reset fast enough, once I get to a high speed section if I'm hitting the same button too quickly the notes stop registering. It was really only viable for the lowest difficulty Hard songs which is why I tried that silly double note layout. I'm an arcade stick newbie to be honest (just bought this one and never previously bought one in my gaming life) but I assume this is down to the kinds of parts used in this stick.

Yay, double-dipped and waiting for it to download! Even though I have the JP version, I still to this day get tripped up on the menus, so it's worth it for just that.

Each pack has 4 songs and a bunch of Extra Extreme charts. So that's 12 songs and a lot of Extra Extreme charts over the 3 packs.

I bought the English version but I'll probably not download it for now. Having to unlock Extreme/Extra Extreme charts again sounds like a chore right now.

You're kidding me. Were they some kind of limited release?

I just spent like $220 on one for my daughter for Christmas (she is a fan, and my wife somewhat, which is why I'm in this thread at the moment).

If you google it in Yen it was about $130 when they came out last summer, so, the markup isn't that horrible (ok, well not compared to a NES classic or the like).

Import stuff is always gonna cost ya.

I can't believe it. This game man. Is the most beautiful musical game I ever played. It is like a gigantic Luna Park.
I still can't believe that Sega gave this to us. It must be a dream. I was playing this for 4 hours straight and couldn't stop, It's like I have 15 years all over again... This must be the rightest thing in 2017, hands down.

Can anyone clarify what the Multi-Press Assist -> Detection Assist setting (in the control configuration screen) does?

I’m still getting my head around the asymmetrical double-presses and I want to make sure I’m not giving myself any bad habits. (Yeah, Project Mirai DX had them, but it’s been a while!)

For anyone confused about Button Help Display (the other Multi-Press Assist setting), it came up much earlier in the thread:

The first option there is to enable/disable the controller hint/prompt during button combos, for example when you have to press square and circle simultaneously you'll see a image of the controller on screen with those buttons highlighted, this settings simply disables this like it would when playing on extreme.

I'm afraid I'm still trying to figure out what the second option does myself.

Omg after so much DIVA it's so hard to wrap my brain around playing the notes in one line of my DIVA X minicon. I've failed the first song on Hard like five times now, slowly getting closer and closer as I break the training from those games.

This is AWESOME. I have Triangle as Left, Square as Up (then reprogrammed on the controller to Right), Square as X and O as O.

EDIT: Is there a way to see just Future Sound or Colorful Tone songs?

I forgot this came out today! I have a question that has probably already been answered, but I didn't immediately see.

What does the $12.99 unlock key do? Just unlocks modules? If I buy the two packs, is the unlock key included or do I still have to buy it separately?

Zonic

The unlock key just unlocks all the accessories & costumes right from the get-go. It is NOT included if you get the song packs.

Uh I'm trying the remap feature on the PDX controller and it seems it can't remap to/from the L1/R1/L2/R2 buttons at all??

How do I get rid of the directional buttons so I can press any of the 8 buttons simultaneously? Is there really no way?

This is super disappointing...

Enjoying the game a lot. Loving hold notes, cool little optional risk/reward thing. Shoulder buttons instead of analog sticks or touch screen is hugely appreciated. Those are both enhancing the experience for me.

But like with every Miku game there's something that annoys me. Multi notes. Man they're visually messy. I was worried about them watching footage, and while inputting them isn't annoying as I thought it would be, how spaced out they can be, how many can be on screen at once and the flashy videos can make them hell to see. This series badly needs dimming background options. It's bugged me in every entry.

Oh also love that all the non-rhythm game stuff is gone. Never cared for it at all. It's all about the gameplay.

No, the controller has a simple 3.5mm port. But you should be able to pair your headphones with the PS4 directly.

Nope. I wish you could.

Trust me, you get used to this.

Something that was lost in the conversion is that the distance between each two notes is similar to the arcade controller. So Triangle and cricle will always be very far form each other and triangle and square will always be close.

It's a small thing, but it helps a lot when there are many multi notes.

I still don't like how punishing breaking your combo is. Though I'm probably thinking that cause I played some DDR today where it's super forgiving lol.

Nope. I wish you could.

The multi-notes are positioned in a certain way, so it matches up with the arcade layout (Triange - Square - X - O). If you're still going through songs on Hard, you'll usually see them horizontally, which can look kinda messy. Once they start coming up vertically, they look a little more neat.

