Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

I recently got Mirai 2. The 3D in the rhythm game is really nice, as it separates the notes out on a plane that's at the front. It's a bit neat that touch and button game modes are different because it doubles the gameplay quantity, in a sense. Having two layers to the note stream is actually a cool mechanic (although it isn't fully used, probably for capping the difficulty on this game)... I wonder if the next Diva F would incorporate this, because double and slide star notes in F 2nd was a worthless addition.

Also, the nendoroid models are cute, especially in 3D. I'm really looking forward to Deluxe now, since it looks like it's building on top of this with better customization. Hope they still leave in the mini Puyo Puyo game in it!

Been playing Diva F for nearly 2 weeks now. Finally perfected everything on Hard, will probably try and do the same for some of my favourites on Extreme. Am I just terrible at button mashing, or are you supposed to alternate d-pad and face buttons for some of the really rapid parts? It was the only way I could survive the end of Senbonzakura, but I'm not keen on learning to do it regularly.

Incidentally, as someone with virtually no Vocaloid music experience before playing this, favourite songs from Diva F are DYE, Odds & Ends, Tell Your World and Tokyo Teddy Bear.

Wait what? You perfected all songs on Hard after only two weeks of playing the series for the first time??

Man some of you guys are really making me feel inadequate.

But I guess I have never been trying hard enough to do perfects. I just play one song then immediately switch to another without caring too much. I consider it a victory if I do an Excellent.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT I saw in another thread that you perfected Extreme Secret Police. I had already given up on even passing it, I just get murdered as soon as it gets fast.

To be fair, actually getting Perfects takes a good deal of practice (or excellent reflexes and accuracy) and nerves of steel, which not everybody has. When trying to get your first couple of Perfects in particular it can be very easy to lose your composure.

I've perfected about 5-6 songs on Normal and one on Hard, but almost all of those were all serious battles because I'm prone to losing my shit whenever it looks like it could be the run.

Following my previous post I decided to go back to F and do a couple of Hard perfects.

I pulled 9 of them in 3 hours, but I've rarely swore so much within the space of a few hours in my entire life.

Now I remember why I don't usually bother doing perfects lol. If I play any further I'm pretty sure I'll break my Vita, so I'll take a break for a while.

Especially the songs with star note streams, like Freely Tomorrow. Fuck those. Success is just random at this point.

With that said, F sure feels easymode after going back from F 2nd!

Been working on 'Break it Break it' for quite sometime but I keep choking. The number of 1-safe attempts I've had is infuriated. >=(

This is the last song I have left to perfect that's reasonably within my ability.. Anything that require a significant amount of dual wielding is beyond my skill range unfortunately.

At least I was able to clear every song on Extreme this time. I was never able to clear Sadistic Music Factor and a Negasopic back in F.

EDIT:

^Just happened a second ago. Not too big a deal since I already had the perfect for that song, but it basically sums up my overall experience with rhythm games in general. haha.

First bit: Yep, though as you've found out yourself, it's much more doable if you focus on a song rather than moving quickly onto the next one. I'm playing on PS3 so it might be different from Vita, but for difficult star note sections you can just go batshit crazy on the analogue sticks without losing the combo. You can't get anything worse than a Good for star notes providing you hit them, at least not on Diva F.

Edit bit: Hell no! That was just an image I took from YT as an example of something satisfying (the Japanese text is the giveaway). I've only tried to perfect one song on Extreme so far - DYE, which was about as difficult to do as a mid-upper tier Hard song. I'll try some of my other favourites along with starting Diva F 2nd at some stage, but I'm back at work now so my free time's pretty limited.

This is not true for F 2nd.

So just signed up for Spotify, any recommend Miku albums available there?

Most vocaloid song are indies. If you want to download several vocaloid song, i recommend making a piapro and nico2 account. The song creator usually provide the instrumental or the full song there. Most of them are free.

Hah. Still, that's very impressive skills in such short time. And a fuckload of patience and nerves, I assume.

And yeah as StarCreator already said they "fixed" the star note abuse in F 2nd, and also added a bunch of nonsense (ie. joined notes), as if they weren't annoying already. The difficulty bump is also significant, Normal F 2nd is almost as difficult as Hard F.

Really? Last time I checked they were mostly bad covers and Just Be Friends.

Depend on the creator really. I download several Jin, Keeno, and Niki (mostly the off vocal version) song from there. For several creator, they have their own site to host their song, so might want to check their comment on the video.

