And yes, before someone asks, I AM STILL WORKING ON WINDS OF WINTER and will continue working on it until it's done
Stannis would have been shit at governing. Say what you want about Renly, it was pretty clear that out of the three brothers he would have been able to govern the best.
Stannis would have pissed a bunch of people off. He isn't reasonable or likable.Nah. Stannis actually knows how to govern. He just didn't have charisma but neither does Tywin so....
Renly had charisma but he's never really proven himself to be good at governing.
As Donal Noye said, Renly is like copper. Pretty to look at but not really worth anything in the end.
Stannis would have pissed a bunch of people off. He isn't reasonable or likable.
Renly would have been the best king with the right advisors... I think. We really don't know enough about Renly tbh.
...you see, I think this is where the books and show diverge. I think Martin was trying to make a point about sexism in religion and the double standards. Just like actual gay monarchs in history who everyone turned a blind eye towards. I think Renly would have been safe.Renly's gay, he would have had a lot of problems dealing with the church. Especially in the long run.
We're not doing Dunk & Egg. Eventually, sure, I'd love that, and so would many of you
But I've only written and published three novellas to date, and there are at least seven or eight or ten more I want to write.

Also dont think the church would have gained as much power in a Baratheon/Tyrell ruled world.

We're not doing Robert's Rebellion either. I know thousands of you want that, I know there's a petition... but by the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert's Rebellion.
Just put more money into Westworld.
GoT is done.
So is the show HBO isn't going forward with a Wild Cards show? If so that sucks, wild cards is awesome and ripe with stories for tv.
I'm glad they're not doing that cus we really don't need another superhero show.
Will WoW ever release?
Not really a superhero show instead a cool sci-fi show in an interesting world?
Hmm...I don't know if the propaganda worked that much against Cersei and Joffrey. The books really emphasize how much the people love Renly, but I'm not really sure why they do.If Renly secured the throne and had no opposition, I absolutely agree. But as long as the realm is not united, I would disagree. With a fractured realm, it means different factions will always be out to spread dissent. With Cersei it was the rumors of adultery and incest. With Renly it would have been his homosexuality. Religion is a means to an end, and a powerful weapon when you want to accuse your enemy on moral grounds.
If only Dune existed.
Sucks that we're only getting prequels. I wanted a sci-fi game of thrones that takes place 1000 years in the future!
Hey guys! Just wanted to give a small update! Yes, I'm working on five fucking prequel shows for Game of Thrones, about 6 or so novellas, a big pile of Wild Cards shit that nobody cares about, overseeing a translation of ASOIAF to hexadecimal, and in 50 years, we'll be doing a Dunk & Egg adaptation probably! Oh, and if there were more hours in the day, I guess I would spend one of them typing another 14 words of Winds of Winter.
Stannis would have pissed a bunch of people off. He isn't reasonable or likable.

The bold little boy with wild black hair and laughing eyes was a man grown now, one-and-twenty, and still he played his games. "Look at me, I'm a king," Cressen thought sadly. Oh, Renly, Renly, dear sweet child, do you know what you are doing? And would you care if you did? -Cressen aka one of the maesters who raised him
What has Renly ever done to earn a throne? He sits in council and jests with Littlefinger, and at tourneys he dons his splendid suit of armor and allows himself to be knocked off his horse by a better man. That is the sum of my brother Renly, who thinks he ought to be king.-Stannis
The youngest of Lord Steffon's three sons had grown into a man bold but heedless, who acted from impulse rather than calculation. In that, as in so much else, Renly was like his brother Robert, and utterly unlike Stannis. -Cressen
He knew how to dress and he knew how to smile and he knew how to bathe, and somehow he got the notion that this made him fit to be king. -Olenna Tyrell
Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He'll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he's copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day.-Donal Noye(the ex-smith of Storm's End who made weapons for Robert, Stannis and Renly)
If they gave out an emmy for procrastination, GRRM would be the sole winner for over a decade now.
Sucks that we're only getting prequels. I wanted a sci-fi game of thrones that takes place 1000 years in the future!
GRRM seems to be an easily deluded individual. I remember when he thought the show would dedicate multiple seasons to AFFC and ADWD in order to avoid it catching up to him, lul.

