HDD advice

Just bought a new HDD to go in my PC as #2. Current one is an IDE drive, and the one I bought is SATA. (yes I checked the motherboard has SATA connectors)

Now, is there any rule as to how it should be connected up? eg assuming the IDE HDD is channel 1 master, should the SATA be channel 2, or slave?

I've done this before with IDE, but I'm new to SATA.

Also, what should I do with the windows swap file for best performance? I'm going to uninstall all my apps and reinstall to the new HDD, same with my documents. That way the primary HDD only has a windows install, so small and easy to ghost. But should I move the swap file to the new HDD? will it perform best away from the windows OS, or away from the applications it will be running?

no rule as to how to connect them. god I love SATA.

the only thing you have to make sure is that if you have a SATA300 (also called SATA-II) drive AND controller, you might have to go into the drive with a drive diag program to turn on 3Gbps. I had to with my Hitachi T7K250 as it shipped by default at 1.5Gbps. All nForce4 Ultra boards should have SATA300 (SATA-II). get the program to do this from the drive manufacturer's website.