Looks like fun, might have to grab this. Is there any reason I wouldn't enjoy it just as much as Diva f/f 2nd?

Track selection, difference in buttons for legit reasons.
Visuals and difficulty for subjective reasons.

If the first two check out then you would probably enjoy it.
Just guessing here, never played it

After FIFTY TWO tries over the timespan of SIX MONTHS, I got a Perfect on Odds and Ends Extreme! It's not even the hardest song I've got a perfect on, but I always tripped up somewhere. Single Safe is real. You have no idea how much joy I felt over such a small victory haha!

So, I'm on the verge of ordering a copy of Project DIVA 2nd for the PSP (for free thanks to some saved up store credit)...but I keep seeing people mention that Extend is basically an improved version of it. Just how different or alike are they? Is there a significant difference in the song list? Is it worth owning both? I only have enough credit to get 2nd for free, Extend would cost me a bit extra.

I don't own any Project DIVA games yet, but I've played all of the demos out there for PSP and PS3 quite a bit, and I loved them.

This would be my first full Project DIVA game...but not my first rhythm game, though. I have a quite a few others. Both Parappa the Rapper games, Um Jammer Lammy, both Space Channel 5 games, Dance Dance Revolution, Amplitude, Guitar Hero II/III/World Tour/5/Metallica and the two DS games, Rock Band 1/2/3/Blitz/Unplugged/Lego/Beatles/Green Day, and Elite Beat Agents. I love all of them.

Extend is exactly what it sounds: an extension of the second game: the song list is pretty different (2nd, extend) and imo it's worth owning both. However, if you're wishing to only get one game for now, get 2nd first and then track Extend later.

So, Extend is like...sort of an expansion pack with some fixes, basically?

Anyway, thanks for the info! I just placed my order. The estimate says that I should have it here by Thursday. Can't wait! :)

There are heaps of vocaloid songs on Spotify, but there aren't a lot of the most well known ones, like ones from the concerts and games.

You can definitely search for the name of the vocaloid, but a lot of the time it doesn't say their name anywhere. You just have artist names and song names. So it's generally a better idea to search for artists and go from there.

Here's a bunch of composers/artists to get you started. Just follow the "similar to this" suggestions and you'll find loads and loads.

This arrived way earlier than expected!

It was weird getting mail on a Sunday. Haha. But, yeah, it only took two days to get here, even though I only paid for the standard shipping. I was thinking about paying extra for two day shipping, but now I'm glad that I didn't!

Anyway, the game came with a code for something inside of the case. According to a quick search, it's for Extend modules. No clue if the code works, though, as I bought a used copy. I guess I'll check later.

That was fast alright. Hopefully the codes work! Oh, and needless to say, enjoy the game!

Also, good thing it was 2nd# the version you. It fixes some bugs and the like, supposedly

The code didn't work. Oh, well. Not a big deal. They're just costumes. I came for the gameplay, which I'm having a lot of fun with so far, even if it's been kicking my ass quite thoroughly. Hah.

What differences are in the 2nd# version? I tried looking up info after I noticed it on the case, but I didn't really find anything besides that it fixed bugs...though it didn't mention what bugs.. I also saw someone mention something about the gameplay being more like Extend's, but I have no idea if that's true.

The code will only work on a JP PSN account, though it is possible the code has expired by now if it has not been used.

Pretty sure the only differences are in the way it loads DLC.

Yeah, I know it only works with a Japanese account. It is a Japanese game, after all. Hah. I've had three PSN accounts (Japan, Europe, America) since at least late 2008.

It's a used copy, so it's not surprising that the code was used. Heh.

Oh, yeah, I read something about the DLC. I think it needs to be "imported" into the game through the options menu...or something.

Best module/costume right here:

And this totally has nothing to do with my love for the Space Channel 5 games and Ulala. Nope. Not at all!

They should really add it to the F/f games. That's probably the only thing that would make me pay for an extra costume in a game.

Is there a reason why the Magnet modules are shown in the screenshots but aren't in the list of modules?

The 10% PSN coupon code this weekend would get you Costume Club for $63. Still quite a lot, though.

Wait, a song from Arcade??

I was just thinking today that it would be impossible for them to have a DLC Kaito song because every Kaito song in the console games is already in F or F 2nd. So... porting from Arcade was clearly the only option.

This opens up a whole pool of possibilities... but going by the numbers Sega provided there are maybe 2-3 DLC songs left.