Real talk though, I enjoyed Spider-Man 3 more than Spider-Man 2 but I know Spider-Man 2 is the better movie.
Same would apply here.
One's a layered fantasy book series and the other is popcorn television. You could enjoy the show more than the books and that's valid.
But when it comes to the competing the quality of writing, it's not even a contest. The books win.
It's like comparing The Shining to Goosebumps.
Cute, he still thinks he will finish writing A Song of Ice & Fire. We're not doing Robert's Rebellion either. I know thousands of you want that, I know there's a petition... but by the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert's Rebellion.
This guy. I also can't help but notice that he doesn't even mention A Dream of Spring.WINDS OF WINTER, five successor shows, FIRE AND BLOOD (that's the GRRMarillion, remember?), four new Wild Cards books, some things I can't tell you about yet... it's a good thing I love my work.
People who say they didn't want Better Call Saul are now eating crow.
I'm down.
Agree I mean it sucks for book readers but as a show person who turned into books . I'm glad I didn't start books cause I would be so insanely frustrated . I'm just happy I'll get a conclusion . Yeah d and d aren't as good as him but at least I get some semblance of an ending .It's pretty clear that there will be no end to the books. Thus, i'm fine with him approving and giving knowledge to others so we can have more official material from the universe he created.
Most people don't read the books. His reason for not doing roberts rebellion doesnt make any sense to me. The show is based on a book for christ's sake. We knew in advance what happened on the show for a long time.
Unless they put all of that in the next 2 seasons, which I doubt, I dont see how that should keep them from doing a fleshed out roberts rebellion mini series.
I don't get the point of actively working on a Silmarillion until the books are done. Same with Dunk & Egg. Ideally you finish a story before you dedicate yourself to prequels. We're not talking about just one or two additional books. George himself even argues against making shows where we know the outcome. Shouldn't that apply to his books too? I mean, he can write whatever he wants, obviously, but he's not being consistent and he seems lacking in priorities.
and we've spent days together discussing their ideas, the history of Westeros and the world beyond, and sundry details found only in The World of Ice & Fire and The Lands of Ice & Fire... when we weren't drinking margaritas and eating chile rellenos and visiting Meow Wolf.
I'm literally about to google wild cards wtf lolHe's also working on four new books in his Wild Cards series. This guy not only has no sense of priorities, but doesn't even seem to know what his fanbase wants. Nobody cares about those Wild Cards books, just stop it.
Also, his blog gives this fascinating insight in his work process which honestly says it all:
Fucking seriously, god damn. The man needs to focus. Stop staying yes to all that random bullshit!Hey guys! Just wanted to give a small update! I just hope they can finish the series before the juju that took the show from its worst slump to its highest high runs out.Oh come on. At this point the only person who can delude themselves that ASoIaF novels will be finished is Martin himself. Just be happy we'll see ending thanks to HBO.
We dont know enough about Loras and Margaery in the books, but they pretty much follow Olena, no? Everyone hates Melisandre, can you imagine what fuckery she'd start in Kings Landing? Stannis would make enemies of everyone including Littlefinger and Varys.Anyone would be good with the right advisors provided they listen. Stannis had Davos and Melisandre. Renly had Loras????
Stannis is a fusion of Oliver Cromwell, Tiberius Caesar and Henry Tudor (who were all pretty successful rulers albeit tough, miserly and filled with rebellions). So he has all the right ingredients to be a decent ruler. Not a beloved king but someone who can strengthen the kingdom and likely transition Westeros to an absolute monarchy.
On the other side, any big characters who know Renly but aren't in love with him are disparaging of him:
This is all sounds like a guy who doesn't know what he's doing but wants to be king to stroke his ego. So essentially Trump but likeable
