Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

Thread already went up last night.

I'll still be posting import news to this thread whenever I get a chance (and I suppose I should try to post Arcade news as well since access to it in the US has expanded a little bit), but I would think discussion of the localized game should largely move over there, like it did for f/F.

So does the Japanese save import require you to have been playing the Japanese version on the same PSN account you plan to play the English version?

I am fairly sure that it is not really an "import", but really simply that the cross-save data works across the Japanese and western versions (as it should, no reason to break compatibility). So yes, unless I'm wrong you would definitely need the same account.

I suspected this all along when I noticed that the trophy set for the Japanese game got translated (meaning that it will use the same set of trophies).

So I remembered HATIIING Meiko when I first played the game in March. I didn't play her two songs for months. Literally up until now, they've remained unplayed on Hard. Decided this morning that I'd try them again. Who knows what may happen, right?

Nostalogic is actually... Pretty good. Catchy, and the voice is tuned really well. I could do without the camera being completely focused on her chest (seriously, those last scratch notes have a chest-loving camera), as it kind of feels.. Eehhh... but the song? Song is good and beat map is great as well!

Maybe Stay With Me is actually pretty good too, then?

NO, WRONG, ABORT

I see why I hated her. :X

You guys really don't have to wait for me to copy over all relevant information here!

Kaito and Meiko are getting Vocaloid 3.0 versions soon. Thankfully they will no longer sound super awful anymore.

KAITO V3 has been released for some time (and there's even a KAITO V3 song in F 2nd).

Have I ever mentioned how I really hate that DLC songs don't include their associated modules and they have to be purchased separately.

Played Project Diva Arcade for the first time today!

60fps makes a massive difference - Youtube videos do no justice for how much better this looks. Of course, now I'm failing on Hard all over again while learning the new button layout. (Oha-Yo-Del: not a joke song.)

For some reason they didn't have Project Diva IC cards, so my progress is now saved on a Tekken Tag Tournament 2 card.

Also, I kept receiving virtual cards for something called "Diva Production" with every credit. Anyone know what this is? And what is the "Noblesse Oblige" function?

Man I wish they would have an update or DLC to include songs from the first game :(
or maybe if you had one digital and other physical so that you can load it that way.

Yeah me too. I want to try F's songs with the sticks.

Yes, I like them StarCreator! >.>

It'd be nice. Though I swear some of the star strings in f are meant to just be scratched willy-nilly, so maybe the sticks don't need the strain. There's no rhythm to a good few. Or maybe I just don't notice it because its hard to keep rhythm with a swipe on a touch screen.

I'm curious, are any of the PSP entries still worth checking out or has F and F2 superseded them?

They have songs and modules that still aren't in the F games (hopefully if there's ever an F extend they'll put the rest back in). So they're not redundant, that said you still have to deal with PSP loading times and the abomination that is the UMD, so it's a toss-up.

Ah, if I bought one (leaning towards 2) it would be from PSN to play on the Vita (and possibly do the Dreamy Theater thing). So at least the UMD problem would be solved.

I actually much prefer swiping on the screen.
(when it works that is)
But in PDf2nd I still use touchscreen. Just easier for me to alternate quickly without having to use two thumbs.

That's how I felt about the last Star Note part of Freely Tomorrow!

The only way I got Perfect on that was to wildly scratch the touch screen.

No you don't, they're all available on digital. I bought 2nd that way (mostly just to import a save into Dreamy Theater, but still).

But to answer the parent question, if you played the F series first it's hard to go back to the original series, the lack of Technical Zone and F-style Chance Time feels like a huge downgrade in the gameplay (oh and the star notes, but that's a bit more subjective). Dreamy Theater is nice though, if you want to see what 60 FPS Project Diva is like. I personally don't like the Arcade assets though (their faces are weird and expressionless).

Ah, my bad. Didn't know they were available digitally.

Made my first venture into the series by starting Diva F yesterday. I’ve never had any real interest in the whole Vocaloid phenomenon (aside from Luka I guess) and only picked it up because of a lingering fondness for rhythm games.

That said, I’m pleasantly surprised by what I’ve played so far. A number of the songs appeal to me far more than I’d thought possible for Vocaloid music, and I’m impressed by the quality of some of the videos (Time Machine even got me a bit misty-eyed). Currently working my way through Normal until I get less terrible at the game, which may take a while.

Main issue so far has been the difficulty in seeing / focusing on some of the notes, particularly when the background's having a psychedelic moment. Also, and I know it’s a minor point, I really wish there was some kind of jingle on the song clear screen rather than the relative silence.

I've ordered F 2nd on the strength of what I've played so far, since I'm assuming it's more of the same.

