Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

Just downloaded the demo on a whim a couple days ago to see what it was like. I was about to drop it because there was no tutorial and I had no idea what to do with the stars. Then my friend stopped me and messed with it a bit. Then we got addicted to the demo. I managed to get a Great rating on the song with the two girls. Love it.

So now I'm wondering, what's the best place to get it from? I see Amazon has the Asian version for $74.99. Not sure if there's a cheaper place than that.

And the controllers look like it'd make it harder to play for me. I think the DualShock3 is fine for it as I know where the buttons are.

EDIT: Liked and shared the Facebook posting. Hopefully it helps.

You have to flick the analog sticks for star notes at the right times.

And amiami is probably the cheapest place to import but right now they're on back order. $65 with the cheapest shipping, can't recommend this site enough.

It comes to $65 with the shipping included?

The cheapest shipping option is like 420 yen, adding that to 6060 yen for the game and based on the exchange rate right now it looks like you'd be paying around $67.

Not really all that bad when you consider that a new $60 game in Indiana comes to around $64 after taxes. I would, however, be pretty upset if they announced a release over here months after getting it. I could always use English menus.

No longer on backorder at amiami. Considering getting the controller and then waiting for probable english release..

Would be nice to see the controller in action. Just seeing the picture, I have a hard time seeing how this would make it easier or more fun to play than just using the dualshock. It actually looks like it'd make it harder. Except for the directional arrows if they don't require you to hold the corresponding color/shape.

StarCreator posted this video of the controller in action. I was originally going to skip it but after seeing this video, I absolutely could not resist for some reason. I love me some music gaming peripherals.

Be aware though, shipping with the controller cost me over 5000 yen, was not expecting that :(

Guess this should be posted here?

Last week, Sega posted a banner to their Facebook page, asking if fans would support a release of their rhythm game, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, for the PlayStation 3 in North America and Europe. At the time, Sega didn’t confirm or deny if a plan to bring the game over was already in motion.

To get a little more clarity on the matter, Siliconera got in touch with Sega’s Associate Brand Manager, Aaron Webber, to find out if he could shed a little more light on the subject, and if the Facebook promotion was being used to gauge interest or more for marketing purposes.

“As we gauge interest for a Hatsune Miku game in the west, we have a rare opportunity to let the fans speak up and show their desire,” Webber shared with Siliconera via e-mail. “If you like Hatsune Miku and want to see Project Diva F on PS3, you can directly influence the future by liking and sharing the Facebook post!”

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F for the PlayStation 3 was released in Japan last week. The game features six more songs than its PlayStation Vita counterpart and a number of new modules (costumes) for its Vocaloid characters.

Hah, when he was using the direction arrows, it counted as the corresponding color. Like when he needed to press X he was pressing the blue down arrow and it counted.

But, yeah, I don't like how that looks. I know it might sound weird, but I was able to get into the song with the guitar on the demo pretty well using the dualshock. I'd just jam on the buttons and kinda rock the controller like a guitar. lol. Think I'll just stick with that.

Yep. I still think it's already been decided.

I'll be waiting if it is.

Probably just trying to gauge print numbers.

That would make sense. Though I would suspect they'd print over what's show on Facebook since there are those who don't use Facebook and won't use it for one reason or another. I do so I liked and shared it. But I would think it's extremely likely it'll be released here if they're doing this and Sega has had all those Yakuza games come here recently.

Man this game is a blast. The mini controller works out well. It reminds me of the mini popncon.

I'm still REALLY thinking about buying the larger one. I'll have to see what my closing costs will look like, once we move. I'm sure Yes Boss! will push me over the edge once he post pics of his once it arrives...

Oh I forgot to mention that I got the key chain thing pre-order bonus from Ami Ami (I haven't opened it).

My Big One should be shipping out of Tokyo today (Friday, their time). Don't know what the shipping damage will be but I'm expecting at least $100. That said, stick itself was only $360 given the better exchange rate. Can't wait to try it out! Gonna still keep the little one out for this weekend, though.

I'm used to paying $500+ for Bemani controllers, so that's why I was excited when you had mentioned the price initially.

I'm in for a mini review once you get it!

LOL same thing happened to me. I downloaded the Demo last night, had no problem with circle. After pressing everything on my controller (even clicking the sticks) I finally moved them down and it worked. Reminds me of Bust a Groove a bit which I loved.

It's cute, I don't know entirely what I think of it yet, but I would probably buy it if and when it's localized.

Will be posting impressions/videos soon! Ironically as soon as I decide to check the tracking, the mailman was already at my front door. Oh EMS.

That is sexy!! Let me know how the controller is, the DS3 isn't that great for this game. >>;

Loving the controller so far, have an unboxing and gameplay video with the controller if anyone's interested.

Is that the accessory stuff?

Nope, controller, game and soundtrack!

Finally got around to uploading the video of the first song and part of the second I played with the arcade style controller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMTvCgkLo0E

More impressions to come after I have time to crack it open.

ooOOOooo, so jelly, them pretty lights.

So I finally got around to spending some time with the PS3 version. For reference, I have a Perfect on all but three Extreme charts in my 50+ hours on the Vita version, so I more or less know it inside and out. I decided to buy the mini controller for the PS3 version, though, so I was already looking at a major difference on the control front.

Initially: I was very disappointed with the lack of 60fps gameplay, compared to the Dreamy Theater titles. However, after a little bit of time, I noticed that we didn't lose the smoothness for nothing. I already had heard about native 1080p output; that's lost on me, because I don't have a 1080p TV, but I very quickly saw the impact of the anti-aliasing. Lines look so much cleaner than before...so the framerate drop is a little bit easier to swallow. I do wish that it was a selectable option, though. I may be in the minority, but I'd trade the AA away to get the smoothness back!
Overall, there really is a lot more detail in the graphics, other than some low-res textures here or there. But things like Weekender Girl just look amazing now.

