Probably just some preset mode that "supposedly" gives you the best contrast, color, etc... for gaming.

Just make sure you do the settings right and don't use these "modes" they're crap really.

Possibly just some sort of video settings preset, like movie mode, sports mode, etc. where each has a different set of brightness/contrast/sharpness/etc. settings meant to work better with different types of media.

In other words, it's bullshit.

supposedly in some cases it speeds up / decreases the quality of upconversion from 480i/p content to your LCD set's native resolution. This reduces the "lag" that a lot of people complain about with DLP and even some LCD sets.

I don't know if that's what it's for on this set, though.

This is the correct answer

On my set, Game Mode disables the internal line doubler, so you can use a light gun.
If your set is RPTV, it is probably doing the same thing. You should be able to see the scan lines when Game Mode is selected.

It just means that it will crank the contrast and brightness one point below the mark where your pupils get scorched and your eyes bleed.

Have you ever tried the "sports" mode on one of these sets. The brightness and contrast are cranked up just shy of 100%. NO Thanks.

Speaking of correct adjustment of brightness, contrast, etc, Halo 2 really pisses me off with how dark some of the levels are when settings are "correct" I feel like I'm at a competitive disadvantage in the Warlock Remake, in particular since I set my video mode settings correctly via a DVD kit and you can't see a damn thing in the shadows on that level. I have a feeling that a distinct advantage is gained by cranking up white level and brightness.

We're talking about HDTVs, not the $99 special at K-Mart.

wtf is up with you guys and this contrast/brightness thing. This is the right answer. Never tried it but I'm certain it will work somewhat. How well is what really matters.

Because on most TVs that's what it does. My mom has a 13" TV/VCR combo that has a game mode that makes it look like you're playing on the sun. Some people didn't bother to read the topic, however.