I'm a big fan of DIVA arcade as well. Have cleared most of the Hard songs and am slowly dabbling in Extreme.

For some reason they didn't have Project Diva IC cards, so my progress is now saved on a Tekken Tag Tournament 2 card.

OK, so the IC card has a couple of functions, translated here but somewhat hard to understand since it doesn't refer to the original Japanese:

http://miku.sega.jp/arcade/en/card_regist_set.html

DIVA production is a card game that can be accessed through DIVAnet (https://project-diva-ac.net/divanet/), basically you take the cards you've earned while playing on the machine and you're able to either merge them or put them into different "performances". It basically boils down to another way to earn vocaloid points.

Another thing on DIVA.net that is pretty important are DIVA.net tickets which you earn once a day every time you play. Earning 4 of them gets you 50 VP, and since it's hard to earn VP at first when you're playing this game both the tickets and the DIVA production mini-game are pretty useful ways to start unlocking stuff quick. I'm in Japan, so I'm not sure how easy it is to register in the states though...

Everything is exactly the same as it is in Japan; the Round1 locations that have the game usually sell cards (either the dedicated Project DIVA cards or Banapasses). I was only able to play over a period of about a week when I was in LA for Anime Expo, but I was able to link my DIVA card to my Sega ID (which I had previously created for PSO2); since I had created my Sega ID already I am not sure if you need to pass a Japanese captcha to get to that point, which is probably the only part of registration Chrome translate can't get you through.

If you have time, it would help a lot if you can start translating the Project DIVA Arcade updates from Weekly Diva Station, since Round1 is poised to expand (currently with locations in the LA, Chicago, and Arlington, TX areas and with plans for Massachusetts and New York) and Project DIVA Arcade seems to be one of their staples. Updates are posted there often and I don't have enough understanding of the game to really comment on them.

Thanks for the information! Guess I should look into Sega ID creation.

Not only did the Chicago Round1 not have Project Diva cards, they didn't have e-Amusement cards for their IIDX machine, which you would think is the biggest draw among the Japanese machines.

(I also tried IIDX out for the first time. Got completely destroyed by anything above difficulty 2.)

We have some information about some Christmas DLC via today's Weekly Diva Station update.

All content releases on 12/25.

I still think they should have trolled us and released Kogane instead

I haven't been following the Japanese DLC releases. Has Moon been released yet? That's one of my favorites from the first PJD.

Did Moon make it in the poll results?

It did not.

Also, Disappearance is currently the highest-polling song that's not in, and it uses the same "moon" stage. If they had to choose between these two songs that use the exact same stage, I would bet on Disappearance.

On the other hand, now that I check the poll I notice that Duodecillion got in when it also didn't make the poll, and is so similar to End of Solitude.

I actually think it would be hilarious if Disappearance ends up getting in... using its original slideshow PV.

Remake it again! They could hold it back until the very end to build up the anticipation.

As for songs that didn't make the poll... Maybe this is the game where Promise comes back? It lets them add two more modules AND put as many Miku / Rin duets in one game as there ever have been.

For those that don't watch the Project DIVA F 2nd OT, I did a stream mostly demonstrating the DLC available in the Japanese version. I haven't played in a couple months and the run is full of silly mistakes, but if you want a sneak peak at some of the DLC that should be coming out here shortly, you can watch the recording here.

I would have liked to have done a stream of the new content coming out tonight, but I will be doing things with family. Can't completely rule out a stream of some sort, but it's not likely.

Been playing Diva F for nearly 2 weeks now. Finally perfected everything on Hard, will probably try and do the same for some of my favourites on Extreme. Am I just terrible at button mashing, or are you supposed to alternate d-pad and face buttons for some of the really rapid parts? It was the only way I could survive the end of Senbonzakura, but I'm not keen on learning to do it regularly.

Incidentally, as someone with virtually no Vocaloid music experience before playing this, favourite songs from Diva F are DYE, Odds & Ends, Tell Your World and Tokyo Teddy Bear.

Learning to alternate d-pad and face buttons is pretty mandatory if you want to do the rapid strings accurately.

Going to start up an F 2nd stream soon (basically as soon as I get my PS3 moved back to my streaming station as I had it set up elsewhere while family visited). Will be playing the two new DLC songs that came out two days ago blind. Would have been sooner if not for the PSN DDoS attacks, orz

Stream will be up at http://www.hitbox.tv/starcreator as usual. I do all challenges the game issues and will be watching stream chat in between songs.

EDIT: Stream is up!

EDIT2: Ended the stream a while ago, but for some reason the recording isn't showing up for me to post. I'll be a bit annoyed if it never shows up; it was an overall mediocre run but I did manage a Decorator perfect on a whim.