About to go live with some evening Project Diva: Future Tone in a few minutes... barring any technical issues (there WILL BE technical issues) @ twitch.tv/robomoe. Wish the video quality was better (the computer I'm using for this is... not powerful, to say the least), but at least I have game audio sorted out.

Frankly, I wish the unlock key unlocked the Extreme/Extra Extreme charts from the get-go. I would hate myself for doing it, but I might have actually paid for that.

Got the JP version last year of Future Sound... Even built my own controller for this game.

Now sorely tempted to double dip on that and pick up the bundle with Colorful Tone...

I've already had more fun with this than I did with my Japanese version of Colorful Tone. All these songs in Future Sound that I always play, every visit to the Arcade, are now in my home and it is wonderful.

Guess I'm just stuck with only enjoying familiarity. :x

If you're playing with the PDX controller, why not set it up in the Arcade layout?

The PS4 can't accept is Left and Right at the same time, or Up and Down at the same time. Now, this isn't gonna change if you tell the GAME to make, say Left and Right Triange and Square, because to the base input of the PS4 you're still hitting Left and Right. It's not Future Tones fault, it's the PS4s.

Setting it to the Arcade of Triangle Square X O across the middle allows you to have the PDX controller change Up to Right or Left allowing you to hit both at the same time because to the PS4 the button you're hitting is Up because that's what it's being told.

Good news fellow Gaffers, the new entry on Playstation Blog about this game has shed some light over the patches and DLC situation (bolded for emphasis):

And as an extra bonus, one of the users there asked about the themes and avatar pack that were offered in the japanese version, to which the SEGA representative replied:

All in all, great news for all of us and an amazing job on SEGA's part for keeping parity between regions for this release. On a small note, the PS Blog post is just about the American version of the game, but I am very sure that the situation will be exactly the same in Europe.

For those who want to check the full post, here's the link:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/01/10/hatsune-miku-project-diva-future-tone-out-today-on-ps-store/

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go on PSN and destroy my digital wallet on some Miku goodness for me and my waifu :^)

Thank you for posting this. Super happy that the DLC is coming over, and at a discount, even! So the entire package is under $80...a bargain, if you ask me.

Alright, I'll bite. Although...with the frequency that Sony's been running the "Spend $100, get $xx" promotions, I feel like maybe I should wait a bit to see if they do it again.

I feel it would be flushing money away to rebuy this game in English especially when there's a lot of other games coming out later in the month but I am happy to see it come over. It's the best Miku game.

I'm in the same boat. I really want to buy it again in English so that I can compete on the leaderboards with my friends, but Yakuza 0, Gravity Rush 2 and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 all come out later this month and I'm not made of money! ;_;

omgggggg Rolling Girl is fun as *

I didn't make it through the start the first time I played it at the arcade, but that was way back. As to avoid wasting money on a song I can't actually make it through, I haven't played it since. Played it here since, you know, it costs nothing. And I can barely squeak by the opening, into the EXTREMELY fun rest of the chart.

Definitely playing it this weekend on the actual machine! :D

I haven't played the Miku games asides from Mirai DX on 3DS. Is it just me, or do a lot of these tracks feel shorter in Future Tone?

Project Mirai is the only Diva game to use the full version of songs. Every other game, including Arcade, usually edits down to songs to be about 3 minutes long. So yes, songs in Future Tone are shorter then the ones in Mirai.

Oh hey I'm rank #3 for Rolling Girl Extreme right now

I mean there's next to nobody else on the list but it's cool anyways :p

Ok I figured out that the arrows are not a real issue if you remap them diagonally opposed to each other. Please disregard my previous post.

I'm really loving using the PDX controller now. Can't believe I actually reglected it all this time... the game actually makes sense now!

I'm using the analog sticks for the slides now, coming from the star notes in the F/X series it feels the most intuitive, and the placement means they're convenient to operate with one's thumbs.

I would love to rebuy the game regardless of monetary cost, but the thought of losing all my progress and scores so far... meh.

I spent about $190 for mine around release (had to pay for the most expensive shipping :/) so $220 doesn't seem too bad.

Also, are there unlockable songs? I thought the song list was 220 but I only have 216. Either way, it's a hell of a lot of songs!

Same problem! I've got Fate/EXTELLA next week followed by Tales of Berseria, Yakuza 0, and Resident Evil 7.

The Challenge Time parts in this feel crazy hard compared to Project Diva F. They will legit take me down a rank in the song EVERY time even on Normal.

I should probably Sadistic Music Factory less.
