Because that wouldn't generate nearly as much discussion. And with an unknown IP, any path to brand awareness seems to be acceptable, even if it involves dicking your own future customers around. It's really quite obnoxious.

Really?

It's not like they're vaccuming money out of your pockets.

The only people who would get "dicked around" by this, my goodhearted buffoonery aside, have way too much invested in the system wars.

You gotta admit, that ps3 side bar works pretty damn well with just about every single game. Nice cover.

If only they didn't put that red box on the side of the case. /nitpick

I don't think you have to be invested in any system war to be annoyed by ambivalence surrounding release dates, and which versions will be released when, or at all. If I owned only a 360 and I had been over the past year told by the project lead himself that all versions were looking good and were developed in parallel, I'd be miffed if it was suddenly hinted at, or not, that the version headed for the system I owned may or may not have been delayed, scrapped or probably coming out at the same time as another version (or not), only the whole release schedule thing is being fudged by Ubisoft. If my writing here seems somewhat cryptic and even erratic, please be advised that it's purely deliberate in an attempt to mirror Ubi's handling of this.

Nice boxart though.

ubi shot themselves in the foot with the 360/pc date when they released the schedule. Everyone was expecting this game to hit 360/PC late late late this year or first thing 08, so the release date mix up (if it is, who the hell knows) got hopes up, then down again. Just on the whole not a proper way to handle these things.

Am I the only one who gets a very Halo-like vibe from this game in terms of how he has a helmet and stuff?
Halobox.jpg

The helicopters shooting as well, team-mates in the background, and seemingly a Sci-fi game (although im not 100% sure of that) but yeh... seems very Halo like, hope its not a copy-cat sort of game but im extremely hyped for the hopefully :)/) eventual 360 release.

If im talking rubbish though, just ignore me:)

Rubbish this acrid is hard to ignore, but thanks anyway. Helicopters, helmets and team mates, that's the basis for the comparison here? The covers may share some familiar themes, but then those themes are familiar for a reason. The games themselves appear to be quite different.

Posted by deded @ the official forum (don't bother visiting, it's gotten real dumb as of late). IGN has much larger versions of these images on its site.

The gun on his arm is according to Derek Littlewood an "arm-mounted personal rocket launcher, folks, complete with shotgun-style flip barrel for reload action"

Dude with a shotgun

And presumably your token sniper

Not too fond of the character design here though; I didn't mind the standard soldier look, but these look too, I don't know, angular? Seems like a heavy handed design. The arm-mounted rocket launcher sounds ace though.

I know what you mean, but I'm getting a real Timesplitters (and indeed Second Sight)vibe from these designs, which I like, seemingly staying with Free Radical's trademarl art style despite the 'realism' angle of the game.

Could someone please clarify just what the position is with this game's exclusivity on the PS3? We know that the PC and 360 version of the game are virtually finished and sitting on a shelf somewhere. But do we know how long the PS3 version is exclusive for, when is it coming out, etc ?

They seem really ****ing weird. I mean, what type of field of vision could the heavy troopers have with helmets like that?
some ppl are just too hung on being 'realistic/believable' it doesnt have to be believable if its fantasy...

I like the standard heavy trooper a lot, and the sniper isn't too bad. I do wonder about the field of view thing though, and its strange because the normal troopers have such large visors. I guess you could just imagine that they have their views displayed on screens inside of their helmets. The sniper should have a helmet with a large visor though.

If the game wants to take itself seriously it should probably have believable designs, not that I have too much of a problem with these.

That cruciform, Templar style helmet is the coolest thing I have seen today. Bulky goddamned legs, too - almost as wellingtoned as the Army of Two guys.

I don't have a problem with stylized characters and a certain level of fantasy engineering, but this crosses some line. There's the field of vision issue, and I just think the designs are real heavy handed. Far from the slick look that Free Radical does so well. I'll live, it's just a bit disappointing.

yeah it was weird how for the most part they showed sixaxis and then later blurred a black controller. shockaxis prototype? :p

around 11:25 it is not blurred for like half a second (right before video switches scenes). looked like a ps3 controller from what i could tell.

huh they said its exclusively for PS3? Was it changed again or are they trying to lie at us?^^

He worded it well. Still timed exclusive.

Still not quite sure why there isn't enough buzz about this game...

The E3 trailer killed whatever Haze high I was flying on at the time. Should be a good game, but they really need to work on the trailers.

so speaking of that. I finally got around to watching that last night. This was one of the games not really on my radar, but I've heard lots of talk so i wanted to start checking it out. The trailer left me a little meh (I got confused who the main character was for a part of the trailer lol), but its still made me want to find out more about the game, if only to find out what the hell it was about. So in that way it works. I've been checking out alot of other media on its and my hype is rising, if only because it started a little low.

Yeah that E3 trailer really killed the mood :( cheezy as hell

That E3 Trailer was cropped from old stuff. When I first watched the viral video or whatever live action teaser they were showing off I thought it was cheesy and silly as well. Then gameplay footage was shown and I was sold. That's what they need to do with Haze...
and any game for that matter

I hope they might boost back on GC on end of this month.

So what part is cheesy? Live-action or game footage?

If live-action then you shouldn't judge it since it's not main thing on the game.

if they can nail the core gameplay feeling (bullet spread, recoil, etc), this title could potentially be great.

Uh, the E3 trailer was the whole thing, wasn't it? Showed multiplayer from the Promise Hand angle, vehicle combat and such. It was a very poorly put together trailer. I've been pimping this game like mad for some time, but that trailer was a bucket of ice mixed with rotten garbage. The game should be awesome though, assuming they can deliver on all that big talk.

And for the record, I wouldn't make a big deal out of the usage of live action footage if I hadn't read some posts made by Derek Littlewood where he panned Black for using live action footage during cutscenes. I understand that FRD is not in charge of the marketing of Haze, but that's still damned funny.

The game actually looks pretty good in that dev diary. I think it will end up being a solid 8 shooter and quite a pleasant surprise (at least i hope). The trailer was just so poorly conceived, though. Sadly.

I don't even understand why they had to use a trailer. The gameplay looks plenty good enough to warrant a demonstration, so why not do just that?

I know. It's the embodiment of "CAN'T SEE SHIT, CAP'N."

I hope they at least change the gun sounds.

Awful character design.

the trailers really don't do any good for the game. They're so bad I avoid watching them. Why can't they just use the game engine for cut scenes or actual gameplay!? These trailers are just horrible!
