Yeah I just saw a 30" Lcd WS Hdtv for 799. at fry's. I was sooooooo tempted but I bought a 30" Wega just last year so I forced myself home empty handed.

I always wondered why are HDTVs called "digital"? If it's a CRT using component video cables I don't see what's so digital about it compared to SDTVs... anyone care to enlighten me? If it's an LCD with a digital signal connecter (DVI?) then I can see where the "digital" naming might come from, but some people call any and all HDTVs digital.

I suppose SDTV's are considered "analog"

I am well aware that many people call SDTVs "analog" and HDTVs "digital", and that's exactly where my beef is, I don't see the reasoning behind it. Both can be digital and analog as far as I know... I could be wrong, and if so I'd like to know why :)

It's a great thing that the HDTV's have dropped. My first thing I'm buying with my new salary (got a new job at a newspaper.. YAY me!), is a 52 inch HDTV that will replace my old, shitty 27 inch TV.

I think it has more to do with the the fact that HDTV signals are broadcast digitally.

question...

What's after HDTV? 10 years from now, will we be upgrading to higher than 1080p?
I heard somewhere that they where working on something higher but it would require another infrastructure overhaul. We will probably have HDtv for twenty to thirty years.