I don't see much talk about the features of the game itself. Did anyone notice the new viewing mode? It replaces PDf's AR mode, which obviously can't be replicated on PS3. Entering it offers two options: the left option very much resembles Dreamy Theater Extend's concert mode, but you can only watch one song at first; more unlock as you clear PDF's songs. The right option allows you to pose Miku (the options here are unbelievably numerous, right down to facial expressions) against a bunch of provided backgrounds, or one of your own...so it's kind of like the AR mode, in a sense.

DIVA Room changes seem slight. You can't physically rub their heads, then eye poke anymore; you have to hold O while moving the left stick in a circle (really, just continuously, but a circle is the easiest way to do this), then tap O after they blink. Not much seems different other than that...

I was disappointed to see that there is no separate trophy set; the Vita and PS3 titles share the very same set of trophies. I was hoping that PDF would not only have separate trophies; it would have different ones, as well. But...noap!

As far as the controller goes, I love it. I never used the rear touchpad on Vita, so going from the buttons to the right thumbstick very much resembles going from the face buttons to the screen on the handheld. I got used to it right away. The buttons feel great but I have a few problems here or there with the sensitivity; sometimes they feel super-sensitive (Sanwa-like), but then I'll press too lightly and break combo. Trying to find the balance...
I really like it for other games too. Obviously the Dreamy Theater games are a given, but I've used it for Pac-Man CE DX already, using two buttons with each hand. Bombs are a pain when relegated to the little buttons though =\ Honestly, I think it will be suitable for many games.
If anyone's on the fence about whether to buy the controller: really, if you like arcade style controllers (joysticks, etc.) you will love this. If you don't really care about arcade style controllers, it likely won't change your mind.

Playing a little bit more, it felt a bit more difficult to track the floating button icons than before. The sizes of the icons seem to be the same as in Dreamy Theater, but I noticed something: in the DT titles, the area around the icons was darkened slightly. This no longer seems to be the case. Combined with the choppier framerate, this effectively makes the game more difficult. Oh, well...
What feels odd to me is that most aspects of the game's interface feel unchanged from the Vita version (meaning, they look BIG on the TV), but the icons feel smaller than before, because they take up less of the screen than they did on Vita. ::shrug::

Because I played the Vita version using my North American account and have no interest in swapping memory cards, the DLC is useless to me, right? Is the free DLC included in the $15 package? If not, I'd consider selling my DLC code for cheap to someone who has no interest in buying the PS3 version.

Yeah, you'd have to be on a Japanese PSN account to use the DLC code, or even to use the save data transfer tool (as it only exists on JP PSN). The code gives Tell Your World and a discount for buying the rest of the content.

Yeah that's the same controller I played with a few weeks ago. DYE and Himitsu Keisatsu on Extreme are fun. ^^

Can't be considering these were only shipped out just over a week ago =p If you were at MAGFest or Katsucon that was my Dreamy Theater 2nd controller, which is similar but can't be used with DIVA F thanks to the need for the analog touchpad.

For the Mini Controller I checked to see if the little button switches are interchangable with Sanwas and they are. Though, I see no problem with the Hori switches...they actually seem to have a slightly springier feel. Nice to know in case that part goes out it can be replaced.

Project DIVA F and Macross 30 are apparantley waiting for me at home. 10 days by SAL, not bad.

Keen to dig in, have played the demo a few more times since ordering.

After buying the game and playing it for like one hour day 1, I'll finally be able to enjoy it properly tomorrow.

I'mma play Senbonzakura so hard.

I want to play the new game. I do like my rhythm games to be portable but it really is such a pain in the ass to use a jp account on a Vita that I should probably buy the PS3 version so I can actually play the DLC songs. So PS3 > Vita then? Portable is damn nice though...

You could import a physical copy of the Vita version to make life easier, but if you have the option I would strongly recommend going down the PS3 route. It looks nice enough on Vita, but it's so much nicer playing on a big screen - the PVs really pop with improved graphics. And with the volume set to a neighbourhood-bothering level, it's Vocaloid sensory overload!

Woah, hold the phone, stop the presses, back the fun bus up, some Electrocutica made it into this one?

Okay, alright, ordering right now.

DS3 as a control scheme terribad or just acceptable? Had no issues with Dreamy Theatre 2nd, how hard did they break it? If someone would be so kind as to inform me.

It's not hard, you just have to substitute the swipe motion for stars with either the right or left analog stick on a DS3. Still pretty easy in my opinion, especially if you are used to playing games like DJ MAX.

Do you still want to sell the vita DLC code? I'd love to get it if possible :)

I never thought possible that Senbonzakura wouldn't end up as my favorite track from the PS3 version.

Sweet Devil is pretty good!

Nice to know in case that part goes out it can be replaced.

My thought exactly. Thanks for making this discovery! =)

If you were happy with the controls in DT2nd, you'll be fine here too. The only change is that there are now "star notes." On Vita, you'd need to flick the touchscreen to hit these, but on PS3 a simple flick of either analog stick works. As a huge fan of arcades and arcade controllers, I really prefer the feel of the new custom controllers, but as I implied earlier: if you're not as much of a fan of such things, not having one won't impact your ability to enjoy the gameplay.

Oh, did anyone else notice that in--oh, I don't know the name of the song!--Miku's phone now says "No mail." on PS3, as opposed to "You have not mail." on Vita?

Do you still want to sell the vita DLC code? I'd love to get it if possible :)

Send me a DM...does $5 sound like a fair price?

I think I'm used to the controller already. Got a Perfect on Weekender Girl Extreme, on the first try!
